Thoughtful, informative piece on the transition from Herbert Hoover to Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the midst of America's arguably greatest crisis. Will this model help our next president as he inherits the carnage of the current administration?

Of course there are many factors in today's world that add layers of complications to the passing of the presidential mantle. Ours is a much more globally-sophisticated and globally-challenged time, and the evolution of technology on all levels has changed forever the way most of us live. But studying Roosevelt's philosophy and actions as he stepped into his leadership of America might bring a steadying influence to that same process today.

Only in America do I have such 'freedom' to have a right to an opinion, and oh yes there is debate, but I can have my say:

"The Titanic has been struck by the deadly iceberg, and now we may switch 'captains', but to what avail?"

"The national and global situations are now traveling well outside of the hope for any presidential candidate of becoming a 'Superman', so do not vote with this delusion in mind, but still vote - intelligently!"

"There is 'no' parade for change!"

What you realy need is superman who can repair the damage, global damage.....i think US citizens will be Persona non grata just like the Icelanders! The real money of the world has been payed for hot air made in the USA. And now its all gone...ask GWB where the regulators have been.......maybe on some kind of vacation with the wallstreet gangsters!

Times have changed and no single country will solve this......unite or die...

Although I think the best overall solutions have come from the Green party, this is still, unfortunately, a two party country. In the final debate Obama's solution made the most sense: Tax companies that send jobs out of the country, tax breaks for companies that create jobs here, creation of a green power system for the country which would employ hundreds of thousands of workers, and a new health care system which would prevent over half the bankruptcy cases in this country. I think we have given the 'trickle down theory' plenty of time to work - it doesn't!

This is a little bit different; we are having a Boston Tea Party AND a Crash of '29 all at once. Hans is right. No single country will solve this. Whoever is president, will have to think globally, and that pretty much limits who we are talking about.

The stage has been set, I think, for the write off of all debt, and creation of one universal currency, legal tender in all countries.

Well, the bailout is structured wrong. What the banks need is the people paying their mortgages. As is, it isn't helping the banks or the people in need of help. It will be interesting to see how the next President handles the situation. We need something in a hurry. Bankrupting the country would be disastrous. I'm not sure we haven't already done it, though.

For the last 18 months or so,
I've been trying to decide if
Barack Obama is an empty suit
or someone who could be the
black JFK. Well, he's no empty
suit, and I'll swear to that.
I believe we can leave McSame out
of this by now, he isn't going to
win. So, presuming that Obama is
our next president, he's got alot
to do and alot to prove. I believe
we're about to get the right man for
the times and the problem, and ultimately
we're going to be all right. It's going
to take awhile and it's not going to be
fun or easy, but Pres.Obama will bring us
out of this.
Thanks, Cate! :-))

Al F. I am leaning in that direction too, but only if McCain wins. He will follow through with the Intregration of North America. How? because stupid Canadians re-elected Stephen Harper, the Republicans crony along with Mexico's Pres. So if and when that happens the Amero currancy will be born out of the dollars and pesos. I still say it should be called Cadmero or "Camero", Oh right! that's a car! LOL my bad!!!

The only way McCain wins is if the elections are rigged (again), we can all hang it up then.

I'm not referring to a simple combing of Western hemisphere currency, but a global currency.

So much has gone wrong that it would take a miracle to unravel it. Maybe Roosevelt would be capable of that, but we're going to have to put our faith in someone living! I agree with Tim....we're going to have to trust that things will smooth out. Thanks, Ombretta.
