Each year over 300 million pairs of shoes are thrown into United States landfills, and 12-year-old "Eco" Erek Hansen has made it his personal mission to make sure more of those shoes are recycled.

I've always wondered what to do with old runners. It seems like such a waster throwing them out when certain parts of them still seem to be in perfectly good shape. I wonder if there are any places around where I live that will recycle them...
