It is CRIMINAL the way this issue is being ignored by the media and our government. I encourage all to help spread the word!

As you will see, "depleted" uranium does not render it to being innocuous -- to intended victims, collateral damage . . . and even our own troops, who will return and face its consequences.

We cannot permit this cover-up to continue!

Thanks Carole for sharing this, its the price we pay for having a corrupt government, and they have been corrupt since the beginning of time, all we have hold onto now is together our FATE and HOPE of over coming all the trials and tribulations they have buried us with, especially knowing all the time it was only money and Greed of the dark senseless man that created this evil upon the Earth.

Thanks to all who have noted, and commented, here.

I agree, Glenda. This purposely blacklisted truth (with our governments and media in collusion) is already having disastrous impacts on those countries where these weapons have been -- and are continuing to be -- used!

It is horrible. The direct and the future effect of this depleted uranium had been seen clearly in Iraq.Newly born children whose parents were subject to it.This crime against humanity was committed by the US forces in Iraq.It had been also reported that Israel used it against the Palestinians.Nothing had been reported-to the best of my knowledge-about this deadly weapon on 9/11.

From ICBUW (who sent me the video):

"Campaigners have called for support for a new bill that seeks to identify members of the US armed forces who may have been exposed to depleted uranium and which aims to ensure health monitoring for veterans.
17 February 2011 - ICBUW

The bill was submitted in January by U.S. Representative José E. Serrano, who represents the 16th Congressional District of New York in the Bronx. Serrano served in the 172nd Support Battalion of the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the 1960s. Similar bills have been submitted in previous years but have foundered through lack of support.

US activists and veterans' groups are urging supporters to contact their Representatives at their Washington DC offices to call on them to support or co-sponsor the text. The Depleted Uranium Screening and Testing Act, as it is known, has been referred to the Committee on Armed Services.

Petition to ban the use of depleted Uranium
Your signature has been delivered to: The United Nations

Horrific and those who have had this within their Power to make the decisions to use this have no Hearts and their inner light is gone to blackness. All we can do, as Carol has done, is expose this and to bring light to this subject in hopes that this madness will be stopped.

I am so sorry that my name has to be attached to a Country that claims to be on the side of Human Rights and Dignity but shows little of it in the way it does business and makes policy. As I was taught when I was a wee child growing up, words are cheap, look at the actions of someone and the Truth will be shown. The same is for Countries look at it's actions not at it's words.

There is another major war going on so if you have not signed the petition please consider doing so. Let us get out of there before we do more damage than has been done thus far.

You are a citizen of a country where genocidal force was used. I challenge those who proclaim that "use of the atomic bomb saved lives."

So easy (and smug) to proclaim a "victory," without acknowledging the devastation left in the path of this weapon.

An egregious act (mass murder) is NEVER justifiable. (Disgusting that this heinous behavior is heralded as a positive step toward peace.)

And, SHAME on those who choose to assuage their consciences by choosing to believe so.

It defies my reason to understand how so many people can comprehend the injustice implied by chaining and starving animals, and factory farming, and cruelty to children -- but can separate that when it goes beyond their own national borders.

If these acts were perpetrated on American soil, we would NEVER justify them. (Much the same mentality of bullies.)

Please, dear sentient members, NEVER betray your respect for life because of your allegiance to man-made borders.

We are one -- and to survive, we need to remember that.

My friend Carole -- 1) thank you so much for this information... sickening that it is. How hypocritical can this country get?! How horrible that this issue isn't on the Front Page in our media!

Over and over in human societies, it seems that NIMBY carries the day. And it's just amazing how many people around me -- reasonably intelligent, informed, sane people -- could not care less about what's happening anywhere else -- as if that isn't eventually going to bite THEM in the butt, too, on this tiny shrinking planet. Very difficult to deal with such apathy and stupidity.

