A new tracking system quietly introduced by the Homeland Security Department is now storing the land border crossing of all US citizens for fifteen years. What are they looking for?

You'd think they'd be spending money on keeping track of who's trying to enter the country.
But Government here isn't much better.
Balkenende is so far up Bush's behind he's way beyond a brown nose, he lost his entire head.

Well needless to say.. if they put cameras in ones bathroom..that would be not only intrusive..but terribly wrong..However..and more realistically speaking..I really don't see the issue with these privacy concerns..Unless of course someone has something to hide..
But that's just me..

H.R. 3525 is not a panacea, but it is a tough, common-sense law that sends the right message: The United States must regain control over our borders and our ports of entry, and we expect our border control agencies to carry out their duty to protect our nation and our citizens from those who seek to exploit our generosity. Ironically, President Bush himself tried unsuccessfully to dilute this message by forcing Congress to attach a de facto amnesty to the measure.

Cate...they're looking for me and my companion when we leave the US if McCain is elected...

Seriously, there are pros to this tracking system, but I'm sure our beloved government will find a way to work it against innocent citizens.

Why don't they run the country instead of our lives...?

Dee, you have never lived in a totalitarian country before have you? I have. What happened there is happening here only this time around with new and improved toyz.

Loss of one's privacy is not about 'doing something wrong'. It about absolute control. To control a populations' thoughts, words and actions. To be constantly watched for any 'perceived' deviation from their 'norm'. And their norm today will not be the norm tomorrow. Today they may let you buy a certain cookbook, something bland and harmless to your thinking and then the very next day come out and proclaim that particular book is 'unpatriotic', 'against national security' or 'terroristic' and that all 'good' citizens should 'report' any and all persons who own or possess such book. Meanwhile they already know who you are and what you possess--records, CCTV, checkpoints, etc. So what they want is for other citizens to turn on their neighbors, their parents, their spouses, their children, their co-workers. Get it???? CONTROL through FEAR and DIVISION. I lived that nightmare, soon you will come to understand that horror. I wish I were wrong, but I am not.

If you think our government has only our safety and 'security' at heart, you are sadly mistaken. They have and always will have their OWN best interests at heart and those interests are WEALTH and POWER.

Ben Franklin knew what he was talking about when he said, 'Those that would trade liberty for safety deserve neither liberty nor safety'.

After FINALLY getting myself a passport = No $$ to go anywhere = no reason to go anywhere = Maybe I should just turn it back in - but I won't get a refund that's for sure, just into the government coffers to keep an eye on me.

I used to be able to go in and out of Canada many years ago. Now, I find that I need a passport to enter Canada and to re-enter USA.

Aside from just the above quirk, I am not thrilled with the increased intrusions into my life nor for any normal (what is normal) citizen's life.

There will be always something that will invariably go wrong with the data collecting system. After all, it is man-made...

TY, Cate.

At least you got a passport Lynne. I paid for expedited service on Feb 19th and still have no passport....I guess the fact that my Canadian birth certificate has no identifying (I was adopted) information on it is a problem to Homeland Security or is it the State Department. Too much government interference and lack of communication is a big problem for me.....

Thanks Terri for that great explanation on "loss of freedom." I've tried to explain this to my daughter when she says "as long as one hasn't done anything wrong, what is there to worry about." As a Canadian..got my passport three years ago as I knew there would be a rush and I have a son and grandchildren in Texas to visit. Usually go to the States by car and they take a picture of your license plate at the border(but think they have done this for years) and now have to show a passport. Wonder what's next....fingerprints and/or ????

I completely agree with Terri. If people do a bit of research (not talking what people hear on news or watch on tv- those are all owned by corporations) on independent sites/media, they will find a growing trend slowly removing our Bill or Rights. The justification is terrorism (there is actually strong scientific evidence that 9/11 was a pre-planned inside job)

It looks like this may be a global initiative; China and Malaysia are on board: http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=how-rfid-tags-could-be-used&page=4

Homeland security is just plain Bull Sh,,! They have been taking our rights away with fear and lies. Under them are WE secure. Hell no, we are the ones losing our rights. Our airport is ridiculous. Takes forever. Yet a military man, not in uniform, drove into the back of our airport saying he was picking up someone and they didn't question him the entire time he drove around. What they didn't know was he was an officer in charge of security in Iraq. He was so flippin mad he went to the newspapers and when they investigated it proved true. Hell, don't guard the backdoors, just the front. Like if I were a terrorist, I am going in the front??? Now we have xrays that show everything and way beyond just checking for arms. This is my body and they don't have the right to do this. We are like sheep! Oh if it makes it safe, it's all okay. Use your head, it isn't okay. This still somewhat resembles the United States and I still have a few rights left. Anyone can bring down a plane or blow up a building and it was done long before 9/11. One ground to air missile brought down a plane on the east coast and then it got very quiet about it and no one said anything more. Buildings, like the Federal Bldg in OK. Terrorist? No one of our own. Use some sense. Bush has used nothing but words and fear. We can't name the all the lies he has told us and yet we seem to believe all this bs on terrorism. He is the damn terrorist and is controlling all of us. I am beginning to feel like I am in Germany in 1940. Whatever you say about Hitler, his bs worked also to control his people. Hate against so many people, building up a "master" race. I wish you could see it for what it is. Everyone hates Mexicans and yet they have never done anything to us except work the jobs we won't do. How many of us were paranoid and jumping on anyone that even looked like they may be from the middle east. Four young doctors were too dark for their own good and got picked up going to a convention a few months after 9/11. All the middle east got blamed for a group of invisible terrorists and they paid the price with their lives or being arrested or detained. This country has been crazy since Bush got in. After McVay bombed the Federal Bldg, we didn't go out and go after all white people. Bush side tracks us and takes our rights away and feeds the paranoid idiots that believe just this part of what he says. HE IS A LIAR, plain and simple
