". . . many ask why "farms" like Willet, Conklin and Buckeye are not shut down but allowed to continue operations with legal slaps on the wrist.

Many of you may ask why this is not under "animals." It's because the damage extends much further.

The "death on a factory farm" referred to in the graphic is not just about "animal rights on trial."

From the fields, where generations of modest, but hard-working, Americans have earnestly strived to earn an honest living, but are now being bullied into bankruptcy by Monsanto and bankers . . .

To the meals you serve, with love, to your own family (now suspiciously tainted with genetically modified foods, raised in secrecy) . . .

To the unemployment checks, that are about to expire, causing your dreams to be interrupted by growing unease . . .

That now leave you uninsured, and incapable of affording exorbitantly-priced health care and necessary medications . . .

Recognize the ever-present evidence of their effect on your every day; open your eyes to the collusion of your so-called "representatives" that allow the bills that support them (and jeopardize your right to a pursuit of happiness) to pass . . .

This is NOT a partisan issue . . .

It has become an issue of SURVIVAL!

Fight it EVERYWHERE you see it.

Start now; and alert others.

Thank you Just Carole!

This is about corporate greed, corruption and control, special interests, and pay-to-play lobbying. We need to focus on fighting corporate and political corruption to preserve our future!

Here are some suggestions:

1. - find how much your Senators and Representatives have received from corporate interests here:

2. - makes connections between money and politics transparent, to help citizens hold their legislators accountable. It tracks money and influence in the U.S. Congress and the California legislature, with more states to come.

3. Use the OpenSecrets and websites to find out how much money your Senators and Representatives have received. Share what you have found out with the media, on blogs, facebook, Twitter, etc.

4. MOST IMPORTANT -- CALL AND WRITE TO YOUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES. Confront those who are corrupt. HOLD YOUR LEGISLATORS ACCOUNTABLE. You can find your legislators’ contact information here:

5. Ask your legislators to sign the FIGHT WASHINGTON CORRUPTION pledge.

6. Take a look at:
Quote: is “a way for busy but concerned citizens to find their political voice in a in a system dominated by big money and big media.”

Please spread the word!

Salam and thank you so much Carole for this one. I was asked where i can purchase "halal" meat? It struck me to wonder..that is meat killed in a humane way. Muslims will not eat any other kind..I think here in CA the closest thing would be a Jewish meat market..but I don't even know where I would find that! As Jewish peoples also only eat kosher meats. I feel so sorry for people who have to work in places like this describes. Here in CA Mexican peoples are the slaves of choice...sad. I support them and love them for all the beautiful service they have given for us for years!! Corporations are evil..let us strive with a great jihad against them! xoxo love you girl! arij

Signed Carole, thanks~This is animal cruelty, abuse and violence toward God's dear and innocent creatures at it's worse and it's legal. This needs to be a crime and these places of ill repute need to be shut down for good and every single person who is an accessory should be prosecuted and imprisoned and treated the same way. Ultimately, justice will come be served...

The most chilling aspect of this story is the comment by the prosecuting attorney - 'in context, Mr. Conklin's actions were entirely appropriate'. When will the United States reign in these little self appointed gods and return to a justice system. At present the U.S. courts are substantially corrupt. Wild accusation? No. Whenever there is a legal system subject to political or economic influence instead of principles of jurisprudence and competence for appointment of office bearers and influencing case outcomes, that system can be said to be corrupt. It is time that the world and U.S. citizens together realized that the justiciary of the United States deserves international scorn for their acts of injustice. Such clear sighted Americans as our friend Just C. deserve that title but the courts do not. If ayone in that system objects to my assessment let them stand with her and not against her and proclaim the truth.

Thanks for signing.....Corporate Dairy Factory Farms

I suggest to anyone who has not viewed it to watch Food, Inc. Explains things very well.

Thanks Kit for the petition and Carole for promotion. We need to go back to the smaller local farmers. They at least treated their animals with much more respect, they were more closely related to the land and the animals under their care. We need to cut off the Corporate subsidies.

"How we treat the lesser lives under our care is what marks us as human. People who treat animals like this won't care for humans any more than than they do animals. And we pay more than just a moral price for treatment like this. The animals are not healthy. Neither is the meat.

