You can now be charged with a felony for something you may or may not of been thinking. This is NOT only affecting animal rights activists. If they are allowed to get away with this, you won't be allowed to disagree with the government

Kathy, I'm so pissed right now, that I have no words for a proper comment that will not be banned. "Thought Crimes?" Are you freakin' kidding me? The U.S. has become George Orwell's 1984. Freedoms? What freedoms? Until we eradicate this horrendous two-party, corporate-controlled system, animals and those who love them, along with the environment will NEVER have a chance. People must vote Green Party, and in 2016, The Party For Animals USA, is supposed to have it's first presidential candidate. I pray that the activists here on Care2, will not cave to voting for either the Democratic or Republican Party. Obama has gutted animal protection laws for endangered species, and kept his "Czars" that have continued to wage war on our animals (such as his buddy Ken, as well the the BLM.) Obama signed the Horse Slaughter Bill that will send thousands of horses to their deaths, to become meat on someone's plate! Now he that he has flip-flopped on the Keystone Pipeline, I can see no reason why any environmentalists here would care to vote for him either.

What the hell is next? Do I even want to know? I see NO hope for the world right now! Excuse me, but I have to go smash something now, and then say some prayers for our Warrior Chris!

Animal activist is arrested while the real terrorists - Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al - walk free. Pathetic. And to all of you who aren't voting in November - you are part of the problem!

Which part of animal cruelty is not understood here. Animals belong in their natural habitat and should not be murdered, confined, used or abused in any way whatsoever. Lawyer jargon and law technicalities cannot change black and make it white. Yes Chris is a hero for all sentient people and incriminating him is a crime of the state. Nobody has a right over anyone else or any species. The word of God is compassion. The real terrorist is the state.

The Asst State Attorney can add felony charges to Lagergren, the good guy. But God forbid they could make animal abuse a felony. I am really feeling Kim on this one. I just don't feel right voting for Obama again either. For all the reasons Kim stated. Thanks for posting Kathy.

"If they are allowed to get away with this, you won't be allowed to disagree with the government."

No, just the industry/corporate-worshipping, ass-licking REPUBLICANS who support this kind of censorship of the public so their crapitalist, profiteering buddies can continue with "bizniss as usual" while they harm animals, deceive and abuse the public, and destroy the planet. Funny how these same LIARS and HYPOCRITES decry the "size and power" of government - except when they want to use that same "government" as their enforcer and bully to shut up and shut down the public, silence us, and force us to consume consume consume without questioning anything, demanding any accountability, or anything else. They want good little consumers so they can blindly push consumerism down the throats of everyone while they harm and destroy everything along the way.

That's who we're REALLY up against here, folks.

Well good morning. Ditto, to Roobios. I don't want Obama, but the thought of a Republican in office makes my blood chill. A third party is the only ethical choice for me; however I thouroughly recognize the danger. My mind has been spinning on the best way to help Chris, besides monetarily, and that would be a decision for him and his advisors on the best approach. Activists who have broken the "letter of the law" have done so from acting from a great ethical consciousness, a higher morality - and history has shown that even a few of these people have managed to incite changes in laws because of their actions or civil disobedience. No hope here of that though - but the principle is the same, and the fight to drop felony charges to the smallest penalites should be a goal. A petition drawn up by one who is familar with Chris's case and understands the law - or a form email that can be revised for people to send to the same effect. I mention this because you had included this in your email Kathy and wanted to address it.

Did ya really think that the NDAA would just sit on a shelf and not be used? Once a government obtains more power it uses it - and this government is no different than any other.

We definitely need more than a paltry "two-party" system. Seriously, how really different is that from the one-party system endured by Chinese citizens? To me, it's not all that different. There should be a multitude of parties, closer to the European model of governance, where many voices and perspectives are heard and represented. That's really what's needed in this country...and, of course, an overhaul of all legislation that systematically and ridiculously coddles and favours the uberwealthy and industries. That definitely has to be changed to put EVERYONE on the same footing to reduce the horrible and unnecessary disparity in this nation. The Scandinavians did it, and so can we!

