It is my considered opinion that the current generation (Millennials) that are fighting and dying were taught by their Boomer and GenX teachers that they should not fight because they shouldn't need to. The wars in the last 12 years have broken that mindset and they feel guilt,.

Irrespective of the lack of moral or political merit of the last 30 years of US acts of aggression around the world, the chief problem for combat soldiers appears to be "stop-loss" policies that force them to see far too many tours of duty in combat. Perhaps the US should consider diplomatic strategies that don't entail bombs from the air and boots on the ground.