If I heard correctly, this video is not actually saying that all these effects are certainly true, it is saying these effects COULD BE true. I am a little suspicious when the narrator says something CAN do this and MAY do that. And the whole premise of this video is that the weapon should be proved safe BEFORE using it rather than the civilian population proving it unsafe AFTER its use. That all makes sense to me. So I signed the petition because if these conditions ARE true, then I've signed; and if the conditions prove NOT to be true then no harm is done by my signing. Don't really know why I felt compelled to share this line of thought with y'all. But I hope it is useful for someone! Thanks Carole. (I still don't know what ICBUW stands for, but guess I'll find it somewhere.)

Campaign: International Petition to Ban Uranium Weapons

Uranium weapons, often called 'depleted' uranium (DU) weapons, are manufactured from radioactive waste materials produced during the nuclear fuel chain and the production of nuclear weapons. They cause widespread and long lasting contamination of the environment. These weapon systems are radiologically and chemically toxic.

Many people - innocent civilians especially children, military veterans, industry workers - have illnesses and medical problems, which may be due to their exposure to 'depleted' uranium. In areas such as southern Iraq, where uranium munitions were used by the US and the UK, there have been reports of increases in cancers, leukaemia and birth defects.

At least 18 countries possess these weapons, the use of which is contrary to existing humanitarian law.

We, the people, need to let governments and the United Nations know that these weapons can have no part in a humane and caring world. Every signature counts! These online signatures will be added to more than 200,000 paper signatures already collected

We call for your support to demand:

1.An immediate end to the use of uranium weapons.
2.Disclosure of all locations where uranium weapons have been used and immediate removal of the remnants and contaminated materials from the sites under strict control.
3.Health surveys of the 'depleted' uranium victims and environmental investigations at the affected sites.
4.Medical treatment and compensation for the 'depleted' uranium victims.
5.An end to the development, production, stockpiling, testing, trade of uranium weapons.
6.A Convention for a Total Ban on Uranium Weapons.

As organisation

One of the things I learned very early in my years of awakening to government lies was: "Find out WHY they're NOT talking about it."

You are being given exposure. You have the choice of examining it further . . . or ignoring it.

Some people seek truth -- and others are content to be deluded.

Cheers Carole and Thank you Dandelion for forwarding.

I remember when Uhoud pointed this out on her news, last year. There is a high ratio of children being born with deformities in Iraq and a possible link to Uranium. Didn't the US and UK governments say they didn't use chemical weapons in Iraq? I have also just read that Australia definitely used it too!. Sorry, it is late and I am tired, but I want to make sure that I understand this correctly. Please point out if I am incorrect. Cheers..

Uranium used, recycled, or left in the ground, is but a single way we humans have devised to destroy a well balanced planet, that had devloped many ways to Keep the balance without humans complicated interference. How 'bout we start judging our "superiority" on ways we develop that do not involve murdering what we perceive to be our enemies?

Carole Sarcinello (338)
Sunday February 27, 2011, 6:20 pm

Ya know . . . THAT is something that's bothered me for some time.

In our state/federal governments (and most religions), we are taught that it is NEVER acceptable to take the life of another human being -- unless our own lives are put at impending (and provable in a court of law) risk.

Why does that scenario change when WE (as a country) are the attackers, and our government cannot meet that same burden of proof? Why are we so willing to deliver our own children to this carnage? Why is questioning that considered to be unpatriotic?

When did "patriotic" become synonymous with "unthinkingly obedient?"

Robert S (111)

How 'bout we start judging our "superiority" on ways we develop that do not involve murdering what we perceive to be our enemies?

That would be splendid and I agree...thats what made/makes me a fan and voter for/ of Carter.

If I were a soldier who would have had to hit the beach of mainland Japan, I'm not sure I would agree with that which both you and me today find unthinkable. Hindsight was not a convenience they had my friend.

This is posted on my profile:

Incitement To Disobedience

I wish that I were able to incite
Young men in every land to disobey
For wars will cease when men refuse to fight.

