Children that could be alive, die every day in the United States, because Child Protective Services across this country simply do not follow their own simple procedures. Sign this petition to tell US Congress to take action to change this sad reality.

The Petition:
April is Child Abuse Protection Month. Children that could be alive, die every day in the United States, because people do not report and Child Protective Services across this country too often do not follow their own simple procedures. Agencies and individual employees alike need to be held accountable when they make choices that result in children's deaths that otherwise might have been avoided.

The middle class baby shown here did not die from the abuse inflicted on her. She survived to adulthood, alive, but certainly not unscarred. During her early years she suffered much that would be called torture and prosecuted as a crime if inflicted by an adult on another adult. As a child she was subject to physical, emotional and psychological abuse, and possibly sexual abuse.

The newborn was three weeks old, when her mother first slapped her so hard on her bare bottom that the red hand mark remained for hours. By age one, mother and father escalated their corporal punishment in the name of training and discipline. Over the next years she was bitten, slapped, pushed, punched, beat with belts, metal edged rulers, wooden spoons, shoes, and other things. She was dragged around by her hair, forced to eat soap, locked in rooms, deprived of meals, forced to spend hours in stress positions, made to scrub floors with amonia, and endured other punishments to teach her lessons. An older sibling and a stepfather contributed more abuses. Although people knew, no one stood up or spoke out for her.

We, the petitioners, are standing up and speaking out for the children still suffering as much and more, every minute of every day.

We ask you, as a member of a Congress that continues to fund these agencies, and through them passes a lot of money to private companies providing services to children, without holding them all accountable for little more than where the money is spent, to reconsider your priorities for allocating taxpayers' money. Our children are important to us. We want to see that they are equally as important to you.

Before the next election, we want to know by your efforts just how important children are to you. The easiest way you can show us how much you do care is to take immediate action. Words simply aren't good enough anymore, especially when it comes to our children's lives. Promises, no matter how well intentioned, do not save children from the torture and death they experience while you delay.

As taxpayers we request the appropriate committees conduct extensive hearings on this issue sometime during this year. At least another 1,500 children will die at the hands of their primary caregivers during the year, and the majority of those children will be known to the Child Welfare System that is partly funded by your choices.

You have the power to make changes. You can write laws that eliminate the loopholes that enable the system to do as they did and get what they got... You can provide the financial incentives to create change among those who resist it. You can insure that people who put off until tomorrow what should be done today do so with as much risk to themselves as they cause to innocent children whose lives are at risk.

Congress held hearings on product safety because of dangers to children. You held hearings on Steroids because of dangers to children. You held hearings on Youth detention facilites because of dangers to children. You held hearings on human trafficking that involves dangers to children. You held hearings on internet safety and child pornography because of the dangers to children. These and other child-related hearings are important. We watched. We listened. We are glad that you did them. We thank everyone who participated.

However, as important as those issues are to children, not one of those issues involved the deaths of at least 4 or 5 children every day here in the United States. Not one involved hundreds of thousands of debilitating injuries to children each year in the United States. Not one involved 3 million reports of child abuse each year in the United States.

Those agencies and individuals that can make those numbers improve must be held accountable. Those who are accountable must be properly educated, trained, and supervised. Those who are accountable for children's safety and welfare must no longer be over loaded with more cases than can be effectively handled. Those who are accountable to investigate must no longer be tied to a desk doing paper work instead, because support staff has been eliminated due to funding cuts. Those who do the work that saves children must also be paid proportionately to the importance of that work. None of that is true now.

You can make the changes that ensure the inadequacy of the Child Welfare System is no longer an excuse for continued child abuse. We will thank you when you do.
Thank you now for your sincere consideration of this petition. We appreciate that. We look forward to the April when your changes mean stories like these are not in the news every day:

To many people don't want to get involved but, how do they feel after that child die's? We had a case here not far from where I live, did not know they had adopted a child from china, this child died from poisoning, they left her all week-end then came home and called as if it had just happen. The truth always comes out. They had childern of there own too, but no harm to them. They will pay for what they done, not just prison time but also i hope on there concinces.Thank you Nancy noted

I am going to be flamed by the rest of you because of this (If you want to drop me because of it, do so), but you are only addressing one side of the problem with this petition. I do agree that Child Services needs an overhaul, but they also steal children from loving parents because of unfounded complaints filed by people with a grudge, who do not have to leave their name, thereby striking out with impunity at thier chosen target. They go after and take away kids from homes where there is no abuse going on, but the parents may be dissadvantaged financialy or physicaly and can't fight back. These agencies promise help, but instead they steal the children involved. Then those children are placed into foster homes where they are abused.

