"Law-abiding citizens don't have anything to fear from the Klan," Ancona said, adding that if he saw a car being broken into, he would report the issue to police whether or not the car was owned by a white person.

The Ku Klux Klan is recruiting at Target.

The group left flyers on cars at the South County Target store complete with the KKK logo and drawings of figures in white hoods.

"We're bringing back the traditional ways of the Ku Klux Klan to the modern day!" the flyer reads.

Imperial Wizard/President Frank Ancona, of the Traditionalist American Knights Ku Klux Klan, said he didn't know exactly who handed out the flyers in South County today, but he says he isn't surprised.

"The reports I'm getting from the local people in that area (South St. Louis County) say that there's been an increase in black-on-white crime and robbery and child abductions," Ancona said. "People are really concerned. They'd like someone to come in and take a more aggressive stance."

Ancona said the Klan is dedicated to protecting residents from criminals, regardless of their race or ethnicity.

"Law-abiding citizens don't have anything to fear from the Klan," Ancona said, adding that if he saw a car being broken into, he would report the issue to police whether or not the car was owned by a white person.

Only about 20 flyers seemed to be on cars when Patch checked at about 2 p.m. today, and no Klan members were present. Affton-Southwest Police Captain Mike Dierkes said security from the Lindbergh Target checked the premises and found no one, but noticed the fliers.

The St. Louis County Police said Target has every right to refuse the KKK into their parking lot. The lot is considered private property with public access.

The flyers, which can be printed off of KKK websites, don't contain threatening or overtly hateful speech.

The flyers include a phone number for the 24-hour Klanline hotline, which introduces callars to the Klan with this message:

“We are unapologetically committed to the interests and values of the white race…The Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is simply a movement of white people for the highest standards of Western Christian civilization.”

In October, the KKK was planning to handbill cars in Arnold:

I would honestly be appalled if I ever found KKK information on my car. However, as long as they have whatever local permits might be required, it is their right to provide information. On the other hand, that phone message sure sounds like hate speech to me.

Since Obama took Office as the President of United States of America,
death threats against him increased 400%.

Looks like the KKK is out recruiting for new members. Despite their claim that they are
"protecting" citizens against crime. Their phone message says otherwise.

Looks like racism continues to be alive and well.

Ty, Kit.

Was there ever a time when racism was not alive and doing well in this country?

Perhaps on the first Thanksgiving? If only the Native Americans had known......

It's the "downside" of freedom of speech.

Far preferable to the constipated "anti-hate speech" laws of Europe, though.

It most likely is Angelika, protected free speech.

First time I ever heard of the KKK claiming to be law abiding vigilantes defending all against crime without regard to race or ethnicity...is this the area where the klan leadership got dismantled by prison terms in 2009 or 2010?

Makes my stomach turn with anger and pity. With so much racism, nationalism and protectionism running rampant in this country these days I'm surprised they still need to recruit, I figured people would be going to them like locusts. Go figure. Thanks Kit.

Why does hate seem to make a person feel bigger, taller, stronger, etc., etc.?

I never did have much use for the republican party but I do wish for the ol--days. Today the party is made up of the KKK---teabirchers---and the American taliban and it has just gotten worse and worse whereas the leaders are members of one or all of the aforementioned.

It's too bad that people fall for their fascist, infantile rhetoric. The give the white portion of the human race a bad name just as others within their ethnic spectrum do to theirs. It's too bad we couldn't find a way to remove from society these kiddie diddlers and purveyors of porn and stupidity, hate and violence in the name of this god or that political/religious ideology. Hate is the driving force behind the rage of psychopathic little children who outside a group mentality feel they have no control or power over or within their lives. They live in constant fear of their leaders and of those outside the cult organization mentality. Does that in some small way answer your question Mary S.?

from Nancy: "I would honestly be appalled if I ever found KKK information on my car" So would I, Nancy - and I'm not sure what I would do. First thought was to shred it into a zillion pieces and fling it back at them for all the good that would do. Maybe I'd just take the pamphlet into the Target and ask the manager if Target endorsed that kind of thinking....

Good point. If they did, then you know one more place to boycott. Even if it is just local. espeically if it is just local.

Why acknowledge the KKK and other Hate groups? It's impossible to "insulate" ourselves from reality, and hate groups are real. The most effective way dispelling their lies and messages of hate is education. Know who they are what they are doing and most important is to know their goals.

Why get upset it is only "HUMANS DOING WHAT HUMANS DO BEST HATEING" an in time one of these nut job hate groups will get there hands on an atom bomb an light it off an "THEN AN ONLY THEN THERE WILL BE PEACE ON EARTH" so why get upset just look for the light this is why I have wash my hands of humans I am so sick of all of this hate an killing humans do not know how to "LOVE" I think Mother Nature made a big mistake when she made humans an put them on the top of the food chain a cat would do a better job that's why cats an all animals do a better job at loving an caring than humans an we call ourselves the smartness living thing on earth "NOT" do you see a cat wearing a white cone on it's head waving a sign saying I hate black cats. So humans keep on doing what we are doing an we will blow ourselves off the face of this earth an Mother Nature will rebuild the earth an she will not add humans to the new earth boy this sound so sad "BUT SO TRUE". =^..^=

Argh!!! Green star to Kit - others attempted to be given to Arielle S and Michael K and others - but the computer won't let me yet. I would be heading to the nearest Manager of such a place with steam coming out of my ears - and bending his ear so that he knew that a complaint would be heading to head office about his toleration of racism and fascism! Few of these people like to risk their promotion prospects by going publicly against decent members of the public!

Ahhhhh the hairs just stood straight up on my body when I read your headline on this story Kit....creepy!!!!!
I was a child in the 1950's in N.Y.C and my parents got "life" magazine every week... I was strongly influenced by awful photos of the aftermath of a KKK burning or hanging... I have been a civil and human rights champion ever since........... Extremism in ALL it's forms is so very dangerous.......
Peace on Earth and goodwill to men/women !!!

KKK are a stain on the soul of America. Bigoted racists should have no place in society.
