What happens when a mentally ill inmate is imprisoned naked for nine months living in filth in dark solitary confinement and is so abused and traumatized that he can only speak gibberish when released? Judge dismisses family's lawsuit, of course!

Care2 members were very upset when we learned about Frank Horton, the mentally ill Nashville man who was locked away in solitary confinement for nine months and forced to live in his own excretions, held without baths, exercise, medical or psychiatric care. Had it not been for a guard who acted as a Good Samaritan and blew the whistle on CCA, the private prison company that owned the facility, Mr. Horton might have died in his lonely, filthy cell, which was the size of a small closet.

Judge dismisses inmate's suit against CCA

A federal judge has ruled in favor of the Corrections Corporation of America by dismissing a claim that a mentally ill inmate kept in solitary confinement for nine months was harmed by the experience.

***************************************************

Insert by Mary:

SEE THE VIDEO of Frank Horton's release from the "hole" where he lived naked in filth until a kind prison guard became so alarmed about his deteroirating condition that he went to Health & Human Services and reported his employer's abuse. The VIDEO is a part of this news story:

Torture of the Mentally Ill ~ 9 mo. Solitary Confinement in Filth, Naked

http://www.nowpublic.com/health/torture-mentally-ill-9-mo-solitary-
confinement-filth-naked

Tennessee is hard on the mentally ill. My mentally ill brother was secretly arrested until he died in Memphis/Shelby County Jail, and police refuse to tell what happened to him. See Wrongful Death of Larry Neal.

http://WrongfulDeathofLarryNeal.com

*****************************************************

The Tennessean article continues:

The lawsuit was filed by Mary Braswell on behalf of her grandson, Frank Horton, who was being held in the Metro Davidson County Detention Facility operated by CCA for parole violations and assault charges.

U.S. District Court Senior Judge John T. Nixon dismissed the lawsuit because Horton was never PHYSICALLY injured by the solitary confinement, and because he didn’t file any grievances with the jail operator about his lack of access to mental health care.

*********************************

One might understand from this that Judge Nixon did not feel Mr. Horton's MENTAL ANGUISH did not count - only physical injuries matter. Too bad that Mr. Horton did not take time-out from being mentally ill and incoherent long enough to file a grievance against his abusers. Next time, maybe he will remember to do that.

The rate of recidivism is high among mental patients, especially since there is little bedspace available in most of the few remaining mental hospitals across America and inadequate community care and support for persons who are mentally challenged.

Like 1.25 million Americans, Horton's mental dysfunctions landed him in prison, which costs much more than treating him in his community in an Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) program. Among New York mentally ill offenders, Kendra's Law program participants experienced over 90% reduction in homelessness, arrests, hospitalizations, and incarceration. That means there was much less crime in their communities, the patients were given subsistence assistance and ENFORCED psychiatric treatment, and taxpayers saved money.

Please decriminalize mental illness. About 60% of inmates in solitary confinement today are mentally ill and living in small cells 23 hours daily. Like Frank Horton, they are gassed if they cry out in anguish. Extended solitary confinement has been known to drive sane people into mental illness - how much worse it must be for those who are already sick! It is a sin and a shame for America to treat sick citizens this way and their families who suffer along with them!

One could understand our nation's most vulnerable citizens being treated this way if it were significantly less expensive than mental hospitals or community care, but it is actually much more expensive to imprison people than to provide decent treatment and subsistence in their communities. It is immoral to punish someone for being sick, and mentally ill people are the only ones who are treated thusly.

JAIL IS THE LAST THING THAT MENTAL PATIENTS NEED, AND TOO OFTEN, IT IS THE VERY LAST THING THEY EXPERIENCE. NO ONE CAN BE PUNISHED INTO A STATE OF MENTAL HEALTH. PLEASE JOIN OUR EFFORTS TO DECRIMINALIZE MENTAL ILLNESS TODAY.

Do you know what happened to CCA prison after Mr. Horton was saved by the kindness of a prison guard who facilitated his rescue (Horton was weak, incoherent, his skin diseased, his hair matted)? CCA got another large federal contract with a guarantee to supply the prison with X number of inmates over the contract period. Comments?

What you read above is not the article - only an excerpt with my comments.

Please read the entire article to get the update on Frank Horton's family's denial of justice. Their lawyer might appeal the judge's ruling. If you can support their efforts in any way, please do so.

YOUR COMMENTS MIGHT MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR THE HORTON FAMILY OR THE NEXT FAMILY BEING TREATED THIS WAY AFTER THEIR MENTALLY ILL RELATIVE IS ABUSED OR KILLED IN PRISON.

CARE2, is there ANYTHING you can do to stop the cyberstalker from making the link to this news article invisible where I post it? A table appears above, in the middle, and underneath the posts I make to groups of my news stories. Data that the cyberstalker renders invisible is pulled into the tables and rendered invisible.

