Very true, use of the wrong bio-fuels may well aggrevate poverty and hunger in developing countries while doing little to reduce net CO2 emissions. Ethanol from Corn is I believe only marginally lower in CO2 emissions than fossil fuels once all the fertilizer, and process energy has been taken into account. Far better to improve fleet fuel efficiency, and develope fuels such as those based on algae and switchgrass with far lower net emissions.

Note that the US supreme court barred as unconstitutional a Californian proposal to improve fleet fuel efficiency by 2020 to a level comparable to CURRENT European standards. Meanwhile the European Union has plans to cut vehicle emissions to around 19% by 2012, and to reduce emissions by a further 30% of 2012 targets betweenthen and 2020. When will the USA get serious on this issue?

Good news post Thunderr .. I was just about to post this when this notified me it was already posted.

Time to make lots more noise at the whitehouse. Knock on their door, rattle their chains. Tell Congress the world is getting older, FASTER, with only a finite amount of time to take action on reducing our Carbon Footprint with Rock Solid solutions. Feed the 3rd world countries food ...
