NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—Taking a victory lap after their candidate’s win in the first Presidential debate Wednesday night, Romney campaign insiders today attributed his success to his strategic use of relentless lying.

“We worked for hours on this during the practice debates,” said the campaign manager Matt Rhoades. “We were, like, ‘Mitt, if you find yourself on the verge of saying something true, bite your tongue.’ ”

Mr. Rhoades said that the nominee was allowed to say his real name and acknowledge that he used to be a Governor, “but other than that, he was on a very short leash, truth-wise.”

While Mr. Romney’s talent for lying was in evidence during the Republican primary debates, it was nothing like the “mad skills” he displayed Wednesday night, the campaign manager said.

“All the hard work and practice lying really paid off,” Mr. Rhoades said. “Plus hanging out with Paul Ryan.”

This is humor, nothing but political satire.

The truth is often quite amusing - especially when it is about not telling the truth. Thanks Kit.

I was watching hid face and how distorted he looked. His mouth was moving and he wasn't saying anything plausible that showed me he won the debate. When I heard I was wondering if I was watching the same debate as those people. Well all I heard was the same lies he's been telling since he was governor. They have just gotten bigger. One minute he doesn't about 47% of Americans but on Wednesday he's suddenly concerned about all Americans. He is so full of crap he walks he leaks it everywhere. Anyone who believes a word he said is just plain stupid as hell. He said there is no way he is going to raise taxes fior the wealthy but he is going to raise taxes. So who's taxes is he going to raise??? You already know the answer, OUR'S. So for those people that are already poor and struggling get ready to become poorer and non-stop struggling if you vote for him.

Thanks for the lighter moment in this day that so many are proud of their belief is falsehoods and taking the position that the end justifies the means........

LOL, yeah, but I wonder if folks do realise that those "mad skills" are actually his very real pre-existing conditions of a pseudologia phantastica case. Let's hope that one is also covered by his own proposed plan! ;-)

Great way for me to start my day and my first visit to care2 today by reading this one :-)....

I guess that Romney's Mormon books/bible's do not list the 10 comandments...I know his and their God are different than the rest of the christians but is ok for them to lie lie'd of thunk it .....!?!

As reported by Colbert, yes? Love it. Doesn't the Romney lot see how funny they are? We've known right from the start.

I could only watch about 10 mins of the debate.Romney looked like a crazed, jacked up, speed freak and I could not believe (but I could) what dribble was coming out of his mouth.I thought of the phrase "if his mouth is open he is lying" or something to that effect. I had to shut the TV off.I kept talking back to the TV, so it became Wendy's debate, and I was becoming more irritated by his arrogance.Just was not a good "keep my emotional distance" night" I bowed out (not so gracefully I might add).Anybody who votes for this clown (he reminds me of Pennywise in the King book "IT".Pennywise killed others in multiple ways and hung out often in the fears of everyday children. He often could be found lurking in the water runoff holes lining the city streets) Hmmmmmmmmm.I am going to the video now. Thanks Kit. PS: have been having some difficulty staying on this site lately and particular functions are not working. Will get back to you ASAP.

Since I'm a fan of Bill Maher, I watch his show religiously (wrong word to use relative to Mr. Maher) and I've often heard him refer to Mitt's "magic underpants." I never understood what he was talking about --until today, that is!

I finally googled the term today and found some pretty interesting information. Now I know how he survives all those "PANTS ON FIRE" ratings!

Mitt Romney addresses popular “magic underwear” myths during Iowa press conference'

(Since Mr. Romney has mastered the art of lying and does so with great relish at the expense of the intelligence of any listener who chooses to believe him without fact-checking, he shouldn't mind a little satire at his own expense.)

Funny post, Kit--thanks. Hey, Susanne, remember that interview, (was it w/Kelly Ripa?), asking Willard what he wore to bed...and he said, "as little as possible"? I wondered why nobody called him out on that one--because, as I understand it, Mormons are required to wear this "magic underwear" to that is "as little as possible" for him to wear.
Jon Stewart and Bill Maher have both commented on that planet Willard is supposed to acquire after his death--they have both brought a lot of info out. I think it was Bill who even brought out an old Osmond Family album cover from the 70's to show that planet a few wks. ago. I'm a huge Bill Maher fan, too, and enjoyed watching his stand-up show in Phx. last weekend. I saw him there a couple years ago...and the crowd last week was "overflow" compared to the last one, (although it was a pretty full house then, too).

Thanks Kit. Lying as satire can be funny, unless people take it very seriously, and many do. Great article Kit and picture Dandelion.

Oh, my... I've spent 4 days in bed with a high fever and when I got up I discovered that I've been transported into a parallel universe where Romney won a debate because Pres Obama lost his legendary highly articulated speech and sounded like a confused bystander.

Catching up with news from the past 4 days (Turkey attacked Syria, etc.), I am not sure whether fever is over, or am I still hallucinating. And I have thought it could not get worst than it was on Oct. 3rd, when still I lived in a messed-up world I remember.

I think the president made an error in his judgment call on how to handle the debate. I watched them, not just listened. The body language said he was pissed at himself even while holding to a dynamic he felt he had to adhere to. I hope he gets it that there is a middle ground to what he hopes to achieve in the debates in terms of presenting himself and also smashing Mitt like a bug in the next ones. Hopefully he learned from it. Hopefully, things will be different in the other debates.

In the meantime, here is a link to the 616 lies MItt has told Since January of this year. It is written by an Evangelical Pastor who has some big time heavy duty religious credentials.

The guy who began keeping this blog is Fred Clark and he is an evangelical blogger with some heavy-duty religious credentials, and that adds a particular gravitas to his August 29 blog detailing 533 lies told by Mitt Romney in 30 weeks. That’s right, 533 verifiable, checkable lies told by a candidate running for the top job in the country. To be fair, Mr. Clark isn’t the person who compiled the list. That task was accomplished by Steve Benen, and Benen is cited as the source in Clark’s blog. But Mr. Clark took the time to go through each of Mr. Benen’s articles, starting with the first salvo on January 6, 2012 in the Washington Monthly’s Political Animal Blog and wrapping up with the August 17, 2012 piece written for the Maddow Blog.

The number of lies when I checked the site line last had it up to 616 lies and did not include the 28 lies Mitt told during the debate in 37 minutes. When you go through the blog itself, which you have to do to each individual page some with as few as 5 lies with others hoding as many as 20 or more, there are site links to help you check and verify what he is reporting.

I am currently posting about 5 to 7 of these 616 lies several times a day on
and I have already posted the 12 from the debate on

And then of course here's a link from polilticalusa covering 12 big ones from the debate.
