all I needed to see was the supposed "victim" was a JRT..sorry if you own one or take offense at this, but having been around all kinds of dogs all my life, i'm pretty confident these two were not the the ones who's mouths were writing checks their ass's couldn't cash.
This sounds more like a people problem, and these guys are the pawns... :-( signed!

Signed...........no offence taken Ellen :)

I know what you mean ,about ,jacks....i have a clumber spaniel and a jack, she can be very naughty at times, and very vocal!

I do wonder,as there were no bites on the jack, could the jack, have been hurt elsewhere(home)!?,and, tried to escape by,going through next doors garden!? ..makes me wonder, seeing that, the dog had lesions,no bites.

"Another day is required to complete a court hearing for a Black Creek couple who are involved in a legal battle with the Comox Valley Regional District over and application to destroy their dogs.
Edith and Jacques Manseau's two Newfoundland dogs are being held at the Comox Valley SPCA following seizure spurred from neighbourhood complaints earlier this year.
Tuesday, both Edith and Jacques took the stand and were questioned by the CVRD's lawyer Troy DeSouza and the Manseau's lawyer Eric Chesterley.
The couple both stated separately they have never observed aggressive behaviour by either of their dogs, Champ and Chum.
Derald Lewis, bylaw compliance manager for the CVRD, told the Record the seizure was spurred following a complaint of a vicious dog attack by the Newfoundland dogs to a neighbouring Jack Russell terrier.
The case was sent to the judicial case manager to fix a date to hear testimony and closing statements.

daily increases my disgust hand in hand with dogs unjustly sentenced to death.

Thank you Buffy for the heads up on this!!! This sort of rampant jump to the wrong conclusion about dogs has GOT TO BE STOPPED!!! Newfoundlands are not a vicious breed. They are very large and to someone afraid of dogs the size could be scary. But these are not vicious dogs!!! Humans have proven themselves once again to be truly biased and STUPID! Stop taking your stupidity and wrath out on innocent dogs and turn your wrath instead to seeing that animal abusers are brought to justice! Your time would be better served.

If you don't like dogs, then mind your business and stay away from them. But to find reasons to hurt them or get rid of them is EVIL! You are the same type of people, if given the opportunity, who would love to kill the dogs yourself. I should feel sorry for you, because you are obviously mentally ill! But I don't feel sorry for you, because you are just mean-hearted and nasty, and hate not just the dogs, but everyone. People like you should be the ones getting "put down."

S&N and AGAIN disgusted with the ignorance and stupidity of moronic humans.

Im with Leslene, touch my dog and its the last thing you'll do..Ive got one of those signs "Never mind the dog-Beware of owner"....and you best heed it..

..My boy is a big goofball who RUNS from a neighborhood shitzu who chases him DAILY ..Now if HE were to stick up for himself, WHO do you think would be taken away? Him because hes a "BIG BAD ROTTIE"...give me a damn break!

Now I want to share something funny about my sweet a gentle giant. We all need a smile and a lol, cuz stories like this make me SO DAMN ANGRY I cant stand it sometimes. ok:

Im fostering a momma kitty and her one baby and she had my boy so scared it was almost funny if it wasnt pitiful! I would bring him the baby to sniff, and he would sniff it REALLY quick, turn his head and try to sneak off with out momma noticing..lol so cute...At first he wouldnt even sniff, hes just turn his head aside, like PLEASE dont bring it here, she'll KNOW!..now shes ok with letting him lick the baby, which is hilarious, as hes got a VERY long tongue and the babies head kind of flings back..LMAO.(Thats the only way to explain it, as of course the baby isnt hurt, he actually enjoys it..lol as he keeps wabbling over for more! hes 3 weeks old and is the size of my dogs snoout!),
Im sorry but its funny and we all need a laugh when 2 dogs lives are at stake for nothing other than IGNORANCE.
Most little dogs are the aggressors and most large dogs are GENTLE GIANTS! now how many attacks have you EVER heard of with newfoundlands that werent for self defense of itself or its owner? um, NONE.
Sorry for rambling, but im TIRED of innocent dogs being out on death row for NO reason! i hope this petition saves them!

I will share this. Comox is on Vancouver Island in British Colombia, Canada for those of you wondering where this is taking place. Killing these dogs constitutes an act of murder. We cannot let this happen.

