lack of sea ice due to rapid climate change is good news for the whales in the short term, providing them with much krill, but in the long term its bad news for them and everything else in the Southern Ocean that depends on krill

I believe that it is too early to blame climate change for the slightest change in animal behavior.

Whales are beautiful animals, I can't believe anyone would want to hurt them!

Beautiful not animals but "INDIVIDUALS"!!!!!!!! I went twice to Bar Harbor, Maine, from Rome, Italy, just to make Whale Watching!!! The ones I saw were Humpack Whales. My first time was more lucky: a Mum & her Baby approached the boat (4 - 5 metres FROM US) and remained there still for 10 minutes....with their head out of the water: "watching curiously " at US and "speaking" ABOUT US.... The mother was undoubtedly explaining something to her baby....It was a touching experience....some tears were on my face (the Captain said he never happened to attend such an event.. in 20 years experience!!!)

Thank you Jill for such interesting article, it is hard to believe that an amazing animal like the whales can be left alone to do what they were meant to do in the great waters, even there animals are not safe from the harm of mankind.

What? Less ice? What's that? Environmental change? Huh? Humans better listen up NOW.

After reading the article, global warming is more negative than it is positive.

They say something good will eventually result from a bad experience. But what with global warming drowning polar bears, killing penguins with too much snow or vice versa, parts of countries going underwater, coral bleaching and much, much more, I don't think people realizing their wrongs towards the earth is enough to be a good result.

Thanks for the news.

Being concentrated in that area makes it easier for the Japanese to slaughter them.

We need to save the world and all the animals from man's destruction.