To kill our brothers for a nations right
Is not a method we can use today.
I wish that I were able to incite.

When leaders threaten to resort to might,
I know that idols all have feet of clay.
For wars will cease when men refuse to fight.

The cause of peace is shared by black and white
And freedom fighters show a better way.
I wish that I were able to incite.

Non-violent resistance has no bite
While undecided pacifists delay.
For wars will cease when men refuse to fight.

With power to reinforce in what I write
The things that protest-singers try to say,
I wish that I were able to incite
For wars will cease when men refuse to fight.

Thank you, Carole for this video. EU (Enriched uranium) was made in the 40's or so. Later on, DE (Depleted uranium was manufactured around the '70's, and is used in current wars (91 on). It has been shown to cause cancers, birth defects, fatigue, memory loss, and long term health effects, as this is a toxic metal. This affects humans, animals, the environment, the air we breathe. This must...indeed, be banned. (Look at Iraq!) Signed!!!

Thank you Just Carole for the link to Hiroshima 24 hours after the Bomb. If that doesn't make someone question the use of WMD's then there is something wrong with that person. ALL bombs and wars should be eliminated - Maybe the leaders who call for war should be the one's that go to their own wars. If only "we" would refuse...

Noted, but am late in replying thanks to Dandelion for a new forward. Radiation isn't to be taken lightly. During 1974/77 Les worked on a squadron of planes with "Sniffer Pods" These planes had to fly through a Radioactive Could after a Nuclear bomb was dropped, even if it were for trial. He was in Midway Island for 4 months in 1975 when the whole world seemed to have gone mad and dropped all sorts of Nuclear bombs. The US and UK included. He said the fithiest bomb was dropped by China. not once but a few times, and every time the planes had to fly through these clouds and when they came back the Ground crew of which Les was one had to take the Sniffer Pods off and check the filters inside for what was left behind. After that they had to clean the planes and then themselves as they were covered in Nuclear waste. After one of the Chinese bombs one of the planes was so "HOT" it's tyres burnt marks in the small runway on Midway Island. Les has been healthy until 2 years ago when all of a sudden he was taken ill and got different illnesses after illnesses.
No one is going to tell me it was just "Old Age"! He has tried to contact his friends from all the squadrons he was on but had no luck with 27 Squadron. None of them contacted him. Most of the blokes were younger than him and no one is going to tell me that none of them have a computer as some of them started families afterwards, some were still single. He contacted quite a few from the other Squadrons and with him being so ill now that he has no energy left which makes him unable to push my wheelchair made me wonder and I started thinking back. Why wouldn't the other countries let the planes land for refuelling after 4 months? They had to do air to air refuelling. One of the planes was parked as far away from the living quarters as possible and still made marks in the asphalt. That's how HOT it was. What about the Air crew, who had to fly through these clouds? What about the ground crew who had to clean and work on these planes? Les was an engineer and worked on the engines which didn't get cleaned after every flight. They were still working on them when they got home until the engine had done it's hours and had to be replaced. All the other bits and pieces they had to work on? What about them? Why did he all of a sudden get so ill that I have times that I am afraid that I'm loosing him? It is my thought it all goes back to 1974/77

I can well understand how you are all feeling right now and how the people of Iraq and Afghanistan will be thinking and are being afraid as well, especially the Service personell. Ours are with them as well and they are using the bullets as well! I am just too scared for all of them after seeing my husband, what's going on with him and I've seen the children born in Iraq the last few years!

Good video Carole, one full of good reason and data and no hysteria or hype. How refreshing!
Radiation from weapons used as armor piercing missiles and bullets against tanks etc. can definitely harm people in residual amounts IMO.
Depleted uranium used in this way should not be allowed. Should be banned.
Doesn't matter what country uses them or in what country they use them.
I'm sure if they want to wage war they can find many other alternatives than this type of weapon.

