Their treatment of animals (bear bile, cat and dog meat and fur, horse fighting and "live" feedings at zoos) is atavistic and cruel. They can scream propaganda all they want but I have seen the videos and photos and have read first-hand accounts of such practices by not only animal welfare advocates, but mere tourists with no particular agenda. China cannot continue to lie about their human rights or animal welfare record - the TRUTH is out there for all to see.

They are full of it.. Their barbaric and horrible behavior has be consistant(consistantly heinous that it) thru out history to both Humans and Animals alike. They are deluding themselves if they think that they are fooling anyone with their propaganda-its pathetic.

If the decedents and immigrants of China, living in other parts of the world, are so proud of their country, then, why don't they go back "home" to China.

The link was a "propaganda" page...

China is deluding itself with consistent lies that they have become a truth only unto themselves.

TY, Kathy.

I watched a special on the Chinese OPlympics and saw what they really do to them. These children do not have a life. These people are cold and they have know warmth in their souls at all. I still wish they would make them stop the olmypics in China, I do not see a lot of good coming from it. Especially when they love to hurt animals and have total control over the family's and children. What evil people they are. I was once brought up having respect for all cultures, I can not when it comes to China.

I have NO sympathy with the Chinese what so ever...I find my self repelled by their constant torture and cruelty towards animals...they do NOT own Tibet..they took it because it posed a weak link to china as an unguarded access point. The military took over to ensure that China was guarded from ALL directions and that no foreign threat could be posed against them on any boundry....since then they have tortured and subjugated the Tibetan people and their traditional way of life...to HELL with them...and YES..I agree with Sharon Stone...the Hurricane was the Great Spirit paying Karma upon the Chinese People for their EVIL ways!

Margaret P. (76)
Saturday July 12, 2008, 10:36 am
Sharon Stone is in NO position to make comments about animal cruelty considering she wears animal products. Bet if we went through her residence we would find LOTS of made in China labels....What a hypocrite SHE is...What bothers me is the lump sum logic regarding the Chinese. Like any other nation, they are subject to their government and, if it were safe to do so, I bet a polling would show they are NOT in favour of most of their government's policies. A shame to dislike a nation for the actions of their politicians....Just my opinion....

Canine cuisine is being sent to the doghouse during next month's Beijing Olympic Games.

Dog meat has been struck from the menus of officially designated Olympic restaurants, and Beijing tourism officials are telling other outlets to discourage consumers from ordering dishes made from dogs, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Friday.

Waiters and waitresses should 'patiently' suggest other options to diners who order dog, it said, quoting city tourism bureau Vice Director Xiong Yumei."

Quotation from the Associated Press

I can imagine a waitress patiently urging a Chinese customer not to eat dog:

Waiter: Mr. Phingtron, I know dog ear is a delicious delicacy, but we must not offend the sensibilities of the Capitalists. Please order some Chow Mein or sweet and sour pork instead.

As the owner of two dogs, I'm delighted that at least for a few weeks canine cuisine will be off the menu of selected Beijing restaurants. Westerners won't be faced with the horrible prospect of opening a menu and finding the following entrees: Poodle bits, Boxer Burger, Pit Bull jerky and Hot Dogs (made from real dogs).

But when I think of the injustices in China, animal cruelty is at the bottom of the list. It would be nice if China banned sweatshops, the oppression of Tibet, and the imprisonment of dissidents during the Olympics.

Westerners shouldn't go to the Olympics in the first place, why give legitimacy to a totalitarian government? I'm so disgusted by the tyranny of the Chinese government, that I'm not watching the Olympics on TV.

Would you eat dog meat?

you can debate here:

China has ordered the 112 official Olympic restaurants not to serve dog meat during the Beijing Olympics in August so as not to gross out Westerners. They also strongly suggest that all the other eateries in town stop selling dog meat for the month, too. The move is like their orders to shut factories to clear pollution for the month: purely cosmetic. If anything it shows how deeply entrenched dog-eating is. Animal groups say the practice is actually growing into a big business worth about $4 billion a year.

