Listen carefully to how well a "suspension" of American democracy has been crafted. There are no treats only TRICKS from the party of shame and sham.

Can you believe what you heard? Wasn't democracy suspended quietly?

Sure was and I give kudos to the Rep. from MD we heard that was so well prepared to call them on their undemocratic fiat so the GOP has the full control destroy the country and world's economy(ies) or not preventing any DEM from being able to show them how to honor their constitutional responsibilities and oaths of office like any patriot would.

And . . . STILL the GOP/TP supporters will support this seditious behavior, dereliction of duties and irresponsibly mindlessness financial stress on this country's citizens in most need of assistance (veterans, jobless families, and the elderly).

DISGUSTING and heartlessly selfish.

Thanks for posting, Betsy.

Me too, Nyack. I was watching TV and saw this when it went down at the time. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I'm with you, and I hope the whole bunch of them ends up in Gitmo. They don't know a thing about running a government and don't deserve the seats they are dishonoring. There must be a way to get rid of them before they destroy all of us and the entire country.

What a bunch of friggin' cowards and bullies the GOP is. They don't give a damn what all of this is doing to the people, they just want to get their way, and in the process, destroy this country. How can that 'change of rules' be allowed? What a bunch of dirty, thieving bastards the GOP is.

This flagrant abuse of power is becoming ridiculously like a frat house toga party.

Unfortunately, the only people being suspended are not the perpetrators, but the very taxpayers dependent upon their "representatives" who they entrusted with enough power to enable them to execute their duties, with respect for the thinking of others, while being ever mindful of their top priority: ensuring the successful democratic process and protection of all citizens.

In the real world, we'd have the power to FIRE anyone we paid, who considered their position to be an instrument of revenge and sabotaged the very government they were hired to support.

Just Carole: You are spot on! They ought to be ashamed of themselves, being so obstinate, like a spoiled child trying anything and everything to get their way. They care nothing for the people that voted for them, I'm not one of them, though, thank goodness. I still can not believe what I heard on this video, the GOP making their own rules, changing the actual one! This so reminds me of my childhood, when some brats in my circle kept changing the rules of the games we played, just to suit themselves! These are grown adults???? Anal retentive fools.

Why bother voting?

Short explanation provided on YouTube:

"Late in the evening on September 30, 2013, the House Rules Committee Republicans changed the Rules of the House so that the ONLY Member allowed to call up the Senate's clean CR for a vote was Majority Leader Eric Cantor or his designee -- all but guaranteeing the government would shut down a few hours later and would stay shut down. Previously, any Member would have had the right to bring the CR up for a vote. Democracy has been suspended in the House of Representatives."

Think the shutdown wasn't a premeditated event? They GOP knew exactly what they were doing, and they covered all their bases. Boehner is concerned only about keeping his job. Our country, our economy, and the well-being of the rest of the world are less important items on his personal agenda. Cantor and his tea party thugs need to be removed from office. If there is no mechanism in place to make this possible, they need to be voted out of office at the next election. I wish the average citizen would be aware of these things. Based on the viewer comments I read on YouTube, only a few commenters knew how to interpret what had transpired. Many didn't appear to have understood the significance of what the Republicans had done and were insulting each over totally unrelated issues. That's one of the reasons we're in this situation: a large number of citizens don't know what's going on or choose to believe the carefully-crafted propaganda financed by those who don't want people to know the truth. And many who do know and understand are not using the tools at hand to protest such actions.

What the Republicans of the House Rules Committee did made it impossible for any other member of the House to call up the Senate's Clean CR for a vote. That's not democracy. That's sabotage.

Thank you for posting this, Betsy. It made my blood boil, and I hope it gets a lot of exposure.

There you have it. Incorporation of ‘acts’ per se; acts written in deceptive language designed to whittle away the 'Rule of Law' and constitutional rights.

If there is any justice left in our Country, those Republicans responsible for this, should be arrested for Treason and or Sedition, tried, and if found guilty face the penalty of Death...They are not living up to the oath they took to the Constitution the American People who they are supposed to represent, and they are trying to destroy the Government of this Country, and by the laws of the land, they are traitors, and if found guilty should be put to death as an enemy of the State...Funny thing to me is, that they are doing what they keep accusing President Obama of doing...

Thx for posting Betsy. i saw this already yesterday and had the exact same thoughts: charge them with conspiracy and lock them up! Although apparently they ARE insane, not sure if they would deserve extenuating circumstances by putting them in the wacko ward..

So it comes down to "I'm not getting my way so I will change the bills, resolutions and LAW to show you!" Meanwhile, we, "THE PEOPLE" are the ones getting hurt by this childish, egotistical, incompetence? Don't get me wrong, I love my country, I just can't stand some of the idiots in Washington. Why do they conveniently forget that they are there to supposedly represent me once they have been elected? Sorry, time to get off my soapbox.

Thank you, Betsy, for calling my attention to this. The GOP is just plain pathetic. I do not understand what they hope to gain. Are they doing this entire for the purpose of cutting 'entitlements"?

I would like to tell my fellow readers of Care2 that I cannot use my private message feature. I cannot respond to personal messages at all. It only allows one option-"cancel". I cannot send or preview my replies to your notes. I have encountered a number of these weird glitches on Care2.

noted, but, really ... is anyone surprised? The beginning of the process by which the U.S. was hijacked began a long time ago and has been continuing and will continue ... unless people stop it and I am pretty sure that isn't going to happen. People really are, by and large, sheeple and they have been lulled into a state of compliance and acceptance, of confusion and isolation. The division between right and left plays perfectly into the hands of the rulers, the true rulers ... we all need to wake up and be ready to do something ,,, something besides the robotic daily lives we lead ... but again, I see no reason to believe that s on the horizon.

I AM the bad news bear and I authorize this message because it is the truth, however sad ...

Tricky little buzzards, aren't they? All by themselves they turned the House of Representatives into a one party body. Insane. Can we move to have them all examined by a physician of their choosing for congenital hypocrisy?

This is so clearly subterfuge and plain dishonesty by the Republicans who put through this measure #368 that it makes me sick. I'm disgusted by this country as represented by most of the present politicians in Congress-- both R and Ds, but the Rs take the cake... and I hope they choke on it! Thanks, Betsy, for giving this some "press."

Noted, tweeted, shared. Too bad most Americans don't know this; one of our major problems ironically in this day of communication is too many people don't read, listen to different stations or Public Radio or Television. They hear something and accept it without doing any checking or research. We are a society of lazy thinkers. As a result we have lost many rights.
