Are you tired of shopping in a crowded Wal-mart where everyone is literally rushed, the produce is shipped in from who knows where, and natural, cruelty-free products are few and far between? If so, then give shopping locally a shot!

Finding out where your local service and food businesses and farmers’ markets are located in your area is only a click away online. If you are not enirely sure why buying locally is important, please check out this handy list. Does your family not understand why you only want to buy your food from farmers’ markets or buy homemade soap from your neighbors?

1. Fresher food is available at your local market.
2 There is way less packaging involved.
3. Buying local helps the local economy.
4. Buying local helps support your neighbors.
5. You know where your food comes from if you buy it at the local farmers' market.
6. Buying local is actually better for the planet.
7. The experience is way more fun.
8. You get to meet your farmers.
9. It can help you save money.
And 10. Buying local gives you the opportunity to buy in bulk.

Please note, comment and forward.

Thanks Fiona--my local stores have clear labels on what is local--which includes coffee and bread in addition to produce.

Buying local for me means spending more time outside in the sunny orchards and with baby animals.

I haven't been to a farmer's market in a long time. I need to visit one! Meanwhile, I live near a Sprouts, and they often have local produce.

Thank everyone for noting. Thank everyone for the wonderful comments.

Freya, during the hot six months of the year here in the Phoenix area, the farmers' markets close. I do all of my produce buying at Sprouts. Some of the produce is not grown locally because of the heat.

When I lived in Vermont, I grew most of my produce......free dried and froze a lot. In Vermont in the Summer the Farmers' markets are open.......but I did not go and buy. During the Winter, I bought at local markets....all organic but not locally grown.
