This film depicts a "take down" by police officers in a Wal-Mart parking lot. The citizen is reported to be an 80-year-old woman with completely white hair and on a walking cane.

The video is available by clicking the "visit site" green tab or the title.

Here is the link:

Thanks.

This is totally disgusting. The cops involved should be fired. Cops are not always right. Many comments on this have been that the woman should have put the knife down. Well what if she couldnt hear them or didnt understand? The elderly can often be disoriented. Im sure that she isnt fast or agile. Could she have just been avoided or 'hered' into a safe area until her daughter could be found. Poor thing. There isnt any excuse for excessive force on the elderly. IMHO of course.

Thank you, Marty. I will leave this one to you who notice it to push it to front page by sharing it with your friends.

If you think it is important to protect our elders, then please help with geting notes for this news.

After seeing how this elder was treated, I am going to spend some time with my Mama.

Thanks in advance!

Mary

My Mother lives with me. I have experience with how easy it is for her to become disoriented. If approached by police in a hostile manner, I believe that she would hesitate and and act in an afraid manner. I'm afraid that I would be hard pressed not to react with extreme violence if anyone did this to my Mother. Her poor daughter. I hope that there were no lasting physical injuries. The mental ones will be forever, IMHO.

I sent the news to 25 friends, but forgot how the title does not lead back to Care2 News Network. I should have put this link. Oh, well. Some of them know how to work around that.

Marty, your compassion for the elder is heartwarming. I hope she is OK. Sometimes, elders don't survive broken hips, and the police did not seem to care if they gave her one. I don't know if she had any lasting injuries. I could not bear to watch more than part of it.

This makes me so mad. I'd like to taser them. They always seem to taser the helpless. I hope they get reprimanded on this. I pray she will be ok. Noted with anger. Thanks Mary.

Hi, Joycey. I don't think they Tasered this woman - just a good old fashion BODY SLAM! BOOM-BANG! AND SLAP ON THE HANDCUFFS WHILE SHE BLEEDS.

It was the 72-year-old white great grandmother from Texas who the officer Tasered last month.

OLD LADIES HAVE A HARD TIME AROUND HERE. Enough to make a girl get her wrinkle cream out.

Thanks for responding. I don't feel like making announcements about this, Joycey, but I would like to see this elder's story on Front Page so her family will know that people saw what happened and we care.

Did you hear the people on the video saying, "Get your camera. Film this." People count on others CARING when something this horrible happens. I know that Care2 members care, but I need help notifying them, please. Thanks in advance.

FYI, I only specified the race of last month's Taser victim because we did not talk about that when we discussed the Texas great grandmother being Tasered. None of us cared. But I discovered with the story I posted about the man being sodomized by Taser that some people do care. So maybe I should start telling what race these victims are. The sodomy victim was also white, by the way.

One thing should be clear -- abusers don't care what race or age you are.

Seeing that old black lady slammed to the ground like that reminded me of something I will never forget.

Do you recall the body of that elderly lady in the wheelchair sitting in front of the New Orleans Dome during Katrina like something thrown away? There was a sheet draped over her and she sat there for days. Poor old dear.

There's no excuse for such brutality.

The paradox is this happened in a country where a large part of the population owns guns, is pro-guns, alledgedly for self protection. But an elderly woman is seen as THE potential terrorist to be thrown down in a second without trying any other approach. Maybe she was just scared to be walking alone, maybe she had been mugged or attacked before, maybe she was just disoriented and scared when the officer appeared in front of her. She was so thin, did not seem agitated and the officer was several times her size...

there was no time used to diffuse the situation, the outcome was avoidable. we have no idea what was going through that old womans head, she seemed to be out of it, why else would she walk around in broad daylight with a knife in her hand?

IMHO the police force in this country have been encouraged to over react, even rewarded for brutality by the previous Govt. administration. People behaved with gang mentality and seemed to enjoy the suffering inflicted by the police. I have seen video after video of the elderly, infirm or very young being beaten, tasered, and abused. I believe strongly that there should be stronger check on people before they can become cops. Start weeding out the mentally unstable before they can hurt the innocent.

I believe she had the little blade because she felt afraid to be alone at the Wal-Mart parking lot and was probably waiting on her daughter and probably hoped that if any bad guys were around, they would be afraid to approach her. No one seemed to be with her at the beginning of the film.

Some seniors suffer dementia as well as physical issues like hearing loss. I would like for officers to not introduce violence into a situation that could be addressed non-violently, especially with the elderly, children, and mentally ill.

We have become a nation that preys on the weak. IMHO. We prevent or people from leaving or make it very difficult to do so. We demand ID papers at the whim of law enforcement. We break down doors and kill because of mistakes on the police. We allow the abuse of the elsderly, the poor, the young. Those that are different suffer. We should have the ethics and morals to stand up and protect those that need us before we fall into a nazi state.

Read what is done to me because I stand up for the people you named. I fear your hope that we get ethics and morals enough to stand up may already be late.

I have to agree with the emotions everyone has already shared... The abuse within law enforcement has become too widely spread and accepted in our society!

Thank you for expressing your views, sister. I appreciate your comments on this important news. If you see the video, you will note that the elderly woman held a small knife in view, like she was trying to intimidate people and avoid being robbed or hurt while waiting for her daughter to come out of Wal-Mart. Poor dear probably never figured the police would be the ones to throw her down and crack her skull. Sad.

Blessings!

Mary