Everyone is missing the real point here!
Depleted uranium can only become a weapon, we allow uranium to be mined and depleted!
Nuclear power is the stupidest thing mankind has ever done, because of it's waste! It has a half life of 50,000 years, yet they cry that smoking is bad for our health! Hypocrits and vipers have created this problem in the first place, to the point that i believe that god put mankind here to create toxic waste, that will become nuclear power crystals down the road for the future!
The waste from these power plants, being deadly was suppose to be strictly regulated and watched over, and we can see how good of job they are doing!
Even if we quit producing depleted uranium today, there is still millions of tons of this stupidity to deal with, and it is worth nothing sitting in it's vaults, but worth millions to terrorists!
Smokers are being held accountable for their second hand smoke, while allowing the real polluters to pettle their second hand depleted byproducts to the higgest bidders, or an unsuspecing public and with the byproducts of making alluminum...sodium flourite, that they put in our drinking water!
Depleted uranium is also in smoke detectors, and the new mandated Chinese lightbulbs!
The only thing that you can make from fossil fuel that you can't make with Hemp is polution, but polution appears to be legal!
Depleted tires, cans and packageing litters our road ways, with no accountability to it's man-u-factures, yet they want to hold consumers accountable for second hand smoke...B.S.
Our governments, business and science has created this problem, and it is time to hold them accountable!
Make the tire producers buy back all of their depleted tires, and make every gram of depleted uranium accounted for, and for all of our sakes outlaw mineing it and depleting it a crime against humanity!
Legalize Hemp and it's 50,000 uses, and end the need for corporate terrorists, by outlawing corporations, that are creating this certain death in the first place!

John Goodspeed (79)
Monday February 28, 2011, 8:59 am
I didn't know that "depleated" uranium was still radioactive. Thanks for bringing me up to speed on the issue.

Of course radioactive objects scattered all over former battle sites would pose a hazzard to people and animals who live or work near them and, just like abandoned land mines, should always be removed and rendered safe. In today's world, where government is too timid about levying necessary taxes, legislators are bound to complain about the cost of a removal program, but that should be no excuse. The stuff must be recovered.

My suggestion would be to not use it in the first place.

This is, unfortunately, not a new story. In Hawaii in the 1940's tests were made trying to deliver nuclear shells via artillery ! A secret Japanese site carried out experiments in remote China in WW II using radioactive materials as WMD. And the prepared 'military necessity 'rationale' has never overcome the missing scruples of the Military Industrial Complex. For those who recognize Mussolini's description of Fascism as authoritative...this is why we must petition 'until we are blue in the face', expecting little except vilification in return.
This is the 'sanitized version. Reports from Fallujah in Iraq, the Balkans, Afghanistan exceed horrific and revolting in their impact : yet they are really an 'improvement' on Agent Orange from the maker of Roundup.
Some of this is nightmare material.

Thanks Carol; its so sad that life comes so cheap, in today's world. America being the Super-Power; should be the Protector of the worlds people; but instead it has become a TERRORIST STATE that invades, maimes and destroys millions of innocent lives, without any repurcussions to bear. They are not answerable to anyone; as a result they do what they please and have become a power hungry and evil force, which only chases wealth, in every nook and corner of the world, for the sole purpose of expanding the wealth of the Elite Few. To them, the lives of your soldiers, and the citizens of countries they attack, means absolutely nothing as long as their PERSONAL wealth(oil) is secured.

If your soldiers refuse to fight there will be NO MORE WARS!!!

Do you think, the Elite Few will ever RISK THE LIVES OF THEIR OWN FAMILIES or go FIGHT WARS themselves??? NEVER!!!; so if there is no one to go and do their dirty deeds, then obviously they will be FORCED to STOP these unpatriotic and unprovoked wars on innocent people!!!.

TAKE care folks ; all the best; peace and love to all.

Carole Sarcinello (338)
Monday February 28, 2011, 12:12 pm

Yes, Mary. That is frustratingly/infuriatingly true!