Even the government's Xinhua News Agency announcement shows how dog-eating is almost revered: "Gourmets with a special predilection for dog meat will be disappointed if they come to the Chinese capital in the coming two months." The Beijing Catering Trade Association (BETA) will "blacklist" those who don't cooperate, but they'll make an exception for dog meat "for medicinal purposes." Many Chinese think eating canines lowers blood pressure, the agency says.
According to the Asian Animal Protection Network, eating dog used to be a "cottage industry" where the rural poor would raise puppies to take to market. Now it's become fashionable -- especially in southern China and among Koreans. Dog meat is more expensive than pork. Factory farms with horrific conditions raise the dogs. The Asia Animal Protection Network says the farms are now importing big, docile breeds, especially St. Bernards, known locally as "Big Dumb Dog," as dog livestock. The Filipino organization Dog Meat Trade also reports that the dog meat industry is expanding and is now about $3.8 billion. The Swiss were horrified to learn in 2001 their St. Bernard friends were finding their way to China to breed livestock. (They're crossbred with local dogs and the puppies become dinner.) The Swiss Group St. Bernard SOS has an online petition that aims to stop dog eating altogether by the Olympics. That seems unlikely.

If dog-eating and dog-farming slows down it will be from changing attitudes within Asia. As the Chinese become wealthier and more urban, they're increasingly owning dogs as pets -- something once frowned upon as bourgeoisie. But instead of just giving the dogs rabies shots, the government waits until a dog contracts rabies and bites a person, then they conduct barbaric sweeps, killing all the dogs in an area, with vigilantes joining in. "Dogs being walked were taken from their owners and beaten on the spot...Other teams entered villages at night, creating noise to get dogs barking, and then beating them to death," the New York Times reported.

To be sure, there are those who would say it's culturally imperialistic of us to look askance at Asian dog-eating. Or French horse-eating. We eat cows, chickens and pigs and don't treat them that great, either. There's little hope of any diplomatic effort or boycott to stop the dog meat trade. (But it certainly makes the way dog food manufacturers were importing cheap (and, it turns out, toxic) ingredients from China seem all the more callous). As China grows economically more powerful, it has even less reason to fall in line with western culture.

OMG... Who read the article? Prejudice is awfully nasty, and anyone

Please, insulting each other, isn't going to resolve anything, but feed the breeding of this intense manifestation of "evilness" that is consuming nation, its people, and this world. Even, with our personal opinions, we must find some common ground respecting each others "feelings", even though we don't like them. We have NO POWER to save ALL the dogs and cats from these horrible and brutal sufferings in China. We can only do the best we can. Getting pissed off to the extremes, will only make one's soul weak and sick, and it will have a ripple affect of the negative consequences.

Man, I have always felt Daphne's strong energy of committment and I am so humbled by her compassion. However, I do understand her strong point, and I struggle to have patience, so I don't go ripping people apart for being blind to the dark powers of what our dark intelligence plans for the middle and lower classes replacement. I get like her within..., where I see so many blinded and not seeing the truth to be pro-active as a nation of people unified, to take back our nation, so we can bring more relief to all the living that is brutally suffering and dying all over the world, every minute we breath.

This website of a person that has his own agenda, purpose for a greater union to show a different side of China, or work for the opposing forces that we deal with in our nation. Who really knows...
Of course we realize that there are beautiful areas in China, and good people, regardless of the corrupt government and many of its people.

We see this in our own nation. We have the same type of corrupt government, who do push the line in human rights and who don't do much about the welfare of our animals. We have some beautiful cities, and areas in our nation. We have many people who abuse the laws who rape, murder, torture, sell drugs, and torture animals for fun. This doesn't mean, we don't call out for the same ACTION of CHANGE in our nation.

This guy should stay in China. Noted and thank you, kathy.

I WOULD NEVER EAT a cat or dog unless my life depended on it, and then I'd
even have to think twice! I can't find information on the percentages of
Chinese who do partake, but.... I feel quite certain it is low. Please share your sources, Daphne.
"The Vegetarian Resource Group estimates that 2.8 percent of adult Americans consider themselves vegetarian, up from 2.3 percent in a 2000 survey.
From: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6008949/" That means that the rest
of the USA is eating meat of one kind or another, and slaughter houses
are not pretty places.
I am in no way condoning eating dog/cat meat! But nearly 20% of the world's population is in China, and the vast majority live primarily
on grains and vegetables.

— World 6,671,226,000 July 1, 2007 100% UN estimate
1 People's Republic of China[3] 1,324,891,000 July 12, 2008 19.86% Chinese Population clock
2 India 1,135,273,000 July 12, 2008 17.02% Indian Population clock

i am a master at the debate but i have been told by care2 support when i see such things to flag them ...............so i do ......thats all .....there are rules here on care2 we must follow and one of them is not to defame groups of people based on ideas of nationality and ethnic background ......which whether you know it or not many do .......PEOPLE ARE TOLD BY OTHERS THAT THEIR WORDS ARE HARMFUL TO THEM AND STILL THOSE WORDS CONTINUE ....some people need to learn how to use language in a creative way that is not found to be racist defaming to minority groups or nationalities ...IF THEY CANT THEN THEY NOT I ARE THE ONES who actually can not debate or take part in a civil discourse .......ITS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

nothing i have seen in this thread would be considered debate .......those trying to ask questions pose alternative views or request a less hostile tone are attacked ....requests for data to be given is denied by some .....the list goes on and on of why this is not a debate or even civil
course............

