"There are no rules in place and nothing to protect the independent producer," Callicrate said. "Industrialized food is killing us. We've never had such a food safety problem as we have now.

Thanks Cowboss. I feel blessed to have 2 chest freezers. It is difficult for anyone on a limited budget to make a switch to sustainable food products, but steps taken slowly over time make it possible. Living in an apartment with no option to garden should not impede one's ability to buy sustainable produce. CSAs abound in the summer time and if there is no freezer space for some things, people can preserve or ferment produce for use in the winter. Buying sustainably farmed meat is more difficult without a freezer, but even that does not need to be an impediment for the resourceful. No need to go sustainable all the way if you can't; every little bit helps.

Everyone needs good food. It is a shame that the big supermarkets do not offer more organic choices at better prices, as if they all did this, and made such produce more widely available, the prices would be more affordable. I can't comment on the meat side of things, as I have been veggie for many years.
