If there are any elementary level teachers reading this, there is a book called "The Great Kapok Tree". This beautifully illustrated book tells of a man who about to cut down a kapok tree in the Amazon. Before he can swing his ax, several animals come to the tree's defense telling him what it would mean to the forest if he took this tree.
The book is a great environmental lesson, also, a great supplement in teaching about the rain forest.
