in the near decade since 9/11, while hundreds of Americans died from E. coli, and at least 30,000 from food-borne illnesses generally, only a handful of Americans, perhaps less than 20, have died from anything that might be considered a terror attack

"So suck it up. Nothing is secure. No one is safe. Now, eat your sprouts." Couldn't have said it better myself. Of course, I grow my own sprouts; hell, more than 75% of all my family's produce---so I know what's in it, on it and I keep the seeds for the next round of crops. So, suck it up, Conservative Chicken Littles, and get thee to a Corporate Supermarketi so you can feast on what the Corporatocracy wants you to consume, and not a damn thing more.

Great post, Kit.

Yep, growing your own fruits and veggies is a great leap for independence. Ending the Homeland INSecurity farce a great way to save billions of dollars, and regain some of our constitutional freedoms.

More die from having lack of medical care or having dangerous pills pushed onto them for the ones who can afford it.

Remember when we use to have a Government and Leaders that said:

“There is nothing to fear but fear itself.” Franklin D. Roosevelt

Great post Kit. The Chicken Little Model of Governance is exactly what is wrong with America. It is used to distract, to polarize and create this us v. them ideology which leads to nothing good.

@Dandelion - "More die from having lack of medical care or having dangerous pills pushed onto them for the ones who can afford it."

So true. It's criminal the way the pharmaceutical industry is ripping off those that can ill aford the astronomical costs of leading edge drugs, not to mention the cost of all of the other drugs. Were drug costs addressed in Obamacare? Can't remember.

Mpontasanto is the cuprit and their genetic foods that are pattened but not fda approved. Normally e-coli likes in the intestines-lower I believe and in feces. viruses are the smallest of microbes and cannot be kiled with antibiotics. Montasanto has fused food plants with an insecticide that they become one. To do that they use the virus and e-coli bacteria to gain entry to the cell core and inplant their pesticide and something else to cause the actions to merge and become one. When you have a ruptured appendix or colon in you body, e-coli is displaced within your body cavity and a major infection begins as sepsis and if not reversed can cause death. So I guess what can happen if we are fed e-coli and viruses thru foods from plants by montasanto? cause articles are written to say they are and the battles they are having with regular farmers. The cuprits are the neo-cons and the bushes names are front and center in evry complaint with rumesfeld and neo cons. go figure.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger..right?;) Which is exactly why CONservatives are trying like crazy to Actually kill us! People, especially us Baby Boomers, just take too damn long to die. And since we do like to eat, it makes sense (CONservatively) to allow more poisons in the food, defund the FDA, etc. and then CLAIM people are more afraid of Terrorists! But those polls Never say that people like me think RepubliCONs & Blue-Dogs ARE the Terrorists!

Americans sure are a fearful people. Our government likes to keep us this way. It is easier for the propaganda to work this way.

The governments keeps the people living in fear cause that's how they control our every move even though we don't know all their dirty little secrets that they have got us into.

There is nothing new or unique about using fear, it has proven itself a most handy device to keep the government in control and people responding as expected. As this article so nicely demonstrates our fears are mostly centered on the wrong or mistaken things. So we often miss the things we should pay attention to by diversion that direct our attention toward something that a government can use as reassurance. We have largely diluted the strength of the FDA and it's ability to function as watchdog for our safety. Instead we have funneled money into a mega-bureaucracy of no less then 30,000 employees. Homeland Insecurity operates with an umbrella that encompasses so many agencies that none can really operate at top efficiency. Smaller government? I don't think so.
