Lennox Alive, Higher Court Options Open

Animals  (tags: animalwelfare, Lennox still alive, Supreme Court in London, other options remain, public demanding to see Lennox, BSL, Cesar Millan, Victoria Stilwell, Belfast City Council, First Minister Robinson, the fight to save Lennox continues )

Facebook was abuzz Tuesday following the decision issued at 10 a.m.Belfast time. Emotions ran high, especially when untrue reports began to be posted that the dog had already been euthanized and that the family hadn't been allowed to say good-bye.

I was sent an email yesterday, where there was some doubt about whether Lennox was stil alive or if he had been euthanized by the Belfast City Council. There was even some confusion on the internet about this. I spent quite a restless night thinking about this and was so glad to see an article which cleared up this confusion! Lennox is indeed alive, and there are other options which the family can pursue even taking this to the Supreme Court in London. So take heart and keep those letters still coming folks to the Belfast City Council, the media, and the First and Deputy Minister of Northern Ireland!

Let's hope a sincere effot is made by the Council to reverse their original, misguided decision.
Hang in there Lennox! So many of us are rooting for you.

How anyone can trample the lives of a family and a sweet faithful dog like Lennox, and put them through such hell and misery is beyond my ability to conceive! And these are supposed to be elected officials and their employees who are supposed to abide by the law! What I so hope for (as I know all of you do) is that Lennox makes it out alive as these people might be afraid to mess with him because people like us keep the spotlight on these wretches who prefer to remain in the dark and do their dastardly deeds. That's why we have to keep reminding them that we know that Lennox never did anything wrong and we won’t accept their distortions of the truth and we will continue to act as the conscience which they don't have and be the voice of Lennox to get his story out there- this sweet and gentle dog who they have tried so hard to villify. But people everywhere are seeing who is the innocent one, Lennox, and it is the Belfast City Council who are the corrupt ones. Ironically, it is they not Lennox who are behaving badly! And Bianca, even if the Council doesn't, then a higher court may do so because they don't see any evidence to support the Council's actions and their wild accusations!

Lennox's heart and soul are pure, (as all animals) and he cannot understand the minds of those whose motives are so contrived and based on self-serving interests. These people are missing the beauty of Lennox because they aren’t as pure as he is and they are not looking for the truth- they are only looking to cover up for their incompetency and their wrongdoings instead of looking at this situation honestly and without prejudice- for that is what is keeping them from doing the right thing and releasing Lennox to his family.

People are even trying to get in touch with the Queen. We in the USA are not used to British law and it will be a real shock (and really bad publicity) if LENNOX is put down! Poor family, poor baby!!

This article is encouraging to me and makes me realize that there is strength in numbers. I plan to continue writing to the Belfast City Council and sharing this story online. Lennox and his family are counting on us. We can make it happen. Collectively we can free Lennox. Every letter and every posting helps. Thank you Julia for sharing the optimistic news. We must keep Lennox in our prayers.

"Peter Robinson, current First Minister of Northern Ireland and leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), also denounced the court ruling"

Perhaps I'm a little slow but, if the first minister of Northern Ireland is against this why can't he either work to change this ridiculous legislation or give the dog a pardon?

If society had gone after the people who are responsible for torturing these dogs with the same zeal that use to go after dogs themselves, these animals wouldn't be in the sad position that they're in now.

Thank you all for your passionate determination to free Lennox of such an injustice! As Michael H. pointed out, Lennox's health is deteriorating. Victoria Stilwell author, renown dog trainer, and TV personality has stated in an article at
that she is shocked by Lennox’s apparent deterioration of health and certainly the recent pictures that we've seen of Lennox all seem to confirm her alarm about his present health due to his intense confinement. There are questions about the kind of care that he has been receiving, and if there has been violations to Belfast's own animal welfare laws.

