Psychology: Why You Want to Squeeze Cute Things : 80beats

We've all experienced that urge to squeeze something that is really, really cute. Think tiny bunnies, baby ducks, a pudgy baby's cheeks. In the Philippines they even have a word for it:gigil n. the urge to pinch or squeeze something that is cute.

I had read about this and thought what a different study this is. I wonder why bubble wrap was used instead of stuffed toys. When one feels that "cute aggression" they usually respond with a hug or a squeeze not exactly a press that bubble wrap needs to make it pop. Still pretty interesting study, thanks for the share.

Is that why I want to hug my friends? what is the actual point of the study, and who paid for it?

Most Asians are sick with this ailment, they make a lot of videos crushing animals. Disgusting & cruel.
