WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The White House’s attempt to portray President Obama as a gun user may have had unintended consequences today, as a newly released photo of Mr. Obama firing a rifle at Camp David set off a panic of gun buying across the US.

Right-wing opponents of Mr. Obama were behind the frenzied gun sales, saying that they were terrified by the image of an armed and shooting President.

“I don’t want to sound paranoid or anything, but now everything Obama has been doing makes sense,” said Harland Dorrinson, who was waiting on a blocks-long line outside a West Virginia Wal-Mart. “He wants to take away all our guns and then he’s going to come shoot us.”

Learning that Mr. Obama only uses his rifle for skeet-shooting did little to calm Mr. Dorrinson: “Somebody owning a gun just for sporting purposes? Yeah, right.”

In an effort to stem the panic, White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters today that skeet-shooting took up relatively little of the President’s time at Camp David, and that his favorite leisure activities were “actually badminton and frisbee.”

The White House later released a photo of Mr. Obama putting away his gun and never using it again.

This satire - humor and not meant to be taken seriously. Though where there is good satire there just might be a gain of truth.

This photo shows very poor taste after the recent shootings, regardless of the story.

Be afraid -- be very afraid! I didn't know the President was African American -- and with a gun!!! Oh Oh!

Kit B. (276)
Sunday February 3, 2013, 7:38 am

Ah, yes Lee, that's the hidden secret, he is really African American, and occasionally does shoot skeet. That is done with a shot gun, and skeet are made of clay. So do be afraid.

There are probably a few Tea Party members who should be afraid.... Hey, I wonder if we could make bullets that dissolved when you put them in the gun? Or maybe make them out of jello? That would solve a lot of issues, wouldn't it? (Maybe Mr. Borowitz is contagious?)

Kit B. (276)

Yuck, Jello is a gross sticky mess, but washable paint might do. Andy is contagious, and funny. As Bill Maher might say, that black Obama army is finally coming to get THEM. Don't I wish.

President Obama can shoot all the skeet he wants! Last I heard, they weren't an endangered species, were incapable of suffering fear or pain, and didn't have grieving family members to leave behind.

According to the Daily Klos, "Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who accidentally shot Texas attorney Harry Whittington during a 2006 quail-hunting trip, told FOX News that he thinks that armed school guards are a "more effective deterrent" to gun violence in schools than anything that President Obama supports."

That's right, foks! Five-deferment Cheney accidentally shot a hunting partner right in the kisser --inflicting some serious damage and causing the victim to suffer a heart attack-- and ended up getting an apology from the poor victim! And now he's advocating that we have more guns in schools? Didn't he learn anything from his own experience (or should I say "lack of experience"?) What a messed (not my first word of choice, but more appropriate for a grandmother) up country we live in.

Yep, you don't need a gun to be a "real" American or "real" man etc.

I agree with Susanne that Dick Cheney takes hypocrisy - and other outrageous behavior - to new levels.

Kit B. (276)
Sunday February 3, 2013, 6:38 pm

He also owns a large part of CCA - one of, if not the leading private prison system in the US. So it behooves him to keep guns out there, and criminals filling his coffers. Cheney - leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Here is an appropriate comment that I made on Yahoo.

Our forefathers and foremothers paid a heavy price for the freedoms we often take for granted. Do not think we are immune to what happened in these other countries?

Most of us know what is going on in Washington. The attempt to take away our weapons is simply the beginning unless we wake up and pay the price to continue our freedoms. Yet it is not the beginning which actually goes back several elections gone by.

There is a fable about a man who left his camel outside his tent. I may not be following the story exactly but I do the meaning. The camel put his head inside the tent. That seemed reasonable so the man allowed it. The camel put his forefeet into the tent. Oh, well, let him have his way. It's not hurting me. The man went to sleep. When he awoke the camel
was inside the tent and the man was outside.

Let's all wake up before it's too late.

Why shouldn't President Obama be allowed to use a gun? Many law-abiding citizens own and use guns safely for hunting and other sporting activities. Guns are used in several Olympic sports; should they be banned?

Kit B. (276)
Sunday February 3, 2013, 7:13 pm

By the stance, I'd say he knows how to handle his shotgun. Like anyone one else Obama has a right to own a gun. This short article is political humor, that is what Andy Borowitz does, satire.

@ Dana W --- If I have your comment correctly, nobody is talking about banning guns in general. The talk is about reasonable gun control and banning assault weapons and large magazines. Please get that straight because perpetuating a lie, like the NRA's Wayne LaPierre and his cronies are doing, just leads to anger and divisiveness.

If anybody would like a good laugh (or a good cry, depending on your take), watch this short video "Gun Fails: A Comprehensive Collection To Commemorate 'Gun Appreciation' Day " that is contained in Tom Cat's blog under 'MoveOn' about a week ago.

This smacks of conspiracy.. If you look closely you can see it's a right-handed shotgun but he's shooting it left-handed.
And 'skeet' shooting, where I come from they call them skeeters, and you don't use a shotgun to kill them, you use lotion.

And 'clay' pigeons? I hate to break the news but pigeons are living breathing real creatures. They eat crumbs and pieces of potato chips in U.S. cities. And they all go "coo, coo". What's next? 'clay' turkeys? As I said, it all smacks of conspiracy foisted by Obama on the American public.

Thanks for the elucidation Kenneth! ;-) We have enough turkeys in Washington at present so why waste money on clay ones.

People are laughing at the political gaffe. Skeet shooting? No Obama wants defenseless America. the opposition wants that we buy what we want. It is a consumer issue. How would you like to go to buy a new car and the dealer told you he could only sell Model T's?

Kit B. (276)
Monday February 4, 2013, 11:49 am

First - Scott again you prove yourself to be an ill informed, knuckle dragging troglodyte.
Defenseless America? We have at least 300 million guns in a country of 310 million people, what are you smoking?

I can shoot a left or right hand shot gun as can many people.

I don't know about Canada, Kenneth but I have shot Skeet for years and they are CLAY - though some call them pigeons, I have yet to see any one shooting skeet that were made of anything but clay.

Omg, it was tongue in cheek. So much for humor on a satirical article thread.

Kenneth L. (314)

Btw, in Canada we use pine cones to vote with, we run on 23 hour days, the highest education you can get is Grade 11, we are a landlocked country which is why we have no Navy, we have only propeller-driven airplanes, woolly mammoth stampedes in downtown Calgary every summer, our leader is Chief Gordon Lightfooot, Toronto is downtown Canada....
NOW do you believe me when I say Obama in this photo is obvious proof of a conspiracy according to the reasons I posted?

Kenneth I assumed your comment was sarcasm, most of that was directed to other comments. I do believe you just might find a few Wooly Mammoths wandering in the far north Yukon territories, I knew that Toronto was downtown in Canada, and that no other cities exist, I watched the Murdoch Mysteries.
