As I recently wrote to one of my dear friends:

"Drone warfare is one of the most (of many) egregious depths to which this country has allowed itself to sink!

It's vomitous to me how little attention is paid to the issue."

N/S....lets hope these petitions will help end these innoncent lives being taken ...all for the sake of our 'military industrial complex' and it's $pecial interest groups/individuals.

Drone warfare is a shameful practice on every level ~ there is no excuse to put innocent lives at risk. Happily noted and signed and shared ~ Thank you Carole!

Wednesday November 27, 2013, 6:44 pm
Vomitous-exactly-and the administration is probably hoping the public-over all the other current issues and matters- has forgotten that they are yet to come out with more info on this, the "colletaral damage", the true numbers of that etc.. they said they would, after the investigation-so WHERE ARE THE REVELATIONS???
Grayson probably also stopped hoping/believing in ever learning more behind that "murder game"-so this petition is a correct consequence, if only it would help.

Carole Sarcinello (338)
Wednesday November 27, 2013, 6:53 pm

I agree, Angie.

Still, I think it's important for us (acting as the media which has sadly sold-out to corporations and forgotten its purpose to illuminate and investigate) to act as best we can to educate the public about TRUTH.

Instead of feeling helpless, I only feel even more intent upon spreading knowledge.

Some day, these cautionary and vilifying words from activists (in the government and private arenas) will be noted. And I, as one of many for whom I have deep respect, will be proud that I/we spoke out.

Drone warfare is cowardly. I don't give a rip if it is strategic, strategy does NOT apply to human lives. WE are better than this, we, if we wish to lead the free world, can NOT do things like this. Yes, there should be a world court where villains could be tried and punished, but we can NOT assume the role of judge, jury and executioner. I don't care our justification. I am a veteran of the Viet Nam "war", or survivor depending on one looks at it, but I enlisted for honorable reasons. I felt I owed this country something for my freedom, I was young and stupid, but I was grateful I grew up here and had the ability to get drunk with my friends and stare at the sky as we talked about what Viet Nam might be like and that nowhere else in the world did kids like us have so much freedom. I graduated high school in 1967, so the war pretty much dominated my teen years. My family is 4th generation Swedish on one side, 2nd on the other, and all of them served in this country's wars. We were poor, I got the highest ACT score in my school, but had no money for college. I never considered Canada, I was too young to think that through.

Had I though, I would still have enlisted. Freedom is never free, it is paid for in blood and has always been. In 1967, I just knew a draft was coming and that by enlisting I could get a college degree, choose my job, and hopefully avoid Viet Nam. I enlisted for clerical duty. Little did I know that every infantry company has a clerk who carries not only an M16 but a portable typewriter too. I was watched over though, if you have seen my website you know by whom, and ended up on the Italian Riviera as a payroll clerk. From where, I volunteered for Viet Nam. Not crazy, and I will explain that to anyone interested. My point, though it took a while to get here, is that even then we defended our policies with ourselves. We did not pick a grainy image (though I tell you those night scopes WERE grainy - TET was terrifying on the perimeter) and kill everything near it.

No less a personage than Malala Yousafzai, now 16, in her meeting with our President, asked him to STOP the drone attacks, too many innocents (collateral damage my ass) were killed, and they were not only not stopping terrorists but creating more of them. She is right. WE are wrong. This is an unconscionable act that must be stopped. I don't care about our strategic interests, I don't care about our intelligence, I don't care who or who not might be in that car or that house, we do NOT have the right to murder in the name of freedom. We don't. No one does. Our government really should know that. If ours doesn't, whose will?

I STILL think I owe this country something for my freedom, for the ability to write this, but I cannot support murder without due process. We have a constitution, I support that and I do not think it supports drone warfare. If we want to lead the world, then let us do it lovingly, peacefully, by showing our way is best because we love the most. What else has ever worked? What else will?

I'm sorry, Carole, for hijacking your thread. It's Thanksgiving, forgive me? :^) gene

Grayson steps up to the plate again! applause! Does anyone remember when they first heard of drones? how about the "conspiracy" of them attacking humans? then about them attacking innocent humans? UGH! it just keeps getting worse. I worked on a pilot program with drones. Helped commission the ones they left all over the place in Iraq. (for real, actually left them laying around like trash). Helped getting them re-commissioned to be used for work to save the Rhino's against poachers. Now the program is being advertised and well accepted, but for a few years we could never even mention the word "drone".
But, the main point here is this. The military left many of those nasty killing machines laying all over the place. Not much is mentioned about that, wonder why?

