The reward was discussed during a press conference held Friday morning by the Humane Society and Albany County District Attorney's Office. $2,500 was initially offered by the Humane Society, but numerous reward offers from the community raised the total reward offered to about $7,000.

Last Saturday three 3-week-old puppies were found on railroad tracks in Albany suffering from deliberate injuries to their back left paws.

The paw on one puppy had been cut off, the paw on the second puppy was missing two toes, and the paw on the third puppy was found with a gaping hole in it, perhaps from an attempt to place a nail through it. The third puppy, a girl, died from his wounds earlier this week.

It appeared that the dogs had been abandoned for up to two days without food or water.

"Only a depraved and hateful individual would commit such a heinous act of animal abuse," said Brian Shapiro, The HSUS' New York state director. "We are hopeful that this reward helps find the parties responsible for mutilating these innocent puppies."

Soares tells NEWS10 the crime does rise to the level of a felony.

It takes a cold hearted person to torture puppies. I hope the person is found and prosecuted.

Ditto to the above comments. I hate reading about the abuse/torture of these little babies, and of the little girl puppy dying from her wounds/mutilations. Some people don't deserve to be around animals. (As is the case here). So very sad. Thanks, Dee for this.

It is unthinkable and unforgivable that someone could set out to be so cruel like this..

I am so glad they have stepped up this investigation and are offering a reward as well..And I certainly hope they find the bastards that did this..

I hope that they find the sick freaks! It is awful that the little girl didn't survive, but I feel most sorry for mummy, who is she and where is she???? And is there any ore pups???
