Unfortunately, the facility is not "no-kill."

Please take a moment to share on this dog's behalf. Just because he has a black coat, does not mean that he should be overlooked and forgotten.

What colour is your coat has nothing to do with character! I had two black dogs, I lost one last November & they are the nicest dogs I could of ever had. I pray this beautiful dog gets the attention from a loving person so he can shower them with all the love he has to give. He deserves a forever loving home. Thanks Sophia for posting his story. I forward to my friends.

Thanks Sophia and Henriette for sharing! I hope he finds a loving home. I agree with you Henriette - what has the color to do with anything? Never heard of "black dog syndrome"

Why do people always judge others (In this case this little sweet dog) by their color!?

May the Almighty give her a loving home.

i have always been partial to black animals., be it dogs, cats or wolves. they are beautifully mysterious. superstition is all b.s. what does the color of one's coat or color of one's skin have anything to do with who they are? my animals come in all colors, so do my friends, and i love all of them. thank you, henreitte and sophia. noted, shared and forwarded.

OK - all of us, whenever we see a black animal - tell others that they are lucky animals! Start the rumour and get it spreading now - because we are fighting a rumour that some dumb a**e has started that is risking these poor animals lives! Put labels beside black cats or black dogs wanting rescue saying 'Lucky cats' or whatever - if people believe it then it will happen!

(There was another link on that page to a black GSD about to be put down that day - so unbearably wretched, God bless the poor dog. Stop people breeding animals when there are so many rescues needing homes!).

Black-dog bias
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A rescued BBD (Big Black Dog) from Atlantic Canada

Black dog bias is a veterinarian and animal shelter phenomenon in which black dogs are passed over for adoption in favor of lighter-colored animals.[1] Black dog bias is also known as "big black dog syndrome." Shelters often use the term BBD, or big black dog, to describe the type of larger dark-colored mixed-breed typically passed over by adopters.

The phenomenon may be due to a number of factors, including fear stigma against certain breed types, and the fact that large, black dogs are often portrayed as aggressive in film and on television.

Some people believe that during the pet adoption process some potential owners associate the color black with evil or misfortune (similar to the common superstition surrounding black cats), and this bias transfers over to their choice of dog.[1] Additionally, many shelters feature photo profiles of their dogs on the shelter website. Because black dogs do not photograph well, lighter-colored dogs have an advantage with potential adopters browsing the site.[1] A study done by the Los Angeles Animal Services challenges some of these claims, saying that a full 28% of adopted dogs are black. However, the bias theory simply asserts that predominantly dark animals take longer to be adopted than their lighter counterparts, and that large dogs take longer to adopt than small ones.[2]

However, appearance in general does play a role in potential adopters' selection of shelter dogs. In a 2011 study by the ASPCA, appearance was the most frequently cited reason for adopters of both puppies (29 percent) and adult dogs (26 percent).[3]

What uuter NONSENSE! I hope this beautiful little guy gets a home ASAP!!! PEOPLE are the flippin' freaks!

Isn't there anyone to foster him temperarely if its a kill shelter and than take time to find him a forever home. In Holland they also have a black cat syndrome, these are the once that never get out.