Pamela R. (159)
Saturday July 12, 2008, 4:36 pm
Thanks for the list of sites. I have looked at four so far and the data
provided by those Animal Activist groups is disturbing. From one of the
sites you provided:
http://www.idausa.org/campaigns/korea/koreando.html

"The practice of eating dogs is not widely accepted in Korea. It gained popularity after the Korean War due to widespread starvation. The practice continues to thrive with the aid of greedy restaurateurs, meat dealers, and butchers.

Dogs are well-loved animals in Korea and many people keep dogs as companions. However, we must take action to stop the small contingent of people who blithely ignore the law and continue to abuse these innocent beings to make money."

And, Daphne, that is all I was trying to express earlier. The VAST majority of Asians do not condone this barbaric practice.

I won't be commenting on this anymore. Wishing all a very good evening!
In Peace!

india must see us as barbaric eating sacred cows. kenyans can't believe we eat the most filthy animal alive --- pigs. don't throw stones until you walk in the other person's shoes. the human brain is totally copycat and adaptive. people can't help the culture they are born into.
when people are introduced to foreign customs, they often adopt what they like. how can they do so without contact. missionaries taught primitive people to stop cannabalism and head hunting.
the Olympics are a good thing where both sides can learn pieces of better living from each other.

Okay what the heck was this...I am posting it here for her to read..since she blocked me, and I couldn't respond to her message lashing out at me..
*******************
Marena, Please forgive me, if I have offended you. My mother had some Chinese blood in her, besides her Hawaiian heritage. I am not proud of how our local people have digressed in the islands, today..neither.

Many activists are aware of the beautiful lands of China and its ancient history. Their culture has much history. There are alot of good people. I thought my comment made it clear that there is good and bad in both countries of America and China.

The huge difference is you don't see Americans slaughtering animals in brutal ways and many still alive dragged through the streets to prepare for meals. You don't see priests or monks who have no weapons and only want their freedoms, in robes and sandals being degraded and beat. At least our laws are much more enforced against animal cruelty of any species and we don't beat people in robes and sandals who are asking for peace.

I won't even get into the Secret Science projects that they have been doing for decades. No one are helping these poor people in China, and that is a horrible crime of the world's leaders. Many people in America, will say too, "I love my life...and America is wonderful"..., because they don't experience the suffering and pain that the other Americans are experiencing. To have one video and a written article of their opinion, is one thing...., but that site was total propaganda with many different pictures and such trying to wipe out the truth, and implement a different perspective.

There are many professional and intelligent people that do this about America too. I would have written the same thing. I don't care if you don't note my stories or such..., I am sorry that you are offended, which I didn't mean to do to you. Much Love...always...Namaste, Dar

Please join me in condemning China for high crimes against elephants and human beings, as well :

-their continued and ever-growing use of ivory & thus, the increase in elephant poaching & now legal killing (How the Ivory Trade Funds Bloodshed in Africa - The Independent and China: Tons of Elephant Ivory Missing);

-the continued genocide in Darfur;

-the repression in Tibet & the imprisonment in inhuman conditions of Tibetans 'disappeared' since last springs' protests;

-the blocking of UN sanctions against Mugabe & his clique (thanks to China and Russia, nothing can hinder their campaign of terror in Zimbabwe)

Umm.. small percent… I think not! These sadistic crimes against humanity are being committed on the streets, in full view of all that pass by because there is a market for this kind of meat and fur, if it were just a minority, then there wouldn’t be much demand for it, it has already been mentioned here that it is accept it as ‘normal’ because it’s a ‘part of their culture’. A culture that on the hole is deficient in empathy

geez, we are all here to support the same causes...i dont understand all this bickering. We are all on the same page ppl. Kindness and respect for one another is what we must adhere to.

About the Olympics....Yes, China isn’t even close to being a global role model: oppression, human and animal rights violations, Darfur, Tibet, unsafe products, food safety, air pollution, cultural differences. Should the Olympic committee have chosen one of the other candidates instead: Havana, Cairo, Kuala Lumpur, Istanbul, or Bangkok? They all fail in human and animal rights. Aamir Khan, a torch runner, said, "If we were to try and find on this planet a place to hold the Olympic Games where the government has not been responsible for human-rights violations, we would be left with very few options."