Carole said: "Many of you may ask why this is not under "animals." It's because the damage extends much further."
I agree. There's nothing that goes on that is not directly tied to politics and government. These things cannot be separated from each other. Human beings are social creatures, and society suffers when people do NOT act politically - I use that word in the old sense: politic comes from the same root as polite, as in civil and social. How civil are we to each other when we cannot even treat an animal with kindness?

sooner or later enough farms will be busted for cruelty, enough videos will be seen, that such large corporate animal/farm industries will start watching their butts about these torturous behaviors of owners/employees.

we just got to keep hollering our objects to abuse to ALL ANIMAL LIFE, and ALL HUMAN LIFE.

corporations think they are hidden from public, doing thier behind the scenes business for profits. but the people see, the people know, and those inside those corporations aren't exactly holding back and keeping the code of "mum" on their lips either.

sooner or later these things are going to bust open. the people can and will take down corporate control...give it back to the people what is right and true again.

Thanks for keeping our "eyes on the prize", Carole and Kit.

I think you've both hit the proverbial nail on the head. This is not only about the unacceptable cruelty practiced against helpless animals, it's about the exploitation of us all by huge corporations as they've continued to sweep family farms up into the agri-business "combine"--and spew out dehumanized industrial-style farms in their wake. Their impact on our health, on our environment, on our cultural and social institutions,on our entire fabric of life is insidious and pervasive.

Here in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts we are fortunate enough to have a number of organizations active in the support of alternative agriculture. Foremost among them is CISA (Community in Support of Agriculture. ) Through their efforts, and the efforts of many other folks, we have a growing number of farmer's markets, CSA's, coops, community gardens, etc. They make it increasingly possible to make each meal a reflection of our deepest values. Without a great deal of effort it is possible to buy milk, meat and eggs from local farmer's who are intent on resisting the forces seeking to corporatize our lives and our lifestyles.

If you haven't already, seek out similar opportunities where you live.

Helene B (19)

For the love of God, take all the animals out and burn down this house of horrors. How can these gruesome, inhumane creeps allowed to walk among us, HOW?

Carole Sarcinello (338)
Tuesday September 7, 2010, 12:50 pm

Excellent suggestions, Lance. As I live in a rural area in Tennesee, our household has started doing just that for meat, eggs and some vegetables. (Others, we grow ourselves and share with neighbors, who reciprocate.)

And yes, the attitude of corporate farmers toward animals is much the same as the disdain they have for human rights.

"How can these gruesome, inhumane creeps allowed to walk among us, HOW?" Human slavrey was (and remains) no less cruel. It's based on profits - turning the sweat, blood and suffering of other people into gold. It's the same for these animals (I'm talking about the owners). Suffering that isn't their own means nothing to them.

I hope humans do the group mentality thing to the max and just start taking these ugly beings out.
Bang Bang.
We'd be doing the globe a huge favor and ridding the world of this evil.
Let's take out the corporations with violence if necessary. Bomb the buildings. Follow the execs home in their car and take them out with a silencer and leave them on the side of the road.
I know this is a terrible thing to say, but jail time is not enough of a punishment for poisoning our food, our water supply and the air. They have to be stopped. Remember there only a small percentage of the population against such a large volume of citizens.
God forgive me, but I think they should suffer serious consequences for this unconscionable behavior.
And I am a peace loving person. Sorry to vent like this, but I hate big corporations and the Supreme court that they have in their pocket.
I manufactured a children's rug and the same major carpet mill that produced my rugs also stole my intellectual property. Two lawyers later my case was going to be so expensive that the lawyers ran from it.

It is hard to believe that anyone could treat animals in so savage and barbaric a manner. It is equally hard to believe that even after documentation of that behavior, government agencies, prosecutors, and judges have not taken it seriously and shut down the facilies and sent the perpetrators to prison for LONG terms.

All of use who are outraged by the brutal treatment of animals will have to continue writing, protesting, as well as supporting animal rights and farm animal rights groups to get this stopped.

I could hog tie my family members, pry open their eyelids, make sure there's no wax in their ears and make them watch and hear all the documentary films on what goes on in factory farms for days. but they still eat meat. go figure. There must be some sort of genetic mutation that goes on that makes people resistant to what they don't want to hear/see/or feel.As for myself, the meat department in the store looks like a bunch of body parts pulled from a train wreck- totally inedible. The thing that IS appealing is the smell of some cooking meats...but it's all hickory smoke and mirrors...chemicals. the sad thing now is that soy is now processed with chemicals. I guess we do the best we can- sign petitions, and hope that the next generation will have advertising resistant genes.

