The majority of people reading this will react in the same way, that SOB needs killing. There is no way to begin to know the pain and fear this girl must have encountered. If she lives, it will more than likely take a lifetime to recover from her mental and physical injuries, if ever. Her parents and love ones must endure suffering beyond belief that will also last their entire lives.

My first question is who is Michael Tuano Hermogenes? The majority of times after reading these horror stories we learn that the perpetrator is mentally damaged. And usually people are aware of their condition and in many cases the parents caused the mental condition with abuse. If we checked his school records and past history we will probably discover society is at fault for not protecting this person as a child. To my knowledge parents are never held responsible nor are the official that should have intervened and stopped the child abuse. It is easy to simply hate and demand his death however, I demand the truth that lead up to and cause this person to commit such a heinous crime on another human being. If discovered that others cause his mental condition I personally would expect his confinement in a mental institution and other placed on trial.

Robert Champagne: I read your comment and appreciate your input. Although I do not agree with you whole heartedly I also have an opinion about this situation.

I do not think that society or his "family" were the cause or rhyme and reason behind his blatant and heinous actions. If the man took pictures with her, provided a minor with alcohol and all the other issues brought to life I do hold him accountable.

However if he was a victim as a child or any time during his life and subjected to extreme torture or abuse by his parents, his family members, a sexual ingrate that is not a reason to go out and try and take someone else's life and physically and mentally damaging her for the rest of her natural life. Eighty percent of her body is an incredible amount of damage to her skin and other features. She must not only live with the damage caused by Hermongenes but also fight to survive and have some sort of life.

I believe that anyone who causes harm to another person to this degree should face life in prison or be executed. It is so sad that a lot of money will be spent to give him a fair trial and guarantee he gets his rights under the Constitution but who will guarantee this girls right to life and a peaceful existence.

The whole thing makes me sick!

there is much truth to what you have written............Much truth!!

Parents are very often to blame as much as maybe not.
If you can recall the Sharon Tate murder case then one
wonders how all those who followed Charles Manson as
they did. Did all those young girls come from bad homes/
Many came from well to do families & all on their own
ended up following a nut case doing as he instructed.

Then what scenario or person(s) led this man to do what
he did to this child?
There are millions of these people walking, talking & running
all over the place. We all see & talk to them all the time. And,
we walk away thinking they are just a tad off center & that is
as far as it goes. Who is to predict who will do as Manson
instructed & those who followed him? Who could have predicted
this man would do what he did to this child/

The likelihood is many probably could have & possibly prevented
what happened. But, the law requires they do something first
before being hauled off to keep other people safe from them.

The kicker to all this is......Most of these people are very
bright/intelligent!!! But that is another whole category.

Execute him or lock him up for life.

A CHILD WHO WAS BURNED ALIVE TO HIDE EVIDENCE ONLY STATES TO ME THAT HE VERY WELL KNOWS WHAT HE DID !!! THEREFORE IF YOU KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG ,GOOD FROM BAD,MIND LAPSE DOESN'T PLAY A PART IN THE EQUATION..BECAUSE WHEN HE CONTACTED THIS GIRL TO MEET HIM ,BOUGHT LIQUOR TO HER HOME HE HAD ONLY ONE THING ON HIS HORNY MIND !!!! Before he's executed, put him in a 'hose down' cell for a year and feed him Viagra every day. Let him deal with the results of constant stimulation and the knowledge that there's absolutely no hope of EVER being able to force himself on anyone.... I've stopped feeling sorry for Freaks. I'm for finding ways to cut down on their victims. I bet if Freaks KNEW their acts would come back on them, they'd be able to control themselves a lot better!. Freaks don't like to suffer; they enjoy making others suffer. Nothing else has worked; let's try the 'gotcha; your turn' approach and see what effect it has on the general population of Freaks. I don't really care WHY they are Freaks Not much can be done about that. Mental disease, alcoholism, dope addiction, and downright meanness and violence tends to run in families. My interest is in a way to reduce their victims by 'encouraging' them to choose a different path.

A Horror Story! Evil in its purest form. and yet there are those who make excuses for what hes done. NO..no justification, no blame the parents! This was His crime! he knew exactly what he was doing, And given the chance he would do it again and again. To say that he did this because of a mental condition or because of his parents is a flat insult to this little girl and the people who love her. Im sorry to say that Evil does walk this earth, and it does not look like the devil of our imaginations.....IT LOOKS LIKE US!!!..Think about that.
I will keep this child and her loved ones in heart and in my Prayers.

OMG! This is one of those rare times that the death penalty is well deserved. Usually I'm against it but this is beyond horrendous. That poor girl would be better of dying than having to live everyday with the memories and with 80% burns.

For the rest of her life she will face workplace discrimination because of how she looks, she will be stared at, pointed at, judged, spoken to like she is lesser than and/or stupid... We may like to believe this wont happen but sadly it will.

I don't know how so many of you can judge a person without knowing his history etc.
And these cries for killing "him". To me it sounds so inhuman.

This side should be more positive and talking about what we can do about these terrible crimes as a society.
Nobody asks really WHY these crimes are happening and that something must be going totally wrong that crimes are in a rise.

Or we should ask HOW we can help the victim. This would be another approach.

Crime does never come from nowhere!! We should give more energy to finding out what conditions encourage people to lose a normal ethic behavior.
It is not about finding accuses for criminals .... but to study what does bring them on a path to crime.

Just look to films, video, games, war toys etc. how much aggression we allow to take place on a daily base and we look at it as it would be normal to kill somebody (it is just a film) .... and naively we don't think about the effect it has on children and teenagers. Why is it allowed to show killing in a film????

Of course this scum bag decided he would use 'memory lapse' BEFORE he did the crime, in case he got caught. There is no cure for these people, but most often, they will get out of prison well before many who have committed non-violent crimes. In these cases, it is usually 'What a CROCK of justice.'
