Dear Diane,

Isn’t it a great feeling to know that somebody is thinking of you?

A note from an old friend or a call from a grandchild can put a smile on anybody’s face.

But for some of our Lakota (Sioux) students, loving notes or calls are rare ... especially during the summer months when they are away from their support system at St. Joseph’s Indian School.

That’s why the love and encouragement from people like you is so important to our students.

As a special end-of-the-school-year surprise for our Lakota children, we’re going to light candles of hope and deliver messages of support from compassionate people like you.

Will you help make a child feel loved and valued with just a few clicks of your mouse? Light a virtual candle of hope and send your message of encouragement to a child at St. Joseph’s Indian School before our May 22 deadline, just days before graduation. We’ll light a real candle on graduation day, and deliver your heartfelt messages to our students.

It’s this kind of simple encouragement that made the difference for LaToya, one of our senior graduates.

LaToya came to St. Joseph’s in the seventh grade with a third grade reading level, and a passion to improve. After receiving the love and encouragement she needed at St. Joseph’s, LaToya excelled and has a 3.5 GPA. She continues to push herself in school and even has a part-time job as a dietary aide at our local hospital.

There are so many more Native American children like LaToya, boys and girls who need a reminder that they are special and loved.

Light a candle of hope and send your message to our Lakota students today.

We’re going to send all the messages to our students before our graduation ceremony - I hope you’ll take advantage of this simple but powerful opportunity to show just how much you care.

Thank you for your kind and caring support of our Lakota students.

God bless,

Fr. Stephen Huffstetter, SCJ
Director, St. Joseph's Indian School
