Pelosi Must Let States Create Single Payer Plans

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: single payer healthcare, kucinich, HEALTHCARE FOR ALL NOW! )

Just
- 26 days ago - democrats.com
When Speaker Pelosi announced her "floor version" of the healthcare bill on Thursday, she made a critical mistake: she removed the "State Single Payer" amendment proposed by Rep. Dennis Kucinich. Tell Congress the "Kucinich Amendment" must be included!

I don't understand this public option "in" or "out" fraud to ficticiously appease the mass. Single payer is the only way to true reform!!! Thank you again for posting:)

The Petition:

A PETITION ESTABLISHING
HEALTH CARE AS A CIVIL RIGHT

Whereas, Universal Health Care was proposed by President Teddy Roosevelt in 1912; and

Whereas today, nearly 100 years later, 47 million Americans are uninsured and another 50 million are underinsured bringing great social and economic harm to the American family; and

Whereas, HR 676, authored by Congressmen John Conyers and Dennis Kucinich provides for Medicare for All, a universal, single payer, not-for-profit health care system which means the end of premiums, copays and deductibles; and

Whereas we are already paying for a universal standard of care but are not getting it because one of every three dollars in the health care system goes to the activities of the for-profit insurance system; and

Whereas HR676 firmly establishes health care as a Civil Right, consistent with the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States and Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution which defines a purpose of government "to promote the General Welfare," now therefore,

I HEREBY EXPRESS MY STRONG SUPPORT FOR HR676, SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE, AND THE PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMIC JUSTICE FOR WHICH IT STANDS:

This is waht was sent to Pelosi... HR 676 is what 90 % of American's, which the Dare To Dream Network got signatures from, want..Some spoke about the public option as long as it's as good as what the legislators already have. But most agree that Single Payer is the smartest way to go because the principal is already in action, Medicare, and it would not take years to implement.

One things for sure some of those folks that "We" talked with are convinced that most leaders, from both sides of the aisle, work for the insurers and other corporate interest believing the average American will never see any health care worthwhile... Dare To Dream has put together a cover letter which will be sent to Kucinich/Conyers and several others, sharing what we learned during this period about what real Americans are really saying about the infighting, leadership, especially with-in the Democratic party! Many thought the Republicans were just being their mean spirited selves... The majority of those we spoke with are very peeved, some downright angry, at the prospect of any future worthwhile health care program being implemented. One that will hold the insurers accountable to their over reaching and abuse of power! Some were even wondering why legislators are so eager to get Tort Reform over and done with. I can't repeat what some said about that issue!

Yet in spite of this DTDN was able to garner what we calculate to be at least 90% of signatures of those we spoke with. Why? Because of the optimism put forth by those reaching out to get signatures for HR676 and the idea that health care should be a right, not a privilege, for something so vitally necessary!

HEALTHCARE....

Friends - Healthcare is a Must, but it must be done the right way.

Careful the government and insurers will not con you all into something that is worse than no insurance.

Please read: http://www.justlanded.com/english/Netherlands/Netherlands-Guide/Health/Healthcare

I was in Holland for a year (my mom lives there) and after receiving a working permit, I worked there.
I continued to pay insurance here in Israel. The insurers came after me, because I refused to pay two different coverings. I am not rich, just working class, regular mojo, so should I support a huge corporate insurance company? Eventually I left without paying..... and I never will. I prefer to go to jail.

Healthinsurance in Holland was great until 2006. The government privatized it, and private insurers are making profits. It changed the system from a human and caring system to a corporate profit based system where people get lost in the system.....

Be careful what they do in the States...... Demand Government interference FOR THE PUBLIC, not that the government sides with the private insurance companies.

The government hypocrites in Holland are shareholders of these insurance companies - they want them to earn them money.... not take care of the people.

