"Anyone who hopes Barack Obama has a "real" progressive agenda should think again."

I have to say again that he is a president with limited powers, not a King with absolute power. I don't know what is in head or what he will or will not fight for, but I have decided to support his agenda, in gay rights, ending DOMA, using a plan to rebuild American infrastructure, structured and functional gun laws and I do hope we see some efforts to clean up that ACA bill. End this long cycle of wars of adventure. To work toward a positive and result tested control of climate change and of course fair immigration laws.

DOMA is probably one of the most confusing to me - why does the federal government and not the private individuals make their own decisions about marriage? That really is outrageous step into personal privacy. If Rome was not built in a day, why should we expect Obama or any one to steer the progressive agenda in a few short years. These changes will take many years, and those who want to see changes need to be involved to give our support to making them a reality.

The real question is why should we expect a war-mongering toxic capitalist with a history of policies that make him look more and more like a moderate Republican to do anything progressive at all? This right of center President caters to big business and capitulates to right-wing extremism. He can't bend over backwards quickly enough to placate rabid Republicans. One wonders if he has any spine at all. But we need not wonder if this man is a friend of the left or of social progress...because clearly he isn't.