I am no. 700 on the petiion. I also commented. I am glad people go undercover to expose the creeps of animal abuse. These creeps need to be taken out of the gene pool. Out of the pool you creeps!! Animal cruelty, soon, will be a thing of the past and will be a heavy duty felony. Let us see how you like the abuse you receive from jail, Ms. animal abuser-and somebody's B****. hah! yay for the animals, down with creeps.

I’m sorry, but I cannot sign the petition. I completely agree with what Carole said, and I think she expressed her convictions beautifully. But the article written by ‘Miss Kitty’ contains over-emotive language, exaggerations, and untruths, while omitting important evidence. I know I will get howled down for this, but any case involving law has to be precise and accurate. It has to present factual evidence, and proof that a violation of one or more person’s rights has occurred, or that a law has been seriously and deliberately breached.

The misinformation Miss Kitty wrote concerning the Conklin Dairy farm incident proved to me instantly that this petition would go nowhere. In fact, it could well damage the case, and allow the worst of the meat industry to continue even stronger than it is now. This horrific possibility prevents me from signing the petition.

The facts that should be presented are simple. Animals deprived of sunlight, freedom to move, maternal and social contact, appropriate diet, veterinary care and humane handling are suffering cruelty. There are laws about cruelty that would prevent factory farms from operating.
More facts are that antibiotics, hormones and other chemical and natural waste is damaging human health and the environment. There are laws concerning health and environment that would prevent factory farms from operating.

Why are these laws not invoked? Corporate power and government complicity. Will this petition address this? No, but it will remind them to tighten up their little scheme, and make it even harder to fight.

Signed # 32. The only way to stop this inhumane treatment of animals is to boycott all the products these companies sell. We should also inform all retail outlets why we are boycotting them. The laws regarding animal welfare are far too lax and need to be changed asap.
Thanks Carole and Kit.

So many people are unaware of the these cruelties. Unfortunately, too many are also unaware of how animals are slaughtered for food consumption effects those who eat that meat. Thanks Carole for this important post which I have shared with others.

I too wish to thank Kit and Carole for the effort of launching this petition and post which I of course signed and noted. But I also largely agree with the points Lynda H. and stan b. are making. First of all, going to the ROOT of the problem would naturally be the best solution, which is to STOP THE (Over) PRODUCTION of animals and meat for various obvious reasons. Since this goal cannot easily be achieved in the forseeable future we need to go step by step within the possibilities the law offers and seek out alternatives. More Farmers markets are a step in the right direction and I am glad to see that Ma is going a greener way as Lance Smith is telling us.
One more thing many of you perhaps could do is PRINT OUT and hang flyers of such revealing reports and petitions to your local supermarkets and retailers. Let them know that you refuse to buy their products from such sources for they need to know WHY you boycott.

Wednesday September 8, 2010, 3:03 am
Lynda and Angelica... Intelligent and good comments. I too have signed, but agree with what you said. I want to thank Kit and Carol for tying their very best to do something about this sickening and multifaceted problem. How I hope and pray that one day soon public pressure will see an end to this intolerable situation that is a blight on our lovely world.

Wealth for the greedy is like drinking seawater, the more you drink, the more thirsty you get. the consequences of their actions and the lifes they ruin, the torture they inflict is of no importance when it comes to money and power. these people will learn a valuable lesson when it is too late for them and the animals that suffered at their hands. I believe you cannot pass on untill you have grown spiritually and opened your heart to love and compassion.

Yesterday, on my way back from shopping, I saw an old farmer guiding his cows across the road to the barn, when he saw me, he stops the last cow from crossing by strocking her head gently, then finally kissing her eyebrow. I wanted to see this beautiful event again and again and in slow motion. I was absolutely taken by this pure love, by an old man's pure soul.

Thank you so much dear, dear Carole for posting this story. This food and Monsanto problem is one of those problems that really should cause people to sit up and take notice, even if 50% of the population is in lala land from prescription drugs (another huge problem that should cause people to sit up and take notice!)

I'm going to borrow this quote from the first comment posted here: "This is about corporate greed, corruption and control, special interests, and pay-to-play lobbying. We need to focus on fighting corporate and political corruption to preserve our future!".....................

