There is concern for the fate of at least two elephants still being held in Zimbabwe for future export, to fulfil an order placed by China. The animals are being held in Victoria Falls, according to the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force (ZCTF).

"We are going to get a High Court order to prevent authorities from doing what they are doing." And the sooner, the better. Thanks Jill for keeping us informed on this situation.

The bastards involved in doing this to elephants, all animals, should be made suffer such an experience themselves, to be removed from all family, familiar surroundings, crated up for a long journey, being transported to an alien country, and put in unnatural surroundings.

I so hope the above does happen to all these human bastards, whether they are zimbabwean, chinese or whatever, may they be abducted and go through such hell.

No more exports of Elephants to China and to other parts of the World.

Elephant populations are down. Many are on the verge of being critically endangered.

Ty, Jill.

"ZCTF chairman Johnny Rodrigues, told SW Radio Africa on Monday that this victory is bittersweet, because it doesn't change the fact that orders for animals are still being placed and fulfilled. He said that there are still animals being held, including the two elephants in Victoria Falls. He said that orders for another 48 elephants have already been placed by international countries, and the cash strapped government would be fulfilling these demands.

"I praise the people that were involved in having the animals released, but I believe there is hidden agenda. There are still animals being held," Rodrigues said.

He said the government is already committed to fulfilling China's order, because they have been paid.

"I admire all the people that did so much to save them (the five released elephants), but there are another 48 elephants on order to be exported," Rodrigues warned."

Oh dear - so yet more baby elephants will be kidnapped from their grieving families and sold to vile conditions in China - VILE.

Thanks for the update Jill.

These elephants should not and cannot be shipped to China. All animals from domestic, wildlife, fish, and farm animals are brutalized, disrespected, eaten and neglected in this savage country which is China. If these elephants are to be shipped there, they will be left languishing in isolation. We must do all we can for these elephants. Thanks for letting us know.

He added: "It is frightening when we exploit something that is our heritage and export them to another country. We are going to get a High Court order to prevent authorities from doing what they are doing."

AAARrrgh. I just can't wrap my head around why Africa would sell any of their animals. Especially when the most of them are rocketing towards total extinction. Proof positive that the government could care less about the people want, it's all about the cashola.

Thank you for the up-date Jill-and thank you, Philip, for forwarding.
This is dis-heartening--why, I say again, would ANY country send their animals to China I will never understand. I dis-approve of zoos in general, and Chinese zoos (and their ilk) in particular.
And, I will say, I have seen pictures of Chinese animal activists risking life and limb to rescue dogs and cats on the way to the "meat market" (the activists were successful)--but the general national Chinese mindset does not seem favorable for animals.

Oh, GOOD GRIEF! What is the problem here?! Don't they get it! Zimbabwe, keep us this charade and keep playing this game with China, and watch any kind of tourism you had there before decrease! This is a travesty, let the elephants stay where they belong, you have no God-given right to them anyway, that is their home just as it is yours. LEAVE THOSE POOR LITTLE BABIES ALONE!!