From the article:

Black Creek dogs' fate must wait until fall
By Erin Haluschak - Comox Valley Record

Published: July 24, 2012 11:00 AM
Updated: July 24, 2012 11:56 AM

The fate of two young Newfoundland dogs should be determined by early fall, as a court hearing for an application to destroy the dogs brought forth by the Comox Valley Regional District concluded Monday.

The two dogs — Chum and Champ — owned by Black Creek couple Edith and Jacques Manseau are being held at the Comox Valley SPCA following seizure spurred from a Jan. 5 complaint of a vicious dog attack.

The three-day hearing, which began in March, heard from various witnesses, including neighbours, former tenants and the regional district's animal control officer.

Monday, the Manseau's lawyer Eric Chesterley called three final witnesses — the dogs' veterinarian Stacey Gastis; Comox resident Ken Beachey, who examined the Manseau's property; and canine behavourial expert Gary Gibson.

The CVRD is claiming a small Jack Russell terrier belonging to the Manseau's next-door neighbour was dragged through a wire fence by their dogs, and received serious injuries to the throat and back.

Gastis testified he treats injuries on animals from dog bites "on a weekly basis" and most are puncture wounds from canine teeth.

He noted after looking at the patient chart of the Jack Russell, he could not find anything that he would describe as puncture wounds, and said the injuries are more typical of an industrial accident, with lesions most commonly seen in horses.

"If there was a bite, I would expect to see multiple fang bites in the chest," he added.

Troy DeSouza, the lawyer for the CVRD, quested Gastis if his wife, veterinarian Tammi Whelan, could be considered an advocate for the Newfoundland dogs.

"Yes," he replied.

After showing a behavourial video shot at the SPCA, which showed Gibson and his partner taking the dogs through various tests, Gibson told court Champ is "one of the least aggressive dogs you'll ever find. He doesn't want to react to dogs in any way, shape or form."

He described Chum as "much more people-oriented and interactive" but when faced with an agitated dog in a kennel without much room to manoeuvre, Gibson said Chum "will not initiate a fight or an aggressive act, but will fight back if it happens."

DeSouza told court he believes there is an option in this hearing: If Crown proves its case, to either grant the application to euthanize the dogs, or if it doesn't, to deny the application.

He noted there are cases where Crown can seek for a conditional destruction order, but in his written submission, DeSouza said it should not apply in this case.

A conditional destruction order has four guidelines —the dog owners have complied with the law; rehabilitation for the dog(s) is likely to succeed; dog owners are responsible owners and the conditional order will ensure public safety.

If one of the conditions are breached, the dog will then be destroyed.

Both lawyers will submit written closing arguments, and a decision could be made in September, with a date to be determined.

And let's not forget that many places that have BSl, such as Belfast, have put dogs on the list just because of their size...Irish Wolfhounds for one.
I raised and showed these dogs for years, and in all that time, and including all the other owners i knew, NEVER ONCE even heard of one that ever had anything but the gentlest of natures...
And did you know that even Golden Retrievers have made that dreaded list, along with your GSD's, Dobie's, Rotties etc?!
These are clearly case's of ignorant lawmakers and judges legislating and passing judgements on that which they are extremely, totally unqualified to do.
It's time to raise hell people, because no one, you, me, NO ONE, NO PLACE is safe and immune from these laws or the people that decide them, fools all.!

For every action there is a reaction. According to the law of karma, if we cause

pain and suffering to other living beings, we must endure pain and suffering in

return, both individually and collectively. We reap what we sow, in this life and

the next, for nature has her own justice. No one can escape the law of karma.

Petition noted and signed - thank you Buffy for bringing this to everyone's attention. I do hope that this decision is overturned as this is disgusting, doesn't this idiot that's put a death sentence on these poor innocent dogs realise that these are gentle giants in the dog world - how can he, he is no dog lover! He is no better than an animal abuser himself, shocking, too sad for words! Heartbreaking, if these were my dogs I would be devastated - my heart goes out to the family and I pray with all my heart that they get their dogs back. What's the point of having written veterinary proof to save the lives of these poor dogs, obviously in this case it doesn't mean a thing. Surely this person's heart is made of pure stone, let's hope that one day if he has children, this doesn't happen to him, what's the saying "what goes around, comes around" - this could happen! God bless these dogs, I pray that the outcome will be a good one!x