Carole Sarcinello (338)

Angie, I'm not in any fear of the "other faction dropping in here." I assume they're watching . . . and if they speak, they're easily recognizable.

Also, keep in mind how many other countries have ORDERED them from the US for their own use...even IF the US were to abandon or decrease the use there'll be others to follow. I was shocked when I heard even my own country applied for them, but I think then decided for Israel's drone type instead.

This (and most other hand-shaking countries) are no longer even trying to hide the fact that war is income to profiteers. (Consideration for the parents of children on both sides -- soldiers and victims -- is inconsequential . . . and as stated here, "collateral damage.")

There is no noble cause. It's shamelessly and flagrantly displayed in the manner of a commonly known, and accepted, neighborhood whore.

Makes ya proud, huh?

Totally agree with Barry, too-star already sent. This silence/apathy is the more strange as Obama has repeatedly and explicitly ASKED that the public demands of him what they want to see done! I'm not sure if the reasons Carole mentions are the only ones... I do think there's also way too much indifference out there. Maybe much talk but little action.

Petition signed last night via e-mail.

Too many innocent lives are being destroyed by these drone attacks.

Perhaps one of the many reasons why US does not stop the drones is that
the military, private contractors and stockholders are profiting from this technology.
We need to end this "war profiteering".

We need to cut the bloated military budget by 50%.

Ah, but drones are such Clean Killers (not!) & make war so much "safer" (unless you're on the recieving end)! Making War "safe & clean" is sick - like tasers & mace for cops to use on innocents as well as "perps" make those things SEEM harmless enough..but Everybody suffers!!! War should NEVER be easy!!! Outsourcing Death to mechanical instruments is NO different than dropping nukes or pushing buttons to send ICBMs a world away, but it makes those steps that much Easier! When you can wash your hands of it, it's easier Next time. Saving American soldiers by sacrificing "enemy" civilians is not acceptable, not moral, & not a deterrent to anything!

As for "legal war," I believe Senator Grayson was referring to this:
Definition of Aggression, United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3314 (XXIX)
which sets forth the criteria for "legal" acts of conflict (war) as defined by member states of the United Nations.
Zoe and Art, thank you for including your petition -- which I have gladly signed.  It is usually incumbent upon petition authors to promote their own petitions; which is usually done by sharing with friends (some of whom will also pass on to their friends), posting news (such as this article), posting in groups and other social media sites, etc.

Bless your heart Gene. You said: "Our government really should know that. If ours doesn't, whose will?"

We do not have a Government any longer by for and of the people, we have a Government by for and the now so called "people" Corporations.

The main goal is profit, at any cost. People, animals, land, or any of those other human desires of the heart is not a like a runaway train and no one that should be behind the drivers seat is either there or if they are too busy enjoying the person profits while the destruction lays in it's wake.

Drone warfare has the appearance of sanitising war. But what it does to the average person is remove the human factor. War is ugly, barbarous, dirty. I think that if we adhered to the 18th century phrase "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!", people would have a better appreciation for the true toll of war . . . and maybe we might think twice about going to war.

Having said that, as long as there are people in charge of war that actually don't risk life and limb, people will always go to war for power and profit.

Lynn S (235)

Didn't Obama promised to publish report of drones? I would very much love to see a complete list of killed, crimes they were accused for, proof of their guilt and verdict by a legal institutional body. This could provide some legality to drone killings, although I would still object on the ground that those people were not informed of their accusations, they were not enable to provide their defence and the verdict was not delivered to them. They were killed out-of-the-blue, public can't tell why and, because of this, it is OK to say they were victims.

Also, some witnesses of drone killings have testified in Congress last month and a massive audience of 5 Representatives attended those hearings. I can comment on this fact only in very obscene and offensive language, so I'd better stop now.

#6542 have signed. Thanks, Carole. Everybody should sign. Apart from killing innocent, one journalist said that drones are "the best recruit tool Al Quaida could dream of".
