Bad things can happen in bars, Hatch told the victim, adding that other people might be more intoxicated than she was. "If you wouldn't have been there that night, none of this would have happened to you," Hatch said.

PLEASE SIGN PETITION at Visit Site ---->

Last summer, a drunk Arizona police officer named Robb Gary Evans drove himself to a bar, flashed his badge to avoid paying cover at the door, and then walked up behind a woman, put his hand up her skirt, and ran his fingers over her genitals. A jury convicted him of sexual abuse, a felony with a maximum sentence of 2 and a half years in prison, and Evans was fired from the police force after an internal investigation.

Nevertheless, Arizona trial Judge Jacqueline Hatch, who was appointed to the bench by Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ), decided that Evans’ actions did not warrant jail time — sentencing him probation and 100 hours of community service. Evans also will not have to register as a sex offender. Yet, while Judge Hatch apparently did not view the disgraced former cop’s actions as particularly serious, she had some very harsh words for the woman he assaulted:

Bad things can happen in bars, Hatch told the victim, adding that other people might be more intoxicated than she was.

“If you wouldn’t have been there that night, none of this would have happened to you,” Hatch said.

Hatch told the victim and the defendant that no one would be happy with the sentence she gave, but that finding an appropriate sentence was her duty.

“I hope you look at what you’ve been through and try to take something positive out of it,” Hatch said to the victim in court. “You learned a lesson about friendship and you learned a lesson about vulnerability.”

Hatch said that the victim was not to blame in the case, but that all women must be vigilant against becoming victims.

“When you blame others, you give up your power to change,” Hatch said that her mother used to say.

The victim, who has not been identified by the press, called for Judge Hatch to apologize for her offensive comments, adding that if she had not been at the bar to be assaulted by Evans, “it probably would have happened to someone else.”

Can't believe someone who's so stupid is a "judge"...and impressed on the other hand by the victim wisely saying that if she had not been at the bar to be assaulted by Evans, "it probably would have happened to someone else." - yes, it would.

Of course signed the petition.

Thanks for signing --- please share this with friends, relatives, on Facebook and twitter....we need to make this a big petition. I guess it's just dumb luck that this judge didn't put the victim in jail. What she did do was roll out the red carpet for others to commit the offense and maybe worse.

Kit, this Judge...IMHO, NEEDS to be removed from the bench, NOW!!! I'd hate to be in her court, and have this happen to me, or any of the females in my family.!!! "A jury convicted him of felony sexual abuse, and he was fired from the force". Citizen's rights are 'supposed' to stand on the jury's decision to convict, and that should always apply. For the Judge to not honor the ruling, is wrong, wrong, wrong. DEFINITELY and GLADLY signed...Thanks, Kit for this, keep me posted on this would you? xox

Noted. Signed. The Brewer regime is one of the more extreme examples of teabagger government. The people of Arizona need regime change at the earliest possible opportunity. That judge is proof of the corrupting power of the gavel and robes...not any different than the excess that some are prone to when they can hide behind a badge and a gun.

I'm afraid if we did have institutions for the stupid - they would be very full at this point.

Keep in mind a man perpetrated this crime against a woman, (he was an off duty cop) and a Woman Judge, used her authority of the Bench of Law to dismiss a legal finding of guilty by a jury.

How often do we hear that judges don't want to hear new evidence or do any thing to upset the legal process of a jury trial? Arizona trial Judge Jacqueline Hatch, apparently thinks she knows better than a jury.

My thanks to all for signing - I just don't have Green Stars for everyone.

Most certainly signed Kit and will forward too. Is bad enough that women are abused daily by the male then to be sold out by one of our sisters, deplorable. I hate to say it, but there is a push by the far right extremist to bring all the "old" bullcrap back into mainstream society. And women that support this type of oppression upon her own is a sorrowful person in my eyes, but certainly has no place sitting in judgement of anyone.

What an outrage this is. There are minors..elementy school age who have exposed themselves and nothing more that are on the registered sex offender list and some have even had to 'served time' ...People who are caught uriinating in public are on sex offender list and this putz [being polite here] gets off withnot so much as a slap on the wrist after being found guilty. Has all of Az.'s local/state government/law law enforecemt/court systems gone totally insane ???

Hope she gets to find out real soon, if anyone wants to touch her, that is. She's probably an ugly hag. lol. I've signed that Angelika and hope others will as well. Since when does god - any god want women to be raped? Taken to a logical conclusion, then if a mugger shots you, you must keep the bullet in your body.
Just one more crazy in Congress that needs to go, this one needs a long stay in a very quiet room.

