They now require EU fishing vessels to only land sharks with their fins still attached. This will limit the number of sharks killed to the space available to bring them back.

"Landing whole sharks also has the effect of reducing the number of sharks that can be caught in a single fishing trip, because fins alone take up a lot less cargo hold space than whole shark bodies."

Good news, although leaving all the sharks in the sea would be better.

I got this good news from one of the many, many petitions I have signed - the amounts of sharks caught are not only shocking - they seem quite INSANE - this allows the rise of another apex predator - and time and again it has been seen to be cephalopods/jellyfish that instantly fill that niche - as off the coast of Japan and off the coast of California and fish stocks crash as a result- we NEED sharks in our seas!
