TWO LITTLE BOYS did not get what they wanted for Christmas. They never got the chance to open their gifts or play with new toys Christmas morning. They were bludgeoned beyond recovery Tuesday afternoon, reportedly by a schizophrenic neighbor who followe

Mary, the unfortunate thing here is that two beautiful young babes had to lose their lives in order for Gallegos to get the help that he was asking for before, when he told the authorities that he killed his sons, and he hadn't, he asked for hospital help, I read the whole article. How very sad this is that these children were the victims of a person with a mind that's not stable who could have been helped before this happened, I'm sick over this.

May the young boys R.I.P. now in the arms of the angels and be safe with the lord.

Thank you Mary once again for shedding light on the mentally disturbed of this world. The articles only verify it, this is very sadly noted.

followed them into a small neighborhood park and crushed their skulls by repeated, forceful blows with a baseball bat. Seven-year-old Jesse and his 10-year-old cousin, Edwin, died the day after Christmas from massive head injuries.

Six months ago, Gallegos reportedly made a plea for help by telling authorities he had murdered his two young sons. But Gallegos’ psychosis was not answered with hospitalization and treatment.

Read the article, please, and share your thoughts.

SHOULD SOCIETY INSIST ON IMPROVING OUR MENTAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM AND PROVIDE PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES FOR PEOPLE IN CRISIS LIKE GALLEGOS BEFORE SOME AVOIDABLE TRAGEDY LIKE THE MURDERS OF HIS TWO LITTLE NEIGHBORS?

SHOULD PSYCHIATRIC INTERVENTION BE ENFORCED FOR PATIENTS TOO DELUSIONAL TO RECOGNIZE THEIR OWN NEED FOR HELP BEFORE THEY PUT THEMSELVES IN DANGER LIKE INMAN MORALES, WHO WENT NAKED ON HIS 3RD STORY NY LANDING AND POLICE TASERED HIM, MAKING MORALES FALL TO HIS DEATH?

SHOULD MENTAL PATIENTS WHO ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR OWN SHELTER BE LEFT TO LIVE IN ALLEYS, LIKE JOHN ROBERT McGRAHAM, THE KIND, ELDERLY CALIFORNIA VAGRANT WHO HAD NO DEFENSE AGAINST STREET HOODLUMS WHO DECIDED IT WOULD BE FUN TO CURSE HIM OUT, THROW GASOLINE ON HIM, AND SET HIM ON FIRE?

SHOULD WE HELP OUR VULNERABLE CITIZENS WHO ARE MENTALLY ILL SUBSTANCE ABUSERS LIKE FRANK HORTON, THE TENNESSEE MAN WHO DID NINE MONTHS IN CCA PRIVATE PRISON IN NASHVILLE, LIVING IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT FOR NINE MONTHS IN HIS OWN FILTH WITHOUT ANY BATHS, EXERCISE, OR DOCTOR'S VISITS?

SHOULD FAMILY MEMBERS OF ACUTE MENTAL PATIENTS BE ABANDONED TO FACE DEATH AT THE HANDS OF DERANGED RELATIVES THEY CANNOT GET THE SYSTEM TO HELP, LIKE THERESA, WHO WAS STABBED TO DEATH BY HER SCHIZOPHRENIC BROTHER, ROBERT, IN OREGON THIS SUMMER?

SHOULD MENTAL PATIENTS LIKE THE SONS OF CARE2 MEMBERS JOANNE, GINA, AND CC FACE PRISON, INCLUDING SOLITARY CONFINEMENT AND ABUSE BY STRONGER INMATES, BECAUSE THEY ARE MENTALLY ILL AND LACKED THE WHEREWITHALL TO CONDUCT THEMSELVES BY THE LAWS OF OUR LAND?

SHOULD A FAMILY LIKE MY OWN HAVE THEIR SICK LOVED ONE, LIKE LARRY NEAL, SECRETLY ARRESTED, DETAINED FOR NEARLY THREE WEEKS UNTIL GOOD AND DEAD, BUT NEVER BE GIVEN ANY EXPLANATION, EXCUSE, ARREST RECORDS, AND BE DENIED ANY INVESTIGATION AS TO HOW SUCH A TRAGEDY HAPPENED?

HOW LONG WILL WE TREAT THE MENTALLY ILL AND THEIR FAMILY WORSE THAN DOGS?

WHEN WILL MENTALLY ILL AMERICANS FINALLY GET DOG JUSTICE?

