Thanks for this Jill. I do hope that they manage to save the Rhinos - they are lovely animals who are needed in their ecosystem - and they should not be murdered because of a lot of sadly inadequate people in the middle East who believe sympathetic magic based on shape!

It is great that there are legal requirements to protect rhinos...the trouble is that poachers have no respect for the law and it is all about $$$. Rhinos need prayers and protection.

It's sad to know that people posses stockpiles of rhino horns.

I just don't get this. No one should be in possession of rhino horns, period. Since there is no data about rhinos giving up their horns of their own free will, the only ones who should be in possession of them are...rhinos. No amnesty, no registration. Leaders like Mloewa, unenforced laws and corruption are why rhinos are in this horrible situation.

Noted with many thanks for this article Jill. I am another person who wonders why farmers have stockpiles of Rhino horns. They must be registered!

The valuable horns must be registered and secured and guarded.
The Chinese have been paying bargain prices to poachers for horns.
Prices go up... as the supply goes down.

Thank you Jill

registered unregistered how does that matter? No amnesty, no registration. Leaders, unenforced laws, murder tourists and corruption are the culprits.. Rhinos and other beautiful, irreplaceable species are in this horrible situation because of all of them.

any confiscated horn should only be caused by nature's hand, not man's

People need to leave the Rhino ALONE, before they become EXTINCT. Registering is NOT going to save them!!!!
