Well Kit I think this explains a lot - as Americans we are split in many ways - and as America we are as well - what a great way to disrupt the American Constitution and create havoc - it disturbs me greatly that so many don't see what is happening - couldn't happen to the USA - well it not only can - it HAS!

Is this not indicative of what happened in Italy under Mussolini and then in Germany under Hitler? People get fearful in depressed economic times and turn to those who tell them, not to worry. "I have the answers" and suddenly all the young men were in uniforms and had a job, though the next step would be the inevitable use of the uniforms for war.

It seems the pseudo intellectual thing is to blame us, Christians, just as once folks of a different race were blamed for things that were the fault of only a few radically insane cases.

The denominational churches of today are as wrong as they were when Jesus was here.

Christians have done a lot of good in this world that some are unwilling to admit.

The things said about Christians, ranking us all together are as hateful and prejudiced as the things once said about other races and currently being fought against by those who are gay.

Dang it!!! Stop accusing all of us for the crimes of a few.

You cetainly would not allow the things said against us to be said against you and your groups. If we were to say against sceptics and atheists the things you say against us, if we were to comment with equal hate against you, we wold be banned.

Fair is fair.

It is always uncomfortable to see the truth but the truth is that many rightwing republicans have high-jacked the grand old party with their religious bigotry for their own purpose's mainly to return our country to a time when the ultra rich ruled our country with blackmail and bribery now that's the truth weather anyone like's it or not many Christian denominations have been co-opted by these people (bachmann, Perry et-al) and the only way to bring back two parties loyal to our constitution is to expose these frauds return our church’s and our country to the people that they belong too.

That;s another intolerable thing the tea party and the rightwingers have done to this country. By wearing our label but refusing to abide by our ethics, they have made Christians a laughing stock. They have roused unthinking and unwarranted prejudice against us. They have provoked quarreling and false assumptions against us. They have brought hate and bigotry where once there was caring and respect.

I for one did not vote for one person of the Tea Party pursuasion. And I am not the only Christian who is furious with the tea party and Republican behavioral problems.

Well Allan, the folks the GOP have given us for consideration, from Bachmann to Romney and all in are not exactly people that talk in terms of solutions. Rather their only focus is on what is not done, (thanks to Congress) and which war they want next, Iran seems the primary focus.

I think we should not only apologize for our outlandish, colonialist behavior but, begin new policies visa-via the our involvement in other countries. No one can sell or force democratic ideas on others any more then one can fight a war of ideas - which is what terrorism is currently about.

Interesting topic/read with what I found to be some very good comments about it..with the exception of a couple rightwing and or teabagger religous zealots comments ..which..in my opinon are just more proof of religious insaniTEA trying to take over the entire politcal scene and or their racist thoughts poping up on what would otherwise be a really enjoyable and interesting discussion about the 'topic' of the thread. Our country sorely lacks ground moral character. The world is descending into godless chaos. All human institutions are irredeemably corrupt; can you name one that is not? Our banking institutions fair or not? If you are lucky your biggest purchase is your home, how does the banking institutions rate there?

Why should our government be allowed to exempt themselves from healthcare, taxes, stocks and the list goes on but the buck does not stop there?

Conditions in this world are steadily deteriorating our ancestors were man of faith and moral character. This article is the opinion of one person, even through there is good points researched, it sorely lacks the bigger picture, and much is left out. There are haters in every group.

All of us who really care about this country will have to step up and work harder for the good life we have; remember GOOD PEOPLE worked hard and smart to get us to this good life. In the 1960s there were two popular books 'A Nation of Sheep' and 'The Ugly Americans.' Both are applicable today (think, US military killing innocent people with drones). Yuck! Have you seen the article in the Causes area of Care2 which says there are some "faithful" Christians who consider atheists less trustworthy than rapists? If that's not hateful, I don't know what is.