There are also cases where the children should be removed and are not, but I will not give these agencies any additional power to distroy families until there is also recourse for parents.
Thank you for reading my comment.

Sorry Christine, but protection from false accusation is not refered to at all in this petition. It is just not mentioned at all in the text or stories related to this petition, just attacks against parents.

STOP FALSE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST GOOD PARENTS FOR CHILD ABUSE AND ENDANGERMENT

There is no doubt that there are some parents who abuse both their biological and adopted children.

Some of these parents were abused when they were children and could be on drugs.

I do not support the abuse, molestation and exploitation of children. It is evil.

Equally, I am opposed to false accusations of child abuse against innocent parents.

Sometimes children have to be scolded or disciplined for doing something bad.

That should not constitute child abuse.

However, it seems this is exactly what is going on.

If your child misbehaves and you scold him or her, he/she can call the police, the Child Protective Services and accuse you, the parent of abusing and molesting him/her.

Just like some adult, some children tell lies too.

If some adults tell lies and adults bring children into the world, then it is reasonable to believe that sometimes children could be telling lies.

They must have learned how to do that from the adults.

It appears that many times when there is a report of child abuse and molestation, the authorities side with the children against the parents, jump into conclusion, rush to prosecute, convict and imprison the parents, without a thorough investigation to determine if the child told the truth.

In some cases, the children lie because they disliked their parents for not allowing them to do whatever they liked, so they fabricate stories of abuse and molestation.

I am in favor of proper investigation whenever there is a report of child abuse in a family to make sure that parents are not being falsely accused (for being good parents by disciplining their children) and then prosecuted, convicted and imprisoned.

There are no parenting schools where prospective parents can go to be educated FREE on how to be good parents.

Parenting in America is expensive, risky, fraught with dangers and very difficult!!!

If you allow your child to do whatever he/she likes and not discipline him/her, he/she could join the wrong gang at school, start doing drugs, shop- lifting and one day commit a serious crime that could send him/her to the prison.

When this happens, the parents are accused of being bad parents, spoiling the child and being neglectful.

However, if you care for your children, discipline them when they misbehave, they could report and accuse you of being abusive and molesting them.

When the authorities come, in some cases, they believe the children 9even though they could be lying because they disliked you for disciplining them), remove them and put them in foster care, and then prosecute, convict and imprison the parents for child abuse, molestation or endangerment.

It is a catch 22.

Whatever you do or fail to do, as good parents, could lead to a problem with your children.

It is becoming very risky to have children and be good parents in America.

Instead of finding every little excuse to accuse parents of child endangerment, prosecuting, locking them up, removing the children and putting them in foster care system where they are molested and abused, I am in favor of programs and schools being created to educate prospective parents about good parenting.wppm.org

This is an outrage and the problem is just as bad in Australia. More resources and staff and effort are needed.Abusive parents should be sterilised without question because having children is a privelege but their rights are as our own. I am sick of child abuse being treated on a level with animal abuse as if they suffer less than adult humans because they are smaller.Thank you Nancy you do a fantastic job for the children.

I can't thank you enough Nancy my good friend, I have signed the petition, this is definately noted, and good job. The laws need to be changed in order to protect "our children" we need to save them from the hands of the perps..and get the law more on the childs side. If the children can't count on CPS, then who?...I wish the sub humans that do these things would think first about the harm and the invasion that they are putting on their victims, I truly do.
Blessings..

Yes. All have good points said politely, no reason to be banned at all.
It is true that it can go both ways, that they take away children from good mothers who someone makes a grudge on or is jealous of & give them to somebody who is unfit instead ("www.shreddedsociety.com") & the abuse begins there OR that to the other extreme they leave horribly abused children in the home that they should have helped the child more, like such as poor, poor little Nixmary whose news was here about that too late, as she was so savagely abused she ended up dead..tho people had reported.. Sadly, If less people would make false reports the system could be busier dealing with the real crimes to children..People should be aware that they should certainly report real child abuse, but that making false child-abuse reports is a crime that hurts other children who are really being abused.
Thanks so much Nancy for posting & caring for these little ones.

Your not kidding that CPS fail all the time. I have a first hand horror story about a child who is a big part of my life who was abused horrifically and CPS only interviewed her with the abuser present, did not follow up and left her to continue living with her abuser. I can't deal emotionally with this issue at all. So thanks for doing it on behalf of all those who need it most.
