What Would Happen If Asteroid 2012 DA14 Hit Earth?

There is absolutely no chance that asteroid 2012 DA14 will hit Earth when it makes its closest approach on Friday (Feb. 15), but many other asteroids like it have made a crash landing on the planet in the past.

We know they have hit earth before. with this one we are lucky again that it will pass us by. One day we will not be so lucky. Each day is a gift to be enjoyed.

Well, Natasha, an asteroid eliminating huge swaths of world populations wouldn't be such a bad thing from a certain point of view. Since that's not going to happen, why not just let loose with Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD)? It would be much more precise, too.

Russia’s Urals region has been rocked by a meteorite explosion in the stratosphere. The impact wave damaged several buildings, and blew out thousands of windows amid frigid winter weather. Hundreds are seeking medical attention for minor injuries.