Yes it's all about those things Care A so eloquently pointed out. One thing that MUST become common knowledge among the majority of "we the people" so the RIGHT ACTION can begin to take place is the fact that our Federal, State, County and City Governments are simply nothing more than PRIVATELY OWNED CORPORATIONS.............It's a lot for one to wrap their brain around if they haven't already been exposed to this truth, but it IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE. The President of the US GOVERNMENT (CORPORATION) is NOTHING MORE than the CEO FOR THE US GOVERNMENT CORPORATION, period. This is why they consistently make promises and do the exact opposite. All CORPORATIONS have ONE THING IN COMMON, they care only about MONEY & PROFITS. This means that our very own GOVERNMENT(S) have a huge conflict of interest. How can they represent "we the people", when they main interest is profit margins. So the next time you wonder why congressman so and so or some other politician's actions, just think about the PROFIT agenda. Attached to the PROFIT AGENDA IS the RAW POWER AGENDA, but that' for another time.

It took years of serious research to finally figure out the root cause of not only America's woes, but the worlds woes as well. It aint pretty. It's time for everyone to WAKE UP, even the 50% who have been drugged into a stupor. We all MUST WAKE UP unless we simply do not care about the welfare of our kids, everyone's kids and the welfare of ALL others. If we don't become a UNITED FRONT AND SAY NO, NO, NO to the government's corporate BS and DEMAND that everyone in office UPHOLD THEIR OATH OF OFFICE, then I honestly don't know what will happen.

I have been a lifelong democrat. I am no longer proud to be a democrat. I finally realized dem/rep, doesn't matter, it's JUST ONE CORPORATE POLITICAL PARTY PRETENDING TO BE 2 political parties who represent We the people. They do NOT represent We the People. They are entrenched in Biz as usual which is PROFIT MARGINS AND INVESTMENTS. How many people are aware that it is UNLAWFUL for attorney's to hold office, any office? It is outlined in our constitution that attorneys MAY NOT be government officials. How many realize that virtually ALL government officials ARE IN FACT ATTORNEYS!!!

Nothing is as it seems. In the interest of profit margins, a great and fraudulent deception has been perpetrated against every American citizen since circa 1860 and it simply continued to escalate to the point where we find ourselves today. It's beyond high time for ALL OF US to become real American's who recognize it is We the people who have the TRUE VALUE and we ARE worthy and deserving of having TRUE FREEDOM, and stand up for something that means something instead of playing the "divide and conquer game that says the dems are bad or the rep's are bad and/or "my team is better than yours." Both parties HAVE BEEN BOUGHT AND PAID FOR. It's that simple. The sooner everyone sees THE TRUTH, the BETTER!

The sad fact remains that people are to far removed from food!

So long as people get their breakfast from a box, then we will see similar videos year after year!

So long as people can by lunch at a chain restaurant, then we will see similar videos year after year!

So long as people can buy meat in a plastic wrapped Styrofoam container, then we will see similar videos year after year!

So long as people can buy milk in a plastic jug, then we will see similar videos year after year!

Mega-Farms. Mass Transit. Exploding Population. Dwindling Resources. There are no easy solutions for the very many difficult issues that mankind faces!

With sadness, I signed your petition!

Keep up the good work and thought provoking posts!

I only wish I could find even one issue listed to argue with, but alas you are correct. We live in shutter houses, don't speak to our neighbors, shop in chain stores, supporting with vigor and justifications even the worst of them. Yet are surprised at the evil background of the all important convenience of our lives.

The #1 excuse by profiteers to bully others into giving them their way is that "we're running a business here" and in a crapitalist society, that means you can't touch them because they are out to make a profit and it's just ungodly to get in someone's way of "running a business."

Never mind they are breaking *current* laws.

Never mind they trying to wheel and deal with sympathetic "officials" who are letting them off lightly.

Never mind that the public was horrified to learn of the abuses.

The "justice" system does not appear to be interested in prosecuting brutality to animals, especially when committed by a business. The prosecutors and judges should hear from us every time this kind of travesty occurs.

It's been going on for a long time...

The corporations that run the US would like
you to stop engaging in the growing,
production and distribution of food outside
of "appropriate" channels.

A recent incident - police entering an organic
food co-op with guns drawn in search of
"illegal" food - has dramatized the situation.