Cyberstalking: A New Challenge for Law Enforcement and Industry

A Report from the Attorney General to the Vice President -- August 1999

***********************************

I just posted this news at AIMI, and the cyberstalker deleted the Care2 News Network link, and the title of the story does not lead to Care2 News, but to the article at THE TENNESEAN. That is done to prevent the story from getting many notes here at Care2 News and making it to front page.

I am so tired of the cyberstalking, and I hope when you see my tapes you will be able to figur out some way to block this from happening to me or to other people who write about human and civil rights to poor, handicapped, or disadvantaged people in America.

Thank you in advance.

It is awful to be cyberstalked online and followed in person - not because you did something wrong, but to hide the wrongdoing of others.

Ever since The Johnnie Cochran Firm convinced Judge Wendy Shoob that they did not exist in Georgia, with them open every day at 127 Peachtree Street in Downtown Atlanta, our lives have been like a James Bond movie.

Folks following us - especially me because I write about THE COCHRAN FIRM FRAUD (Google it). And I try to help other mentally ill folks in jail like poor Larry, my mentally ill brother who they murdered - maybe by just withholding his heart meds by disclaiming that he was in jail or maybe by a restraint chair or Taser -- they won't say, and nobody will even make Memphis Police tell how Larry died. Bet you thought things like that did not happen in America, right - SECRET ARRESTS AND DEATHS?

Most folks think it only happened to prisoners in Guantanamo.

They want you to think prisoner abuse only happened in Guantanamo, and that is why they chase me if I try to leave home and go to work. They don't like me telling you about people like Larry Neal and poor Frank Horton in this article.

They don't like my telling you about unfortunate young men like the son of Care2 member Gina, who is RIGHT NOW in solitary confinement in a California prison - schizophrenic since childhood and punished with EIGHT YEARS imprisonment because he hit another mental patient at his hospital, but caused no lasting damage.

See the CARE2 PETITION FOR JEREMY SMITH - GOOGLE FOR IT

IT IS A SIN AND A SHAME THE WAY MENTALLY ILL FOLKS AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE TREATED IN AMERICA.

I wrote to President Obama and Vice President Biden about it yesterday. One of the first executive orders President Obama signed was for OPEN DISCLOSURE IN GOVERNMENT, and here these folks are hiding Larry's death and intimidating and cyberstalking me because I tell about it. It is awful!

I know that President Obama is torn up this week over the death of Sen. Kennedy, a great man and a great supporter of human rights - someone who believed in supporting diversity. He would never want a family victimized like mine because we are black people without lots of money - just hardworking people with some family members right now serving the country in foreign lands, including Iraq. It is a sin and a shame to treat Americans worse than terrorists, but that is what is happening.

YES, I WILL TELL ABOUT FRANK HORTON.

YES, I WILL TELL ABOUT JEREMY SMITH

YES, I WILL TELL ABOUT TROY DAVIS

YES, I WILL TELL ABOUT KATHRYN JOHNSTON'S FAMILY - TRUSTING THAT SAME COCHRAN FIRM TO GET JUSTICE FOR THEM, AND THEY MAY NOT EVEN HAVE FILED THEIR LAWSUIT EITHER. Kathryn Johnston was the 92-year-old Atlanta woman police shot in her home in 2006 in the world's worst no-knock warrant. The Cochran Firm got that case six months after claiming not to exist in Georgia. Can you believe it? The family hasn't gotten a dime yet on their lawsuit, either.

They did arrest three of the police officers who killed Ms. Johnston. I guess they could not sweep her death under the rug like they did my poor brother, Larry Neal. They made the police officers who shot the elderly lady pay $8,000 funeral expenses. That is all.

GOD IS LOOKING AT AMERICA AND THESE BILLIONAIRES TRICKING AND SCHEMING AGAINST LESS FORTUNATE PEOPLE LIKE SICK PEOPLE AND THEIR FAMILIES, AND HAVING LAW FIRMS SET UP TO MAKE FOOLS OUT OF AFRICAN AMERICANS AFTER THEIR RELATIVES ARE KILLED BY POLICE VIOLENCE. GOD IS NOT PLEASED WITH THAT.

Pray for all the prisoners. Pray for my family. We have many financial problems, also, because the CYBERSTALKERS keep me from having AdSense, which would run advertising on my articles so I could make a living while at home. My article entitled MICHAEL JACKSON'S DEATH - THE CONSPIRACY THEORY has over 60,000 readers now.

If I could advertise at the site of my articles, my 86-yr-old mom and I would have enough to live on while we hide in our home from the folks who harass and follow us, since the police will not come when we call 911.

