Another Bush Stooge for Attorney General?

Mukasey stated that both the administration's program of eavesdropping without warrants & its use of "enhanced" interrogation techniques for terrorism suspects might be acceptable under the Constitution. Here's the new boss, same as the old boss!

This is what bothers me particularly: Mr. Mukasey still seemed almost certain to win Senate confirmation. Said Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee: “I think you are virtually certain to be confirmed, and we’re glad to see the appointment and glad to see somebody who is strong, with a strong record, take over this department.”

Read the entire story for all of the caveats associated with this appointment. We the people just CANNOT win in this neocon slaughter.

“The president is not putting somebody above the law; the president is putting somebody within the law,” said Mr. Mukasey, who seemed uncomfortable with the aggressive tone, occasionally stumbling in his responses. “The president doesn’t stand above the law. But the law emphatically includes the Constitution.”

Huh?...Ummmm, come again?! Once more with clarity please?
This is the purest form of Newspeak and Doublespeak I've
ever heard!
"occasionally stumbling in his responces"?
Yes, I can see how it would be difficult to speak
when you've tied your own tongue into a knot!

Catem this story is a total 180 from a story from
day before yesterday where Mukasey responces were
at total variance with know Bush-Policy, and let me
to comment, "How on EARTH did this man get nominated?"
It then occured to me that, on WEednesday, Mukasey was
telling the Senate what he knew they wanted to hear.
This man is a duplicitous Bush toadie, and though he
isn't even A.G. yet, I already distrust him....but then,
bottomline, he IS a lawyer, after all!

Q: What do a lawyer and a sperm cell have in common?
A: They both have a one-in-a-million chance of becoming
a human being.

Thanks, Cate.

Noted, Cate. The unmitigated gall of nominating this man! If the Senate approves this, then a plague fall upon them! Guess Cheney has a file on every Senator and some have opted, in recent months, to free themselves of what he has been using to control them by announcing it or causing it to be announced. Sorry--terible sentence structue! I am virtually certain he will be confirmed. Take names and prepare to kick butts in the upcoming elections and every chance you get for those who vote for this intolerable replacement for the intolerable AG before him.

I wonder why the Democrats are so eager to confirm him? Maybe the same reason they don't want to impeach Bush and Cheney? Has he promised to help the Democrats keep impeachment off the table?