The Olympics should be about competition, goodwill, sportsmanship, PEACE, progress, and unity. Athletes who’ve trained hard deserve the opportunity to compete for their homeland on the grandest sporting event but then there’s the other side: SPONSORS! like Coke, Samsung, G.E. etc.
Prestige isn’t why countries compete to host the Games; it’s to expand their global marketing opportunities. Wouldn’t it be nice, though, if everyone honored the Olympic ideal: to compete in a grandiose event against the best in the world?!

Thank you all for all the info. DITTO Dar D.

China obviously lost the true meaning of "harmony" many moons ago, lets just hope they have a major "shift" and bring balance to their people and animals. One can only hope, until then boycott their products (VERY difficult with all the products filtering into the US), don't watch or support the Olympics and send positive energy to the people of Tibet and all those who suffer there especially the animals.

I SEE NO DIFFERENCE IN "HUMAN RIGHTS & ANIMAL RIGHTS" THEY ARE ALL TREATED THE SAME THERE---CRUEL!!!WHERE IS THE DIFFERENCE IN YOU SAYING "evil is what HITLER DID AND BUSH IS DOING" AND WHAT WE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE CRUELTY IN CHINA!

Thank you BRENDA. Its all part of more propaganda with the upcoming olympic games. China is this that and every other thing under the sun that is not good. The Unites States, however, and all we do...and what we eat? hahahahaha....no further comment. Looking at MY OWN BACKYARD, thank you.

Could you please share ONE source that is definitive regarding
Asians and the practice of eating dog and cat meat?

in Maos tumbes- dogs were found (as a meat)burried along soldiers, and other "things" that king needs... (saw on national geographic)

Good Morning! I have to clarify that question (poorly asked!)!
Of course I had been aware of the consumption of dog and cat meat in Asia and I DON'T LIKE IT and my hope is that this practice will die out.
I spent a long time on Google, on Ask.com
Yahoo searching FOR PERCENTAGES!! That was my question... In the USA
there are people who indulge in dog fighting for "sport". HORRIFIC!!
I could find a picture and post it, but does that mean that the average
American watches this barbaric activity? NO.
And, by the way, to date I have never flagged anyone. I'd rather let the
world see for themselves derogatory and prejudiced statements and make
their own decisions regarding their worth.

The fact still remains that in The Unites States we eat the cow, which is holy ansd sacred in India. Should India call for all the world to boycott the United states???? Well, according to what is happening on this page, YES! INDEED the world should call for a boycott on what America eats!

Personally, I have to agree that eating cows, pigs, chickens etc is no more acceptable then eating cats’ dogs, donkeys… or what ever, that is why I am a vegan. I do not defend any form of abuse, Animal or Human, I go out my way to protest against all forms of abuse (like many other good people in care2 and else where do) regardless of the country in which it is taking place. There is a call at the moment to boycott Austria over its outrageous human rights issue, there was the boycott Canada over the seal slaughter, and considering that China can only really be described as the nearest thing to HELL ON EARTH FOR SO MANY, I therefore think it is quite fitting to call for a boycott. Why should China profit from the funds from other countries?

I could care less if all Boycott the United States for I do not eat meat period, If they do good then we can learn to be self supportive on ourselves again instead of imports, when we send animals there all the time and all other trades for which other contries depend on. We messed up years ago for even starting it. But like they say stupid is as stupid does.

Elgin this thread isn't about bigotry, it's about the propaganda China is trying to spread to cover the evils they do. And please don't pick on Daphne on my thread. This thread wasn't started to cause AR people problems, it's to let people know about the propaganda. I could fill you in on your comment towards Daphne & what she knows about what is happening in China. She is a strong AR activist from myspace and care, she does a job, that many of us coward at doing. She informs herself about what they are doing there and refuses to close her eyes. I myself admire her for her strength in this battle. Does she get upset? If people would stop and think about the stress she really is under with her campaign against animal abuse in Asia, maybe they'd be a little more tolerant themselves. I honest can tell you this woman holds no bad will against any person who loves animals.

one thing some are forgetting, we are not against the abused people of any country, we are against their leaders taking NO action to stop the abuse, whether it be of human or animal. All countries do have a lot to do to bring relief to their people and animals, that is why we fight them ALL, not just the rule of one country, but ALL. this becomes an issue any time there is posting against animal or human abuse in China, it IS the governments obligation to try to end it. you can talk about other countries and their lack of care in those arenas, this one is about China.
pointing the finger at other countries and their lack of care doesn't make this less important, we have to stay diligent in our fight against ALL abuse, whether it be in China, Canada, or the USA. do some think we should not raise the issues, should we remain quiet and hope it stops? get real! attacking other ARA, who work so hard to fight abuse, makes it worse. why is that so hard to get??