GOD BLESS AMERICA TO REPENT!!! DON'T LET FOLKS BE RUN OVER THIS WAY. DON'T TREAT THE MENTALLY ILL BAD LIKE YOU DO. GET THEM OUT OF PRISON AND INTO TREATMENT, IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, OUR LORD!

Blessings,

Mary

PLEASE Care2 members and my friends here and on Facebook - tell your friends about this article. Every time I try to tell folks about news I post about how they DOG OUT the mentally ill, I have a real hard time.

Sometimes, my emails don't go out for days. If they do go out, the link to Care2 News is missing often. Sometimes when I post to groups, it only shows on my computer as posted, but if I look at the group from another computer where I did not log in, the post is not there! I have films of this and printouts.

It is a sin and a shame the way I am treated to protect billionaire law firms and billionaire private prison companies.

YOU can have "reply all" on your Care2 email box, but not Mary Neal

YOU can load videos at Care2, but not Mary Neal

YOU can have RSS feed on your Sharebook, but not Mary Neal

I don't understand why I write to Care2 help desk and get the confirmation and no followup.

HOW MUCH MONEY IS FULL SERVICE FOR MARY NEAL? HOW MUCH DO Y'ALL PAY FOR RSS FEEDS AND "REPLY ALL" ON YOUR EMAIL BOX? HOW MUCH DO YOU MEMBERS PAY TO HAVE THE CAPACITY TO LOAD VIDEOS? WHAT IS GOING ON?

WHY ARE MY REQUESTS TO CARE2 HELP DESK IGNORED AND IGNORED AND IGNORED -- JUST LIKE MY CALLS TO THE POLICE WHEN I WAS SURROUNDED AT THE CHEVRON STATION BY MEN WHO HAD FOLLOWED ME THERE LAST SEPT. 27? (See Cochran Firm Fraud on You Tube, tapes 1 and 2).

Thank you, Barb. I please send this Care2 News link to your friends. I am prevented. I just posted it to my sharebook, but the cyberstalker burried this news underneath a poem about my brother. I had put the poem at the bottom of the page (after this news post), but the cyberstalker moved it to the top.

The cyberstalker also REMOVED THE CARE2 NEWS NETWORK'S LINK to prevent people from getting to this article to note it. He/she is probably paid to keep my work from Care2 News' front page. The Care2 News Network is very fair and only goes by the notes, but someone does not want me to get there with this news, so he/she is pulling out all the stops.

I have films of all of this as it happens - removing my links, making the links that are there show up in black ink so people will not recognize them as being links (my taglines and the word "Comments"), etc. The cyberstalker already disconnected my Sharebook from RSS to contain damages to The Cochran Firm and/or prison profiteers. The cyberstalker hates human rights!

Please help by notifying your friends of this article. Be sure to TRY to put the Care2 link. I am prevented. Check your "sent" file to see if it really went, and open the sent file document to see if it still has the Care2 News Network link.

Thanks in advance, all who care and will help Frank Horton's family and mine, as well as all the other mentally ill Americans in solitary confinement tonight.

Blessings!

WHOEVER IT IS THAT CYBERSTALKS ON CARE2 IS PRO-CAPITAL PUNISHMENT.

LAST NIGHT, I ADDED THE PHOTOGRAPH FOR THOMAS ARTHUR AND A PHOTO OF THE ALABAMA LETHAL INJECTION CHAMBER. THEY ARE BOTH GONE NOW.

CARE2, PLEASE DO NOT SIT BY WHILE PEOPLE STEAL MY CREATIVE PRODUCT. WE WILL HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM ALREADY WITH THE DISCRIMINATION I ALREAD HAVE - GETTING MEMBERSHIP ON A PUBLIC FORUM AND BEING DENIED MANY OF THE SERVICES.

Thomas Arthur is a Caucasian Alabama man who was to have been executed last July 31. He begged for a DNA test for decades, and he finally was granted one this year, after having gotten a stay of execution right before his intended execution in 2008.

Thomas Arthur is innocent. His DNA matched NONE of the crime scene evidence tested, but the D.A. is still going to ask for a death warrant for him. Do you want to know why?

Thomas Arthur was so nervous about being killed for a crime he did not commit that last July he may have induced another inmate to falsely claim he did the murder that Arthur is facing execution for committing.

Neither man is guilty, and both were tested. The other inmate's DNA tests were negative also.

Now the court is so angry with Thomas Arthur for "committing a fraud on the court" that they plan to go ahead and kill him, despite his DNA tests being negative for the crime.

I don't think that is right. Lying is not a capital offense.

I put Arthur's picture in my Sharebook last night, and the cyberstalker moved it. I had 399 pictures with Thomas' photo and the AL death chamber, and now I am at 397.

CARE2, NETWORK THAT CARES, PLEASE CHECK YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM. IF IT CHECKS OUT, THEN CHECK AGAIN CLOSER TO HOME.

Thank you.

