Durham mental health professionals think nonviolent inmates who are mentally ill need treatment more than a stay in jail or prison. Thanks to a federal grant, they'll be able to help such inmates quicker.

Yes, good news. Before Reagan, the US kept the mentally ill in separate facilities from prisoners. After Reagan, these ill people were thrown in prison with regular criminals or on the streets with no help. I hope this spreads to all the states. Thanks Sara.