Otherwise, try this link: http://www.democrats.com/state-single-payer

Thanks Carole, I signed both this one and the Kucinich one. I've signed every one I can find. I've emailed McCain and Kyl and Mitchell and filled out their web forms at least once a week. Sometimes I also call their offices. I left a comment on both petitions - here's the comment I put on the petition to Mitchell, McCain, Kyl:
Anyone who says the American people don't want a robust public option so we can have an alternative to the plundering and pillaging big insurance companies is just lying. We're getting financially ruined and literally killed by big insurance in this country and during all this our Congress keeps protecting them from competition. Given a really good situation to operate in, big insurance abused it and starting raking in profits while denying medical care. Big insurance took advantage of their situation and became a racket, a cartel. Now we are paying a huge price and so are our local small businesses and our families. Please help us. This is not a matter for compromise and no one is permitted to feel sorry or warmly about the insurance cartel either. The trigger is NOW. The problem is acute and we need a solution that takes effect in 2010. We have been plundered and pillaged by the insurance cartel that had a chance to do well but turned greedy and dishonest instead. They had their chance to behave in socially responsible ways. Now we're done. We need a very strong public option so we can stop subsidizing their rapacious greed and dangerous profit margins. I don't want to ever pay another hard-earned dime to an insurance company who can deny medical care I've already paid for and then leave me to die. I don't want to give them any more chances to do damage. I want to have a public option for me, right now, so I can stop paying them money to lobby my government against me. They are criminally corrupt and a danger to our society. I'm done. Most of the American people are fed up with this and them. Our small businesses need a public option on the way to (soon) single payer and the same for our families. NO more giving breaks to a cartel that does damage. No more!

I agree, Jenny. Within one day, this petition has received over 10,000 signatures . . . and yet, Congress would have us believe that there is little support for single payer!

Thanks for sticking with the battle of corporate corruption vs. public need.

You know of course that not having single payer as the main part of the health care bill is EVIDENCE that Corporate America is writing the legislation in their favor through the corporate puppets in the congress... yes, you do know that. Now how do we get Corporate America out of the BUSINESS of running our government?

The cover letter that DTDN is sending, along with the signatures for HR 676, speaks to this issue..Lets pray that the answer "We" Americans eventually get back, when it comes to a safe, reliable, choice centered health care bill, fits the bill!

From Health Justice
Many people have expressed outrage that Nancy Pelosi's Washington office either hangs up immediately or sends you to voicemail if you even start to say something about the Kucinich or Wiener amendments. Here is one example. And don't bother with email -- she shut down the "americanvoices" email address.
Here is a way around it. Start out by saying pleasantly, "Hello, I am calling at the request of Karen Ignani" and then blast your message. So far, anyway, they are still listening to Karen Ignani. I know; I just used that tactic and got a very polite "How can I help you?"

Let's call Pelosi out on her lie! Demand Nancy Pelosi Keep Kucinich
Amendment Allowing States to Enact Single-Payer
Call Speaker Pelosi: (202) 225-4965
Call Bill Floor Manager Rep. George Miller: (202) 225-2095
Call Bill Floor Manager Rep. Henry Waxman: (202) 225-3976

URGENT PHONE CALLS THIS WEEK Let's make sure Speaker Nancy Pelosi hears our pleas for the Kucinich/Weiner Amendments. She has lied to us. Then call your represenative, and make sure he/she knows you support Single-Payer, Medicare-For-All.

All Congressional office numbers are here.

Fax System Still Works. Fax Now and Fax Often! And Fax Pelosi!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can still use our unique and free fax system to fax your federal legislators and various news media with your views. Remember, one of the faxes is for you to tell your own story. Use it now. Tell your story to Congress. Here is the link. It's quick, easy and free.
There are plenty of faxes to choose from. Now is no time to shut up and get run over. At least we can make a ruckus. Lets flood Capitol Hill with faxes this week! For instance, as the Weiner amendment to HR 3200 and the Kucinich amendment come for a vote on the House floor, use this fax to urge a vote for Medicare For All.
