There is absolutely no chance that asteroid 2012 DA14 will hit Earth when it makes its closest approach on Friday (Feb. 15), but many other asteroids like it have made a crash landing on the planet in the past.

Nothing we can do about it other than experience each day as a gift.

We know they have hit earth before. with this one we are lucky again that it will pass us by. One day we will not be so lucky. Each day is a gift to be enjoyed.

Dear Asteroid 2012 DA14, Earth is on vacation from asteroids. Thanking you for your co-operation.

Well, Natasha, an asteroid eliminating huge swaths of world populations wouldn't be such a bad thing from a certain point of view. Since that's not going to happen, why not just let loose with Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD)? It would be much more precise, too.

Very interesting. We're very lucky that we haven't been hit by more asteroids and such. Shared.

Russia’s Urals region has been rocked by a meteorite explosion in the stratosphere. The impact wave damaged several buildings, and blew out thousands of windows amid frigid winter weather. Hundreds are seeking medical attention for minor injuries.
