The job of the regulators is to make certain that no one is above the law no matter how powerful or well-connected they are. The Truth in Settlements Act is one way to keep their feet to the fire to see that promise through.

We MUST support our legislators who are trying -- under daunting circumstances -- to protect the public's right to transparency!

Most certainly signed. This woman has come out of the gate full steam ahead. She has spoken up more and has done more in her short time than others have done being there longer.

Those who oppose her will send all they have after her to discredit her and to see she isn't elected again when the time comes. All of us, no matter what State we reside in must do whatever we can to have this woman's back and support her in what she is doing. For she is doing it for ALL of us, even the ones who don't think so.

For clarification, although the URL for this story is: "donate.elizabethwarren.com" . . .

This is NOT a request for money; it is asking for your signature on a petition showing support of a new Elizabeth Warren/Tom Coburn bipartisan bill against secret "backroom deals."

Just signed from email, I give my full support to Elizabeth Warren. Her ideas are practical and functional, while she fights for our public rights and safety. She and Bernie Sanders are a model of the excellence we should expect from Senators. Thanks Carole

'Federal regulators routinely say that they don't need to take companies to trial for breaking the law because settlement agreements were tough enough to enforce the law.

if the regulatory agencies are so confident that settlements are a good deal for the taxpayers they represent, then you would think they would be willing to publicly disclose the key terms and conditions of those agreements — hang it right out there so everyone can see what a great job they did on behalf of the American people. But too many times, that isn’t what they do.

Instead of making all the terms public, they announce a big “sticker price” for the settlement, then hide the details in fine print or fail to disclose that the company will get a big tax deduction or—worst of all—declare all the terms of the deal “confidential."

Tom Coburn and I introduced the Truth in Settlements Act to require accessible, detailed disclosures about these agreements so the public can hold regulators accountable for these deals.'

As anyone who knows me understands, I have (and still am) a staunch supporter of Dennis Kucinich -- a brave champion of humanity and truth, who has stepped down from politics.

We have few left in Congress (Sanders, Warren and Grayson immediately come to mind). If we do not have many with their strength -- who challenge the status quo -- and live up to their oath of office:

Oath of Office
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

Let's hold those, whose salaries are dependent upon our trust and taxes, to uphold that oath.

Lest we forget -- or be misled (a primer):

"The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the United States of America.[1] The Constitution originally consisted of seven Articles. The first three Articles embody the doctrine of the separation of powers, whereby the federal government is divided into three branches: the legislature, consisting of the bicameral Congress; the executive, consisting of the President; and the judiciary, consisting of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. The fourth and sixth Articles frame the doctrine of federalism, describing the relationship between State and State, and between the several States and the federal government. The fifth Article provides the procedure for amending the Constitution. The seventh Article provides the procedure for ratifying the Constitution.

The Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in eleven States. It went into effect on March 4, 1789.[2]

Since the Constitution was adopted, it has been amended twenty-seven times. The first ten amendments (along with two others that were not ratified at the time) were proposed by Congress on September 25, 1789, and were ratified by the necessary three-fourths of the States on December 15, 1791.[3] These first ten amendments are known as the Bill of Rights.

The Constitution is interpreted, supplemented, and implemented by a large body of constitutional law. The Constitution of the United States was the first constitution of its kind, and has influenced the constitutions of other nations."

There are many times that I get so very frustrated with our political system and all it's woe's that I sometimes want to just turn my head and look away...and ignore them all; but then I think of how those like Elizabeth, Bernie, Warren, Grayson and a few others.... and how they must feel while holding office and the constant struggles they make to try and get things done in general, to speed our recovery and to solve many other problems left in place by the Bush/Cheney administration..aka...'a corporate coup of our government' to name just ...one. They face the many GOP corporate buildings/walls that hold seats in our Congress every day ,..That is what gives me courage to 'shake my frustration off' and get back in the ring so to say. Making sure I support the few remaining progressive politicians that are still willing to go up against the GOP's Corporate system of governing day in and day out ..doing so as they were elected to do....on behalf of the American people. Hers being one of the most difficult due to the nature of her main focus on the most corrupt/greedy and powerful within the corporate / banking / financial worlds. So many problems, so little time but she's been doing one hell of a job thus far I think. My respect and admiration goes out to Elizabeth without a doubt...she [along with the others I and Carole have mentioned] are true servants of the people....for the people !

Signed and noted with enthusiasm ...Thanks for sharing Carole.

Bless your heart, Jae. (Yeah, there are times that I just get frustrated and wonder WHY am I even banging my head against the wall too.)

BUT, we refuse to just lie down and be run over by the machine . . .

So, we kick ourselves in the arse and continue.

I thank gawd for my intelligent and committed friends here. They remind me of our need to rise.

Ty for posting "Just"...Signed in good company. Gratitude to all the Care2ers who faithfully share for a better world amidst the never ending Corporate Kingdom "Onceler" nonsense. So tired of the many everywhere who devote endless time and often many dollars to entertainment and creature comforts as those are the honorable activities of deserving, responsible and dutiful citizens! Exceptionally tired of the old "I'm just NOT into politics routine" as if that stupid silly little over-marketed remark instantly makes the speaker exempt and above the fray. Well, know it or not...politics is into them 24/7. . .and obviously not for the better given all the trite, trivial, shallow mindsets roaming the planet. Thank heavens for Elizabeth et kind. . .and Thank-you for your indulgence. . .

I've been supporting, writing about and donating to Elizabeth Warren since the early days of her campaign. Absolutely loved watching her on Rachel Maddow's show last year, another woman I wish would run for office. Elizabeth is a wonderful Senator and I still get news from her and am still donating to her. Even though Minnesota is a long ways from Massachusetts. This world needs many more women of her integrity, brilliance and compassion. Some day I want to vote for her as President, but not just yet, she is doing so much in the Senate that her presence is needed there for a while. It is so nice to hear a truly reasonable voice coming out of that quagmire.

It also would show potentially damaged individuals what to look for from the company. It should be required to show every single fact about settlements/ The only reason for not doing so is to protect the guilty.