Sheila, you rock...heh. There is so much work to do, and SO MUCH CHANGE to happen ALL OVER THE WORLD, that we need strong activists who can handle the huge darkness, at this level. I guarantee you, not all can....
I bow to many individuals in the organizations I am in, and in Care2 that deal with and face the bloody horror of the most awful crimes committed against humans and animals, everyday of their life.

I can't do that. I do what I can, but I can't be a Daphne or a River Phoenix, and I am a spiritualist, go figure..heh. If one is looking to weed out bigotry.., I suggest going to the White House, or the 50 states Senates and House of Representatives or Major City Halls..., that should keep you busy, AND you will be PRODUCTIVE. Coming to an activists' network seems like one is just bored, miserable, and wants attention, in their life, and wants others to pay attention to them..heh. It doesn't make sense to attack and flag someone that is fighting the "evils" in this world, even if they become absorbed with some of the negative vibrations of it...Remember, THEY ARE SEEING IT AND FIGHTING IT EVERYDAY, IT IS THEIR LIFE PURPOSE, and consequences can come with it...I haven't met any SAINTS that work in Care2, and can do this work without being affected in someway.

If one is sooooo intelligent then they should be able to see beyond the flaws of this human emotion, and make the connection of what the soul's true INTENT is for its purpose. AND NOT, take things so PERSONAL and be INSECURE within themselves. I don't justify racism nor "out-of-control emotional remarks", all I am saying is THINK, and then respond with your opinion, without fueling the fire. Maybe an activist network is the LAST PLACE THEY SHOULD BE..., unless their is some "other" need they are fulfilling....

NO PERSON HAS CART BLANCHE no matter who they are to defame a whole nation of people for their governments actions .........

IF AN ACTIVIST DOES THAT .......they have damaged the movement itself .....

if one can not in polite language ..i.e use terms that are not derogatory as in sexist racist homophobic ....WHICH ARE THE RULES OF CARE2 .....then one needs to assess if this is the right setting for them ......

THIS IS FAR FAR FAR FROM THE FIRST TIME this has occurred .......this is not a one off ........and people continue to turn the heads .......WELL not me .......i was reading setting back and a person whom i am not even friends with..... whom blocked me due to a disagreement we had over a poll .....HAD ASK THAT THE LANGUAGE BE SOOTHED {IN A ROUND ABOUT WAY }........this released a firestorm onto this person and i could not stand by an allow what was done to me on numerous occasions to continue ........

to tell someone that maybe they should leave care2 because they speak out against defamatory language is !W%#$U#^{which means nonsense}

i do not see beyond it and refuse to .......i joined car2 to work with a progressive group of people AND THE BIGOTRY HAS GOT TO GO GO GO ...

THE PERSON and or persons that use language like that need to maybe take some classes for the first time or again to maybe learn how to communicate and step back .......BUT HEY I COULD BE WRONG .....YOU DONT HAVE TO BE NICE JUST DONT DEFAME PEOPLE

FYI .......i am on my computer a lot ...........and care2 is only one way i am linked to the outside world .........HANDHELDS ARE WONDERFUL ....I AM USUALLY LIKE NOW IN MY GARDEN AT 2 AM REVIEWING THE DAY ........

i actually showed this thread to my friends from china and tibet who i am in school with ........IT IN THEIR EYES IS CRUEL THE THINGS SAID ....they are not the president or party of china and maybe an activist who knows so much about china should maybe use the names of the people whom are at fault ....

TO ONE SOMETHING MAYBE PROPAGANDA TO ANOTHER IT IS THEIR SIDE OF THINGS ...your side of things maybe propaganda to another ........ IT ALL SPIN AND IT IS ALL PR {PUBLIC RELATIONS OR PROPAGANDA }

DAR D THIS IS TO YOU i am not insecure ......

Elgin I missed that but I haven't missed other threads where you run around irating people and then YOU REPORT THEM TO CARE? How low can one go.
Stop being a trouble maker and help be a part of the solution.

Sheila as usual girlfriend you are right on. Education is strong ally in fighting abuse of any kind.

Sharon stone really comes across as a hypocrite especially since she regularly uses fur and is even launching a new fur line.