This is beyond maddening. The people who want to help animals are now the terrorists? What a fuc...g joke. I guess being humane is a crime also. Look at our government and see where the real terrorists are. Ron Paul is out of the race, and I don't want Obama or Mitt.......there's no one left to vote for

you can tell a lot about a person or society by the way it treats the beings it doesn't think it has to treat well
if we devalue anything we stand to lose everything
life has value beyond measure

I do not even see the alleged misdemeanor crimes this activist was charged with, much less the Federal. What exactly did this individual do that was against the law? All I know is that he was on the premises of a place where mammals are confined.

The "ag gag" bills are popping up all over - many states! We MUST fight these - if passed in one state it will be easier to pass in others.

The 1% don't want protections for ANYbody or ANYthing except them! Women & children are not protected, but police are viciously protecting Democracy FROM peaceful protesters.. the world is f8$ked up and all sorts of people are being targeted by the 1% in charge - Gray Panthers, animal activists, tree huggers, Greenpeace, Gay Pride members, political activists..it won't stop until WE take control by electing Progressives over Regre$$ives of both parties.

I don't understand some of the comments here that are defending the so-called Democratic administration that we have right now. I see that most are going to vote Obama anyway. If you all do this, things will NEVER chnage. For those that hate Republicans ~ we have a so-called Democratic and Liberal president right now, and these things are happening under his watch! Why are you blaming people from the past? This issue is here and now! Until everyone says enough is enough, the status quo will go on. My voting is not just based on what will happen with the economy, but includes the humane treatment of every animal on earth and respect for the environment. Neither party stands for that right now!

While i don't agree with a lot of ELF's tactics, but ALF is a different story, and a prosecutor with a corporate as well as a political agenda does not belong in the justice system.

Everybody needs to be aware of this,,, we are being sold out. This is the reason for your ag gag orders. china has neither animal nor human rights.
http://www.naturalnews.com/034259_farmland_America.html

There are arguably a number of varying factors influencing the mass farmland sell-off currently taking place in the American Midwest. One thing seems certain, though -- America's once-treasured farming tradition is quickly fading into history as the next generation of Americans abandon rural life, and investors come in to snap up their fertile plots of soil in Iowa and elsewhere.

The trend of migration from rural to urban life is nothing new. But what is relatively new is the heightened interest among investors from around the country, and even from around the world, in purchasing US farmland as a type of "hedge" commodity for their portfolios -- and this is especially true as the value of farmland continues its rise to record levels.

A recent Reuters report explains that in Iowa, an agricultural mecca marked mostly by corn and soy crops these days, fertile farmland has become a hot commodity that is attracting many out-of-towners. Unable or simply unwilling to further the legacy of their parents and grandparents, farmland heirs are selling or auctioning off their family land to the highest bidder.

At the same time, demand for farmland is so high that many landowners feel it just makes good financial sense to sell their land. According to the latest figures, farmland prices in Iowa have increased about 24 percent within the past year, and the average per-acre price of cropland across the state is now $5,700 (http://www.iowafarmertoday.com/news/regional/iowa-farmland-values-soa...).

Another issue is the exorbitant federal estate tax, also known as the "death" tax, that farm heirs are levied following a farmer's death. This tax, which can exceed 50 percent of an estate's total value in some cases, can force farm heirs to sell some or all of the land just to pay it, which inadvertently forces farming families out of the business whether they want to or not.

And just who is buying all this land? Well, as we reported a few months ago, wealthy investors like George Soros (http://www.naturalnews.com/033319_food_prices_farmland.html), and China, which currently holds the most US debt currency in the form of Federal Reserve Notes (http://www.crikey.com.au/2011/06/16/foreign-ownership-of-aussie-land-...) have been busy buying farmland around the world.

In other words, when the ever-worsening economic meltdown eventually leads to massive food shortages, Americans will have already sold their source of food down the river for a heap of worthless debt currency.
