When Mercury went retrograde March 12, it began moving backward through Aries and on March 23 slipped back into Pisces. When the retrograde ends April 4, Mercury will begin to move forward in Pisces and then re-enter Aries on April 16.

This is a nice positive take on Mercury Retrograde. It helps to look for the lesson or benefit.

thanks Betsy, mercury in retrograde just puts a different spin on things, doesn't have to be negative, and much can be learned from working with the energy of the time

??? Mercury is a planet. Mercury has no opinion or effect on ANYTHING that happens in our daily lives. Why do otherwise intelligent people still believe this astrology crap?

Shan, I stopped putting much stock in astrology in my 30's when I would read the horoscopes in the newspaper and found that each of them had described what my day had been like. However, that being said, every now and then I'll get this feeling, wondering why things are moving in the usual patterns I had become familiar with and darn if every time I checked I found Mercury was in retrograde. I don't follow it. I have to google a site to find out each time, I don't even keep it in my favorites. There is a pattern and I can sense it. Not buying the crap, but I can hear when it rings the doorbell.

As a professional astrologer, I can give some tips to get through a retrograde Mercury. First of all, Shan and Michael, one of the most esteemed physicists of all times was also a pioneering astrologer. Somebody once told an eminent physicist that he was dumb to put so much time into studying astrology. The physicist's reply was, "I have studied the subject. You haven't. That's all I need to say." That physicist was Sir Isaac Newton - who is believed to have had an IQ of 190.

I have been a professional astrologer for over 30 years, have written three books and many, many magazine articles on the subject, and my experience is this: Astrology works! It may fly in the face of all logic, but there it is. What was that phrase from Shakespeare's HAMLET? "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamed of in your philosophy."

Mercury is the planet of communication, and the retrograde condition implies that a planet appears to be going backwards in the sky. It's not, of course, but when a planet passes the Earth, it APPEARS to be going backwards, and therefore communication tends to descend into confusion. Why does it work that way? Who knows? The best way to deal with it is to just be very careful with what you say and do. And if you must give an important lecture, you need to do it slowly, and answer people's questions. At least, that works for me.

Thanks for your reply Mary. I've had 3 or 4 charts done of varying costs by purportedly well thought of professional astrologers and I can't say that I found any of them very helpful or useful. However, I have stayed current with quantum physics as it can be told to people like myself who are poor at math by reading B. Greene, Michio Kaku, Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawkings. So I understand the phenomena and the potential effects due to stresses on gravity and the other forces and how they might be sensed by a human. I wanted to believe it had significance, but it hasn't yet for me. But, I can sense what is going on in regard to Mercury in Retrograde and agree keenly with your final suggestions.

"Why do otherwise intelligent people still believe this astrology crap?"
Why are otherwise intelligent people triggered by other peoples beliefs? Why do otherwise intelligent people have a need to judge other peoples beliefs, philosophies or opinions by labelling them in a derogatory way ie. "crap." Why don't otherwise intelligent people practice the basic principles of acceptance and respect? Oops, I better stop now, least I sound like I am judging the judger.......

Thanks Bee, Have you been into Chinese Astrology. I am the year of the Snake... and you ?

I was born the Year of the Dog. Beyond that I'm pretty ignorant of Chinese astrology. But I do find it interesting. I know very little about quantum mechanics, but I would like to.

A friend of mine, my mentor, who was a world-famous astrologer, told me that there is nothing wrong with astrology - just with the astrologers! Some of them have very weird ideas. I wish I could give you a reading, Shan and Michael. You just might leave with different ideas! I don't take credit for this - it was my teacher who taught me. She's gone now - which is a great loss to metaphysical studies. Have a great Sunday!

Thanks Mary for your exploration of of this topic. I agree that it could just be the luck of the draw. I know one of the charts, the most professional of the 3, was rather expensive and very lengthy. Yet it frequently contradicted itself as if comparing to very different poles of the same person. Nor do I desire by my words to ward anyone else off or away from astrology. I am only saying that it hasn't been rewarding in my personal experience. Further, I wish to distance myself from any reference to it being crap. I also wish to commend you for your even handed discussion of the issue. Have a great Sunday as well!

Those computerized astrology readings are about as good as could be expected under the circumstances, but they can be contradictory and confusing. It takes a living, educated human being to give a well-rounded, accurate reading. If any of you want to take the plunge and actually go to a professional, the American Federation of Astrologers might be able to refer you to a certified professional in your area. I have no idea what each astrologer charges, but you can always ask. It depends on whether you want the basics or the whole shebang, or somewhere in between.