The Belfast City Council won't even let Lennox have visits with his own family, and he is very secluded- they won't even tell the family where he's being kept.
There is growing concern about Lennox's health by the public at large and many people are, understandably, asking the BCC if they can see a video of Lennox to see what his current state of health is. As Janet also pointed out, I think it's high time that the First Minister of Northern Ireland, Peter Robinson, who strongly expressed his disapproval of this court's decision, to intervene in this matter and actually show with his actions, not just with his words, that he is an effective leader and a man who makes decisions based on reason and ethics, and therefore have Lennox released to his family as Lennox has done no harm to anyone but looks as though he has been harmed- by his appearance- by the Belfast City Council and their egregious actions!
I think Peter Robinson also needs to make the BCC accountable for their outrageous behavior and the stress they put Lennox and his family through for no justifiable reason, by terminating this bad bunch of power hungry and vindictive people! They aren’t interested in really serving the people of Belfast in an impartial manner, they are only interested in using their power to oppress and intimidate rather than endeavoring to do what is right and just.

If no one has seen the dog, then perhaps they already did it, but they are being held accountable now. I thought Lennex was put down a long time ago and was pleasantly surprised to learn a couple of day ago she wasn't. This has gone on way too long. The courts need to step up, and let a vet outside of this jurisdiction evaluatie the dog, but need to remember that this dog has been jailed for no fault of it's own for 14 years in dogs life.

Words rarely fail me but in this truly INSANE case all I can do is pray for what this poor dog has suffered for 600+ days! He LOOKS dangerous and these STUPID LEGAL ARSE WIPES find that justifiable cause to have held this dog in confinement this long? and then consider euthanizing him? Well what a lovely place Belfast is! What will these fools do next, people who do not look right or think right! A little Hitlerian mind set in Belfast me thinkesth. Going to Ireland had been a dream of mine once, not anymore. Again, my prayers for Lennon and his family.

A thousand thanks to Julia for this update and her Trojan efforts in this as in all issues. And also to all those who have tried to help. I should point out to Mary Riley that the law in question is not 'British', any more than certain identical states laws in the US are 'American' -- it is local. The problem we now have to deal with is face-saving -- how can a bulldog-lab cross be taken under a BSB? And kept in the teeth of global outrage and NI's own First Minister? Our greatest fear must be that Lennox will pine away while the various appeal processes grind away. If the Belfast powers-that-be think that will solve their problem, they need a crash-course in cognitive skills.

This story is incredibly tragic (before this I thought it was dead Lennox) and sad,
but there is hope now that Julia has updated, Lennox is still alive and I hope
Peter Robinson of first responders, or the higher court.

But how foolish man, who can spend so much money for a case which was
dragged for more than two years?
Leaving a poor dog in a kennel left to deteriorate and without his family?
I wonder who can take advantage of this "thing" if: the Irish law? the media? or the Lennox's
family for the care taken?
Given the great global prominence received by Lennox, surely someone else which makes
it convenient to keep talking.

I signed, as often all that I could find on the web - thank you very much for this
nice update dear Julia

The dog catcher and other people involved do not want to lose "face" in this sordid situation.

They should have sent the pup back to its owner, the little handicapped girl, before this situation
went repair long ago.

beautiful lennox must be saved. he is the prime example of breed demoralization. how they got this far puzzles me. to keep a creature for 2 years in a filthy hole without any comfort or any contact with the outside world, especially his family, is torture and this treatment is despicable. this must be a lesson learned for everyone. lennox is innocent, every dog is innocent until proven guilty. he has done nothing at all except to be born a pit bull. that is NOT reason to murder him, nor is it reason to torture him as you are now doing. let him go. you cannot hold him any longer, you have no legal rights. treat him as if he were part of your family. then, you might understand the tragedy of this unacceptable bias towards him.

Noted and shared..I have followed Lennox's story since he was seized 2 years ago. It encourages me that so many have taken up his cause..sadly, I truly believe that this has become an issue of "pride" and refusal by the Council to re-think that perhaps their initial actions were made in haste. To think that this all started as the result of the "animal control" going to the WRONG address in the first place! BSL is a dangerous law..and many. many dogs have paid the price..

We humans categorize & stereotype our own human population & villify whole cultures based on prejudice & bias. We do this based on a small number of certain populations that are violent, aggressive, terroristic & antagonistic towards what we believe in. We are doing the same to breeds of dogs based on fear of what may have happened in the past. I do not like the term"bully breeds"- it sends the wrong connotation that these breeds are bad & should be banned & destroyed. Just how typical & arrogant some of our human race can be. Give Lennox back to his family. I still miss my pittie- JOJO. He was a wonderful dog. How can This dog have been kept from his family for over 2 years. Just because he is a pit mix. How shameful.
