The horrific case at a North Melbourne animal hospital has prompted a warning about the dangers of people "forcing ideologies" on their pets.

What they were feeding the poor kitten also sounds unfit and incomplete for a HUMAN vegan. If they want to feed vegan, get a rabbit....but still don't feed the rabbit what this poor kitty had to endure eating. Actually they should be banned from having pets for life. With the internet available for research and animals experts to consult, there is simply no excuse.

I am glad this has come up. People need to be educated before they become pet owners. Thanks Roseann!

Totally horrible+obviously a close call. I'm a Vegan+would love nothing more than turn my fur balls into fluffy vegans too but it can't be. Cats+dogs are carnivores+it's beyond selfish-stupid+cruel to force a Vegan diet on our pets. I hate handling meat but every week i go to a free range butcher to get them meat to mix with their kibble. Glad the poor kitty is alright. Thanks

i was going to say what Natasha has said, we simply can't change the physiological/biological make up of animals, we are omnivores they are carnivores!
Here's something else to consider from the article;
“Carnivores will seek out meat and your cat is possibly more likely to go hunting and kill local native fauna if you deprive it of meat.”

Thank you for posting Roseanne

Cat's? That is just cruel. Under the diabetic classification these would fall under the starches (breads, grains, corn, and other starches) as opposed to the vegetables.