HERE IS A VIDEO THAT DEPICTS HOMELESS AND IMPRISONED MENTALLY ILL AMERICANS:

- - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kzim_Atdo1c - -

CALL AND WRITE YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND LET THEM KNOW YOU EXPECT CHANGE IN HOW MENTALLY ILL CITIZENS ARE TREATED IN AMERICA.

PLEASE TELL THEM YOU EXPECT DOG JUSTICE FOR THE MENTALLY ILL.

Happy New Year, one and all!

Thanks, Bren and FreeSpiritRunning, for your comments. Thanks to everyone who notes this article. Please read it through. Little Jesse and Edwin did not have to die like they did. Police who reportedly responded six months prior to their murders when Gallegos called with the outrageous story about murdering his own sons should have been met with immediate hospitalization and care for this sick man.

Most often, acute mental patients are on the receiving end of violence, but occasionally, society gets a wakeup call like the murders of these innocent children to remind us how dangerous it can be to ignore mental dysfunctions. The man who went into Hillary Clinton's campaign office and took hostages could have done great damage, like the Virginia Tech student. When our soldiers transition home and many of them suffer from war wounds to the head and PTSD, will we not want them cared for properly? They know how to go to war on people, you know.

This is serious. Let us not continue to ignore citizens' cry for help. Let us open some more mental hospitals to answer their cries for help when they come. Let us establish some laws to force treatment for those too sick to recognize their need and issue that cry for help. Otherwise, you might just want to stay out of the malls.

This is what happens when the health systems fails due to greed. They closed mental health facilities years ago to save money. Now there is nowhere for these people to go for help. They live in the community and are expected to take their medication without supervision. Once we had large Psychiatric Hospitals now ther are none. Pity these 2 poor boys paid the ultimate price. Pity for their family.

Thanks for commenting, Lily. Hospital closings saved zero. Criminalizing mental illness is much more expensive than treating the condition either as an inpatient or outpatient. Please read the article. Gallegos will get competency tests now, treatment in jail, a lawyer at taxpayer expense, court costs paid by citizens of Arizona, the likely prison for life at the rate of about $150,000 per year for him alone. That amounts to over $6,000,000, based on the average life expectancy. Do you believe having a social worker go by his house every morning and administer his pills, or forcing him to report for a monthly shot would amount to $6 MILLION? No way. Even if Gallegos became a hospital inpatient for life, it would not be anywhere near his court and anticipated prison costs.

It is time to acknowledge that mentally ill people cannot be punished into a state of mental health. No one's nerves improve under incarceration, and rehabilitation is not a treatment!

Taxpayers cannot afford to pay $6 MILLION to imprison sick people like Gallegos for life, when all he needed was treatment in the first place!

Say no to criminalizing mental illness and save lives. Insist on preventive care for acute mentally ill Americans, enforced care when needed.

Blessings,

Mary

There is something wrong with our justice system. Hopefully, President-elect Obama's Administration will address it. Please stay vigilant about it and let your representatives know you care about justice for America's mentally ill citizens.

Our lawmakers worked together and passed some good laws in 2008 to help with mental health issues. Unfortunately, none of them addressed the 1.25 million mentally ill people imprisoned in our country and decriminalizing mental illness - trading jails for hospitals. Nevertheless, we are pleased with the bills that did pass which equalized mental illness with physical illness as far as Medicare and other insurance plans, and one bill strengthened the Americans with Disabilities Act. Please be sure to thank your representatives, because virtually ALL of our Congresspersons and Senators supported one or all of the bills.

I just discovered that our group, ASSISTANCE TO THE INCARCERATED MENTALLY ILL, is so censored that the link above may not work. Censorship on the Internet in the 21st Century is the same as Nazi book-burning of the 1940's.

Use this link to thank our representatives. It is at the bottom. Maybe they will let this link work:

Thanks for your support to the least of these, His brethren. No one should be imprisoned for having a health condition, and mentally ill people who issue a cry for help need to be helped in order to keep them and our society safe.

The guilt lays only with the medical services. Because they ignored a plea for help from this poor soul, two little boys died horribly.
Mental illness destroys lives.

The real sick thing about all of this is, that society doesn't want to help the ones that need it the most. It doesn't care about mental illness, unless it is someone close to them. That is the only time it hits home. Now of course this man committed a heinous crime because he had no control over his illness and two little boys are dead. Lose/Lose situation.

wasn't John Walsh's son murdered by a delusional man, also? someone who should not have been walking our streets? and when these people do commit such violent crimes, all the public wants is revenge. not all schizophrenics act out like this, but some do and can't control it. prison won't help, these people are truly ill, and the country turns it's back on them, our system is so flawed and we all suffer.
