Jim Henson

Through his beloved Muppets, Jim Henson was one of the first teachers many of us had—and certainly one of the most memorable.

"Kids don't remember what you try to teach them. The remember what you are."

WoW.!! This is a great post, Kit. So enjoyed reading the quotes, and the background info of each person. My favorite section is: 11 American Teachers Who Rocked History. Can't forget Ann Richards in the quote section either. Took action too. (I'm volunteering at my 'old' middle school again this year). Thank you.!!!

Thanks Pat I'm glad you liked this as did I. I love working in schools, I guess that explains we were both teachers.

All of these quotes are great. Taylor Mali also still makes me cry.

Kit, thank you and Pat for your teaching, and also any other Care2 members who are teachers.

I'm weeping! Thank you so very much, Kit. Teaching is an honor and a privilege. I tell my students that we are actually just servers. We serve the buffet, and it's up to them to do the work. In addition, I'm teaching college students which is very different from teaching in public schools. We must support our children's and grandchildren's teachers. (s, n, p, t)

Love the quotes and yes there are some talented and dedicated teachers out there. Now all we have to do is to fund public education in the manner it deserves.

The damage done to education in recent years will indeed have costs to society and the taxpayer in lost economic activity and more dysfunctional adults for many years to come. Thanks Kit for the marvelous range of quotes reminding us of the core foundations for good education.

In praise of teachers ! I love love love so many in my past ~ for not only who were they were, but what they were capable of doing. Teachers should hold the highest of honor and compensation, and it's a sorry ass culture that doesn't understand this.

Great quotes, Kit! Thanks for posting them. I remember reading a bumper sticker once that said, "If you can read this, thank a teacher." Not quite as profound as some of the quotes you provided but certainly giving credit where credit is due.
