Teaching kids to have compassion and empathy for their furry, feathered, and finned friends is vital for preventing cruelty to animals.

Yes as an RN,I wonder why they do not teach this in school, the correlation between animal abuser moving onto humans is so well known and documented.Start early and maybe our future children could have some more common sense and compassion towards our innocent animals.

They don't teach it in school because animals are considered to be second class citizens and people their value is not recognized. In medical schools it is not taught either even though it should be a part of the curriculum and to make it worse they test on animals so they are further desensitized (or so I think).
Kids should definitely be taught compassion and the unconditional love animal bring to their lives.I was very proud when my daughter moved to New york after leaving home and rescued her first dog who luckily had a home and was just lost.

This is a most important lesson. Please teach children compassion towards all living things.

Schools and parents should take environmental education much more seriously. Children all shall grow up as considerate, respectful adults who love animals and nature.

It should be taught now more than ever since we seem to be hearing more heartbreaking stories of abuse and neglect towards animals these days and it must stop! Thanks Sergio!

This really is important, and like many other things, it needs to start at a very young age.

Noted - children who abuse animals are as despicable as adults - and there is no such thing as they had a hard life as most people like to say or they came from an abused background. In my eyes they are just wicked. Maybe this is a good thing that it is taught in schools.

I am a Pre School and Kindergarten teacher and I always teach kindness toward animals and nature. I do it in a fun way and the children love it!

@ Bonnie

Good job! If all teachers were like you, there wouldn't be so many violent, uneducated kids who torture animals and bully peers so easily.

As Leslene said, "children who abuse animals are as despicable as adults - and there is no such thing as they had a hard life as most people like to say or they came from an abused background. In my eyes they are just wicked."

P.S: Thanks for the green star.

Noted. Thanks, Sergio. This is so very true. I raised both my children to be animal friendly and I now have a grandson whom I will also teach to be compassionate towards animals. I have 5 cats, a Bearded Dragon, and an aquarium full of fish so there's lots of animals for my grandson to learn his lesson with.

Thank you all!
Indeed, this is a very important and serious issue that all governments and schools shoul take into account!