Some real quotes that fit well into our current insane political climate:

U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock (R-IN), in a debate last night: "Even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen."

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL), to reporters last week: "With modern technology and science, you can't find one instance" of an abortion necessary to save a woman's life. "There is no such exception as life of the mother, and as far as health of the mother, same thing."

Vice presidential nominee, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), mocking women's issues to a group of conservative donors: "Now it's a war on women; tomorrow it's going to be a war on left-handed Irishmen or something like that."

Presidential candidate, Gov. Mitt Romney, asked earlier this month whether insurance companies should be required to cover contraception: "Well it's a question as to, should you get a car painted, you know, red or blue. I mean you can decide which you'd like."

These are real quotes. These are real beliefs. This is real danger.

There are about 3 or 4 petitions to address Murdouch's comments about rape.

I am pleased that the police officer was dismissed (unless he claims unfair dismissal and wins) as he abused his job as a public servant to enter the bar and to abuse a member of the public. Any punishment should be more severe because of it.

I would argue with the judge that no woman (including her) should be allowed to leave their home as, if she is in a public place, then she is asking to be attacked. Of course, being in your own home (don't know how she would find or buy it) is also a reason to be raped or groped by a member of the police..........

I don't know how the US legal system works but here complaints can be made against a judge and it would be investigated if appropriate. I believe that judge Hatch should be suspended and investigated especially if there is some kind of prior relationship (she should not have been involved if there was).

Not only was justice not done but it was seen not to be done. This will prevent other women coming forward and is totally unacceptable.

This judge overturned a jury verdict in favor of her own personal opinions. She [the judge] took it farther by offering an admonition to the victim, implying that this victim caused the incident. If this is pursued, I have no doubt the decision will be over turned. That is one of the reasons for this petition; to promote public information and outrage, petitions do have an effect.

IT IS NEVER A WOMAN FAULT NEVER!!! How dare he say that he and others like him are one of the main reasons so many women and young girls dont report rape, the fear that they either wont be believed or that they will somehow be blamed its disgusting and CAN NOT be allowed this judge must be taken off his bench obviously he hasnt got the where with all to properly judge a case im flabbergasted just at a loss for words im so very mad! If that fake cop is such a little excuse for a man that he couldn't have gone in and whipped his wire to his mental image of the woman instead of committing felony assault and sexual battery of her, he should be drummed out of the state and forever be branded a sexual offender! The woman should quit the state too, for somewhere she'll be treated with respect! Sit on it and rotate, Hatch; I hope you end up sentenced to mandatory co-habitation with Evans!

In addition to all the points brought up by other posters, it occurred to me that if that cop was off duty, how come he could flash his badge and skip the cover charge; he was entering the bar as a civilian not as a cop doing police business. (Or if that WAS police business, this is even worse that we all thought!)

This judge not only, doesn't like women, she couldn't possibly like herself, coming down with such a ruling and making such an absurd statement.

Usually, MISERY LOVES COMPANY, which tells us that her homelife must be a disaster, and possibly always has been. t's arduous to have self-respect, when you are beaten down, repeatedly.

Now, we must ask ourselves, who was behind getting her this position.

He didn't flash himself which would have gotten him on the list, he actually physically assaulted the woman.Granted some women are large and could pack a whallop by punching this guys's lights out, the story doesn't say how much the woman weighed .Chances are bully boy picked on a petite woman.
To have this judge scold the woman about being in bars is old lady talk. Women have every right to be in a bar, tattoo parlor, car repair shop, hardware store, smoke shop , haberdashery, etc that men frequent. That doesn't mean they are to be assaulted.

This is all that is on the petition there is no need to be a member of Facebook, Care2 or any group to sign. I printed this out to mail to a few friends that will not sign petitions online. They signed and mailed it in - I don't know what was read to assume this is a Facebook petition but it is not. I did ask that people share it on Facebook or to Tweet this, but that was only a request. (Only 174 more signatures needed.)

Usually the petition sites offer space to make a personal comment.

I would so love to have asked judge Jacqueline Hatch how she would feel if she had been attacked in this way - which could, according to her, happen any time she leaves her fortified castle for an excursion to the outside, everyday world.

I try not to be vindictive - but the temptation is enormous to wish the experience on her, just so she could find out what she was talking about.

