In my imagination I see horses romping around the freely in the country side. I have been told that if we imagine whilst feeling the emotion and in ultimate faith, we can manifest the image into reality. It is a power we all posses but most of us know very little of it. Perhaps if more people did and with the right action, we could manifest a beautiful compassionate world together. Just sharing my thoughts with everybody, but inside my heart breaks at how we treat animals, all animals for that matter. It stuns me that people do not see the intelligence and feeling in each animal and view animals as they would an object. Even vegetation is alive and seeing a tree being torn down unnecessarily, or the generally the indifferent attitude towards nature, let alone the destruction of it, is another massive heartache. I think we need to introduce compassion in schools and children taught these lessons side by side with academic education.
What incredible beauty God has given us. I pray that all humans come to realise the grandeur of everything including our own. As of horses, I am mesmerised by their awesome appearance and I have never doubted that they are majestic beings. Many humans are so deluded. Thank God for all the people who share my love and respect for them and all creatures. I am just about to vote. Oh, reading the article, apparently we are kind because we give horses jobs otherwise they would be dead!!!!
I try very hard to remain calm about it even thought I am seething!!! So horses have to work for us or be dead. Wow, I don't think I have ever read such an arrogant thick skinned comment before and excuse me but I would like to give this writer a swift slap where it hurts the most!!! Metaphorically speaking of course.

Voted and I think that in the name of tourism it's unethical to abuse and neglect horses. These animals should not be in the noisy and dangerous N.Y. city streets, breathing polluted air all day, day after day. Also the stable conditions are unacceptable with no room in which to move, instead of living in the fields and running free. I am against the horse-carriage " industry" which in my opinion is an abusive “industry”.

I can not see any advantage or anything healthy for these horses by putting them to work for so many hours every day and not being allowed regular free run, pasture time every week.
This is not a good thing ,not only for the horses but for us;the ones that have the responsibility to be care takers of the creatures on earth.

Every horse wants a job and they'd be dead if they didn't have one? I wonder how many horses he has asked that question. I am guessing none. Also he says that carriage drivers must love horses if they have this job. While they may not be as bad it sounds slightly better than saying that dog fighters must love dogs and that's is why they do it. I realize that the horses do not fare as badly as the dogs but dogs don't like what they do and horses don't like what they do either.
carriage horses should be living good lives and not be stuck in stinky, congested streets.

“All a horse wants is to have a job. If horses weren’t doing this, they’d be dead. We’re doing a credit to these horses by giving them a job and looking after them,” he said.

Animal science,,,,that gives you a free pass? I don’t think so.
Many activists were born with a gift to be able to handle any animal, even hurt wild ones. So what makes you so special. I have a sister who is overly educated with all kinds of degrees, retired from the Navy as a Commander and now works for the DOD. She also can not look into the eyes of an animal and understand all their hurts had fears. Animal rights activists sacrifice, live by a code, never exploit animals. Your little degree can’t buy you what we have. It’s not for sale

For nothing but humanitarian reasons, Bloomberg has to let this go. It's a minor attraction in NYC where when you even sit in a carriage, the experience is the same as the horse's. You sit , breathing in car exhaust, and bus fumes.

While I oppose banning the horse cabs, I also strongly promote that the horses be much better cared for in the city. No more than 6 hour shifts and proper breaks and feeding, plus hoof care and weather protection. Horses should be our companion animals as much as our willing workers and healthy servants.

Let Bloomberg do the pulling of the carriages if he thinks it is so great. Let him earn his keep for a while. Funny, but not ha ha funny, how the horses can not tell us what is really going on. Just the bloody, greedy owners.

well-- I don't agree with the masses. I don't see all this mass abuse of horses. 2 horses who pulled carriages died of what? 2 horses out of how many? sometimes I think we fall in love with an idea that sounds good but is it? We can lean to much one way or the other. I think horses are the most beautiful animals in the world. i can't imagine others feeling diferently but they do. Horse and owners do bond and share a love. people have to earn a living and provide a service. A carraige ride is an enjoyable idea. Why can't their be some corrections of protections for the animal but getting rid of of horse drawn carriage rides is not a good idea to me.
Btw I hate pythons and crocdiles cause they eat humans. Pythons are a problem in Florida. I pray that they are wiped off the planet. I am glad when their are courageous smart people who can deal with them and solve the problem. When wild animals invade human populations and are over abundance of them and they are killing humans, i say kill them. That is reasonable.

Sorry lyn , you are entitled to your opinion, but it doesn't mix with the majority here.
We live by the Animal Liberation Front Philosophy. HARM NONE
Even one horse (and there were more than one) is too many.
The statement above are good arguments for NOT having the carriage slave horse rides.
