Take Action: Keep Abortion Safe and Legal

Governor Perry added legislation related to abortion to the agenda for this month’s Special Session. Not one bill targeting safe, legal abortion passed in the Regular Session, and now Governor Perry is playing politics with women’s health by forcing this issue onto the Legislature’s fast-tracked agenda. Please join us and act now to protect Texas women’s access to safe, legal abortion.

Abortion is a deeply personal and often complex decision for a woman. Ultimately, decisions about whether to choose adoption, end a pregnancy, or raise a child are best left to a woman, her family, and her faith, with the counsel of her doctor or health care provider. To protect their health and the health of their families, women must have access to safe, legal abortion without interference from politicians.

There's strength in numbers: Take action and tell Governor Perry to focus on pressing education and economic issues, not on interfering with women’s private medical decisions.

Please show your solidary with the women of Texas - sign and share. Thank you.

Thank you for fighting for women in Texas! I grew up in Fort Worth, and when I go back, I feel as if I've entered the twilight zone. My mother died, the state was gerrymandered, and Molly Ivins is gone. This latest change--taking away women's rights to make their own healthcare decisions has increased my sense of alienation from the state. I was proud of the history of the State, but that has turned to ashes in my mouth. More and more states are falling the way Texas fell, and in time, this will be a one party country like Russia. People have to wake up and put a stop to the insanity before it's too late. The men who want to own America are not like Eisenhower or Lincoln; the men are vampires who will suck every last drop of blood out the American people, and when they are finished with Americans, they will move on to the people of other countries. Oh, but wait a minute, they have already begun to do just that. Look at what has happened to Greece, Spain, and all the others. I'm not sure if signing petitions can stop the tsunami of greed, but I will pray that it can.

This is a Woman's Issue.....what happens to one woman happens to us all. If it is allowed to continue then it is only a matter of time before no woman has any rights left.

I do not want to go back to those "bad" old days. I'm old enough to recall the horror stories of women dying on kitchen tables under the hands of some butcher and those who died in bathtubs from a coat hanger method.

Bryna, you speak a lot of Truth there. There is the creep of taking over by some sinister mind thought and it isn't as you say, the Eisenhower type of Party thought. In fact he warned of that which is taking place when it does come to the ongoing wars and a few making money off of wars.

People think that they live in America that it can't happen here. Remember there is nothing written in stone that states that fact. In fact it's due to that thinking that it can't happen here that too many believe; that we have this "taking over" right under so many noses.

There is a reason that women are under attack.

“A nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then it is done, no matter how brave its warriors or strong its weapons.”
Cheyenne Nation

Noted and signed...thanks Kit. Absolutely NOT just a Texas issue. Legislators are doing their best to deny women their rights in Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. All these states have one thing in common...legislatures with Republican majorities. Denying a woman her right to choose is a core issue of theirs.

This is 100% a petition about freedom and choice.
No one that can not determine the out come of their own life is free.

The petition requires only a US postal code, not a Texas address.
Thank you for signing and caring. This is not just for women, we need the support of good men.

Petition signed with a CA address.

Male politicians need to stay out of a woman's vagina and mind their own business.
Women are intelligent regarding their own health issues including abortion.

Planned Parenthood's work at the local and national level, where Planned Parenthood provides clinical services, comprehensive, accurate health information, and works to ensure universal access to quality, affordable health care.

Abortion plays a very small part in the overall picture of Family Planning.

We all do not want to go back to the olden days of back alley "bloody coat-hanger" abortions.

PETITION: Peace Corps volunteers deserve equal access to abortion coverage
The late Senator Frank Lautenberg introduced a bill that would extend access to abortion to women in the Peace Corps. PETITION:

Just a note to anyone who thinks this is an issue only for those who are not religious. This is a part of the petition being sent by being sent to Texas Catholics:

As a Catholic and a constituent, I urge you to oppose all restrictions to abortion access during the special session, and I further ask you to do everything in your power to ensure that leadership in the legislature does the same. I do not want my elected officials to spend this special session restricting abortion access. There are real emergencies, in need of real solutions, facing the state right now—including the suffering imposed by the legislature when it last restricted reproductive healthcare access.

Signed, took out "Texas." I have yet to hear that the church plans to strip St. Thomas Aquinas of his sainthood or of his title "Doctor of the Church" because he supported abortion. I suppose that is coming, but hope I am wrong.

So many men seem to want to have recreational sex as often as possible, but when they don't have to pay the consequences, it is easy for them to preach morality. This is a tough issue, and I'm not sure why the government is involved in it anyways.

I guess the only way to solve this problem is for people to have sex ONLY when they want to bear children, and not at all for pleasure. What do you think, guys...?

Noted and signed. Thanks, Kit. Now if they would just teach facts in sexual education instead of all the crap they've been "teaching" since the Shrub was in office. Women are more likely to make healthy decisions if they have facts to work with, and not the fantasy Texan schools have been pushing.

I unfortunately had to sign under WA state but I stand with women globally for the right to make their own decisions about their healthcare. I have heard rumblings here in Canada to abolish abortion or make it much more difficult. Canada maybe an upcoming battleground for women's rights.

Read somewhere that with the new rules and regulations put forth all but 5 facilities in the state will close because upgrades to conform are too expensive. Screams inadequacy.

Find it hard to believe that standardizing health and safety requirements across the board, which benefit ALL women involved ... licensed doctors with hospital privileges, certified "assistants", sterile and fully equipped working facilities, open entrance/exit access, hallways wide enough to accommodate litters in case transport to hospital becomes necessary, etc. ... how can they not want that?