Yes the cop needs to be banned from the force, actually he needs to be in a place where he cannot endanger anybody else. Do you call that jail? I can live with that, before he gets the chance to go for anybody else's mothers, wives or daughters,

Another thought -

if this ex-cop, now he's free, goes handy-pally for Ms Brewer next, will she still support the judge she apppointed to the bench?

Please don't tell me American justice leads the world. That cop would be out of the force and behind bars here, checking out being on the receiving end of such attentions - and I doubt he would waste time appealing the sentence.

I think Faith, many of us would have liked to leave a comment to the judge.

The petition has met the first goal of 10,000 signatures and is now marching toward 15,000. Thanks to every one for all of your help.

Petition signed.

Jan Brewer needs to be given a lesson on what it feels like to be "groped" by a policeman...
Jan also needs to be booted out of the Gov. Office ASAP.

Did not like having a link to FB after signing the petition.
There are many of us in C2 that do not like FB.

Noted and signed Kit, thanks. Anything I could say about the judge and the police involved, has been said by previous commentators. Lesson to the victim, be careful of all men and some women in some bars.

I'm okay with 100 hours of community service for that cop... so long as every one of those hours is spent as the mock attacker in self-defence classes for women... and no padding is allowed, especially you know where...

As for the judge, send her to a warn-torn country, where she'll be forced to record the horror stories of every victim... if that doesn't teach her a little empathy and humanity, she's not worth saving...

I noticed some talk about the U.S. election. Instead of deciding between the false left-right paradigm, what about the guy that's not getting all the exposure that Obama & Romney are getting (because of the powerful elite control) Those 2 are twins, but Gov Gary Johnson sounds like a refreshing choice...just saying.

"IF" the cop hadn't been drinking to much to control his true nature there wouldn't have been a problem for this victim. Solution: REMOVE this judge from her high seat and have her go drinking with this cop. Bet she receives an ATTITUDE adjustment.

All petitions signed, Noted. Much thanks for posting, Kit--*Sorry I'm unable to send you a green star since I sent one in the past wk.
Those complete lunatics up in Maricopa County have hopefully buried any prospect of continuing their vile assaults. Have read there's a massive campaign to replace Arpaio in this election, and I hope they're successful...we're already getting "Phx-Creep" down here in Pima County. Fortunately, we have an already large and ever-growing Progressive force. I'm sure Gov. Brewski will be replaced at the next election. (BTW, a major reason she hasn't been ousted yet is because her automatic replacement is even worse than she is).

I do wonder what would have happened if that girl had physically struck back at him. (I like to think I wouldn't have hesitated to). Would she be jailed/fined for striking a cop? I noticed others referenced the judge in regards to the Taliban--I hope this is highlighted more often. That's exactly how rightwing patriarchal conservonuts are shifting the conversation throughout America. They go on FuxNoise and accuse Obama & Dems of fascism, Nazism, Muslim-loving, Taliban tactics which are the antithesis of the truth....then outright display these actions themselves, to the point of behaving like an American Taliban. Their vicious assaults on women has now moved from verbal abuse to actual physical assault....now being condoned by judges. Sometimes, it seems like we've shifted to an alternate universe. We can't stop pushing back, as hard and heavy as possible in every form we can. And, this disgusting judge has proven that it's not women v. men...she's chosen her side and should be widely condemned and removed.

Right on, Lois. Well said, I have noticed also, that the current attitude is very much like those of a time long past, or so we thought. This is a woman's rights issue, no doubt about that.

I second that, Kit... Excellent comment Lois! We need more people, from places that have to tolerate those extremist attitudes, to speak up and vote against putting the American Taliban types in office.

Well, how about I go into bars, find men who are being drunken jerks, and then kick them in the nuts! I will use the same excuse- if these men hadn't been in this bar, I wouldn't have kicked them in the nuts. So I should get pardoned, too, right???

I'm actually astonished, astounded, bewildered, bothered and just a bit confused those who think that woman's rights are nothing more than the right to an abortion. Are they really women, or just a deception, to wear away at the heart of equality for women?

Gladly signed! The judge's interference with ...er... justice.. is outrageous, as is the cop's action! Any law enforcement person who commits such misconduct does not deserve to be in any police & deserves punishment for such an action.

And what if the woman (or anybody, for that matter!) had been robbed - would the judge have said that it was her fault for being in a public place where theft is bound to happen?

Btw, I cannot forward Angie's message to me to promote this post & petition or even thank her, because I cannot send out any messages - my C2 messaging is not working for 'compose' or 'reply'. So sorry! Fortunately, I was able to sign.