But, we must continue to fight! Unlike the government's choice to keep its citizens ignorant, the opposite is true for those who resist. The more people are enlightened, the better our chances for solidarity.

If anyone in here can help: I need a medical testimony or a medical prove what DU causing to human health.
There are a few groups discussions here on this topic and albeit I contacted some of the autors of certain educational articles of this real threat, I could not find something like medical evidence, conclusions, this abhorrent deformations are caused by Depleted Uranium.

John Goodspeed: Decay meter time of this stuff is billions of years and the dust blows away contaminating the whole planet already.
Also this could be a reason for the Golf War 's veteran diseases.

Thanks for bringing this to us Carole. As I talked about on the Fallujah anniversary thread of Peasant Diva's, there will be no justice for the people of Fallujah, and there will be no tracking of the illnesses that OUR soldiers will have brought back with them from physically surrounding Fallujah for three weeks while generals who never went near the slaughter stationed them while they dropped DP and white sulpher bombs on the trapped people. If the American people actually knew that their military leaders used these bombs on helpless civilians AND exposed our sons to the same bombs, they would be horrified. We called Saddam a monster for gassing the Kurds while we at that very moment dropped DP and white phosphorus bombs on Fallujah and slaughtered the majority of its population. And of course, no news teams were allowed anywhere near the city to witness the aftermath.

If we as a people can take our government back from the corporations/military industrial complex, then there will be a lot of people held accountable for many, many atrocities.

There are 25 different uranium isotopes and 3 isomeres in uranium.
This one, used in DEPLETED URANIUM has a decay meter of 4,468billion years.

Mac, the scary thing is, what if we can't regain our republic? The world sees America as one entity, not a rouge government at war against it's own people as well! When the world retaliates against us, our supposed government, will be out of harms way, in underground bunkers, foreign retreates, underwater cities or the space station, and we the people will be heald accountable for our governments sins of terror!
Are we responsible for our government and their actions? YES WE ARE!

MmAway M (506)
Sunday March 6, 2011, 1:12 pm
Could be that TODAY being a weekend and a SUNDAY we are just not getting the correct #'s? UMMM

Carole Sarcinello (338)
Sunday March 6, 2011, 1:18 pm

No. I've seen this happen many times before.

When some people post a petition, I don't think they realize that, in order for it to be successful, they have a responsibility to actively promote it. In this case, the petition was started in September 2010; and I (Signer #25) found it (February 27, 2011) when looking for one that needed signatures to go with this news submission.

(Worse? The author's signature goal is an unattainable 50,000!)

What can I say?

MmAway M (506)

Over 200 notes, but somehow I missed this back in February. (Probably the time you were not speaking to me...)

Well, this issue is back in the news because Nov 6th is the International Day of Action Against DU Weapons & a different film is having a special showing, as part of the many worldwide events being organized to mark the day. :

From the International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons: USA: Washington DC - Public meeting and film screening 16th Nov: The American University Community Action and Social Justice Coalition invites you to learn about how radioactive waste is being used in wars. - The documentary 'URANIO 238 – The Pentagonīs Dirty Pool', produced by Pablo Ortega, won the prize for best short documentary in the Uranium Film Festival, which took place May 22 to 28 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. URANIO 238 had also won best documentary in the Costa Rican Movie and Video Festival in 2009.

(this last link contains info on the film & links to YouTube where it can be viewed in segments)

I've just discovered a new post by a new C2 member from Brazil, Marcia:

Wouldn't it be a great way of welcoming her if we all noted her post, on the Uranium Film Festival 2012, held in Rio de Janeiro, only its 2nd year? (Check out the films shown for the 1st year on the festival site she's posted: there was 'When the Dust Settles', 'Uranio 238', 'the Return of Navajo Boy' & many others that I don't know of.)

A member only since Saturday (Nov 6th), this may very well be her first post, too!
