A heartwarming look at how the abused dogs formerly belonging to that cowardly abuser are being rescued. Inspiring reading and great pictures too.

It's amazing to me that of the 49 dogs seized from this scumsucker, only 2 had to be euthanized - one because after diligent evaluation it was found to be just too vicious to be rehabilitated, and another because it was very ill and in pain.

Don't miss the wonderful slideshow detailing the journey back to health and love for these deserving dogs.

Thanx Cate. Very interesting and informative. Each of the video/picture chapters is well done and each of the rescue areas/homes give their stories. Very worth the time.

Noted with thanks, Cate.
It is heartwarming to see these innocent dogs get the kind of life they have always deserved. What a day of celebration it will be when dogs (and all animals) will no longer be subjected to the horrific life of fighting.

I have been keeping track of the Vicktory Dogs since they arrived at Best Friends. I wish all those paranoid pro-BSL freaks (yeah I am talking about PETA) could see these dogs as they truly are--not as the 'mean, evil, vicious, mindless, ravenous killer' pit bulls that the media always loves to hype and mythmake about. These dogs are beautiful, even with their scarred up faces and bodies, they are beautiful in spirit. They can forgive, unlike human beings. These Vicktory Dogs are also PROOVING that 'fighting' dogs are not irredeemable, euthanasia fodder. They have brains, they have intelligence and they have big hearts...and they can forgive and they can learn new ways to live. They know the difference between abuse and love. They respond to love.

I wish I could adopt one of them but already having a pit bull and 3 other large dogs, it is out of the question for me. I hope they do get adopted but then I hope and pray that the people they adopt them to has the knowledge, understanding and ability to care for these particular pit bulls. I would be just as happy if they all live out their lives at Best Friends sanctuary because they are truly loved and well cared for there.

Having been fighters and bait dogs, these dogs will probably never be able to live in multi-dog homes--why set them up for failure! They would be best placed in one-dog-only homes without small children and with well fenced yards. But they CAN be placed. It just has to be with the right 'family'.

I love Best Friends for all that they do, not just with the Vicktory Dogs but with all the animals they rescue and care for. They are the best!

Thanks, Cate. I have been keeping up with the Vick dogs and it is totally amazing and heartwarming to know that almost every one of them responded well to rehabilitation and are doing well.

Compliments to U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson. Thanks to him the dogs were given a second chance instead of being euthanized, and look at them now.

Thank you Cate. I had followed this also and have been delighted with
the results. It just goes to prove that it isn't the dog, it's the
handler.

Thanks also to Trudi for mentioning Judge Hudson.

Most definitely to all. Let's just be real and fair and expand the mind. This rediculous "act" has been going on now for yearsssss! all around the world by various different groups of people with varios different creatures. America/The West (primarily) is famous for doing inhuman "things" to Humans!!, and animals such as dog fighting, cock fighting, and the likes. Oh yeah, not to mention the system of how our food is gathered, prepared, and distributed. Stop using M. Vick as the only scape "goat" and focus on those in your own community and neighborhoods. Otherwise, it simply appears as though there is some "underlying" reason for continously and harshly attacking him that most wish not to name or deal with! Be Real and Be Well*

Peace*

Khalil, cruelty towards animals is a global problem. There is not 1 country in the world without animal cruelty. The same for human rights.
It comes in different shapes, but it's there on every continent.
Most of the people noting this news are globally fighting against injustice towards living creatures.
And about Michael Vick:he is known all over the world for his career, and ofcourse he gets mentioned a lot after the dogfightings. That does not mean that other people being involved with dogfighting are less criminal.

As an analyst for an NFL website who has looked up to football players since childhood, I couldnt be happier that this gutless worm was exposed for what he is. Good to see other football players like Jason Taylor doing spots on TV for the SPCA in responce to Vick's cowardice. I believe it was Ghandi who stated that you can learn a lot about a society by the way they treat their animals.

A message I received from:

Virginians for Animal Welfare

Alert 7/7/08 Vick Dogs, Meeting Minutes, Meeting Correction

Vick Dogs
There is a wonderful long article about the Vick dogs with good photos in today's Washington Post.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/06/AR2008070602351.html?hpid=topnews

There are reasons to say thank you to many involved in the transformation of the Vick dogs, but none of this would have happened without the action of U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson who ordered each dog to be evaluated (see paragraph 3 of the article) individually.

Please thank Judge Hudson. Unfortunately, there is no public email address we have been able to find, but there is a fax.
His fax: 804-916-2216

His US mail address:
The Honorable Judge Henry E. Hudson, U. S. District Judge
U. S. District Court, Eastern Virginia
1000 E. Main Street; Suite 112
Richmond, VA 23219

Or write a letter to the editor in your local paper and thank him there.

Please continue your vigilance against animal fighting. It still hurts incredibly to read in this article of some specifics - like the Vick dog Mike-Mike who lost after fighting for three hours and five minutes. Can you imagine fighting that long? Can you imagine the pain and horror? And the article does not say what happened to the dog after he lost. Remember, Mr. Vick isn't the only person who gloried in dogfighting. It continues today. You can help eliminate.

If there are stories to tell about successes, please send them on. If there are instances where failures took place for lack of manpower or funding, send those on as well. This is a battle we can all fight.

This story is about how Vick's dogs are doing now Khalil. Has nothing to do about anything else. The man is a scumbag for what he did and if you don't like it, don't bother coming here with your meaningless comment. We are here happy about these dogs and don't need such a negative remark. Thanks for the pictures and update Cate.

Thank you for this heart-warming story - these dogs are beautiful - and so too are the people who have helped to rehabilitate them to such a wonderful extent!
What a contrast to the miserable specimens, such as Vick - who can cause such suffering!

I am so happy that these dogs were saved and adopted and are now loved! I hope the world will learn to see pitties in a different light. They are NOT vicious dogs unless trained that way. I love them!