This is disgusting! Tennessee is really screwed-up when it comes to getting real help for anybody!

Mary Neal (186)
Saturday August 29, 2009, 4:46 am
Thanks, Ainsley, for responding. Criminalizing mental patients is not just a Tennessee problem; it is nationwide. In fact, of the 2.3 million inmates in America, 1.25 million of them have mental illness to varying degrees. About 60% of those in solitary confinement are mentally ill, and probably living like Frank Horton was before his rescue - filthy, deprived of baths, exercise, or medical attention, gassed for control, and his tiny cell full of his own excretions, trying to breathe in putrid air. Awful! I'd like someone to tell me how it was "humane" to dismiss chronic mental patients from hospitals in the 60's and 70's when they ended up living in chains in solitary confinement being sprayed with pepper spray.

IT IS ALL ABOUT PROFITS FOR PRISON PROFITEERS! Conditions designed to keep mental patients sick and add more inmates to their numbers by torturing them increases profits. Sick inmates are more likely to break prison rules and get their sentences lengthened. Therefore, withholding psychiatric care saves money and also makes money!

How did you find out about this article? I sent you an email two days ago and a Care2 card early a.m. today. I was only permitted to send the Care2 cards to the A's on my list so far. Advocacy for human rights suffers violence! I don't think people advocating for animals or the environment, which are also worthy causes, have this problem. The thing is that folks make big money dogging out human beings, and they also enjoy doing it. Sadism is real. Consider the War on Terror camps.

Please send to your friends. This article has been published for days, and I have only notified the A's on my friends list due to interference!

Mary it does sound as if we are still living in the dark ages. I can't understand how a country so forward like the US treats mentally ill patients in this manner. God forbid that any one be mentally ill if this is the treatment they are given. It's sad really sad and a shame for any nation to treat the voiceless and defeceless in this manner. My prayers to the poor man. Hope he will manage to have a long life. After all his mental illness is not his fault. I'm sure psychatric treatment would have simply helped the poor man. Thanks Mary for reaching out to the defenceless and voiceless people of this world. God is watching over you and will certainly bless you abundantly. Noted!

This sickens and angers me so much. The mentally ill should be getting treatment, not punishment. I am ashamed of my country for treating anyone like this. Thank goodness for that compassionate guard. Good to see someone who cares. This treatment of the mentally ill needs to end. I will never forget the treatment of those at Willowbrook in New York. Geraldo Rivera was a reporter on it and it really helped those people. Such appalling conditions for the mentally ill. Very disturbing. Maybe we need to get him back into helping again. Thanks for bringing this to our attention Mary.

Thank you so much for responding, friends and fellow Care2 members. I thank Care2 News Network for being the only consistently fair place I have found on this network. Songbird, I do not know if I am being treated this way because I am black and lack wealth or if it is because I advocate for Americans with disabilities - another very discriminated against group.

I can only tell you that

*I am not allowed a "reply all" button on my email here.
*My Sharebook is not allowed RSS feeding capability
*I am not allowed to post videos here at Care2
*Someone chooses what part of what I write is allowed to post
*Help Desk will not respond to my support inquiries about these denials of services other Care2 members have.

The problems are not limited to Care2, either. I will show you all of this this week in my films I have made of my censorship over the past two years. Follow me on Twitter - I am KoffieTime.

I welcome your prayers and thank you so much for your support for justice!

Knowing Care2 members to be fair-minded people who are always anxious to help the cause of justice, by now you probably want to know

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP!

1) See the VIDEO of Frank Horton's abuse - see him in his lonely cell with guards sparing gas through the opening where his meals were pushed to him!

VIDEO OF FRANK HORTON IN PRISON - WARNING - VIOLENT, ABUSIVE:
http://www.newschannel5.com/Global/story.asp?S=9269456

2) Tell your friends about this article, comment yourselves and ask them to comment. Horton's attorneys are thinking of appealing the judge's verdict. If they see enough support, it may make a difference.

3) Comment at THE TENNESSEAN, the online newspaper that carried news of the judge throwing out Horton's case, not allowing it to go to jury - just like our cases for my brother who died under secret arrest and authorities won't tell us what they did to him. Used the green "visit site" button above.

4) HELP JEREMY SMITH - PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIC SON OF A CARE2 MEMBER, Gina Smith. Jeremy is living in solitary confinement right now in a California prison, sentenced to 8 YRS incarceration for merely hitting another mental patient and causing no lasting damage. Gina cries herself to sleep most nights.

Here is Jeremy Smith's Care2 petition: Justice for Jeremy and Other Mentally Ill Prisoners - Prisons are for punishment and rehabilitation - not torture! Please help Jeremy Smith. (372 signatures on petition)

Thank you for your notes and comments.

YOU helped to make Mr. Horton's denial of justice front page news! Maybe that will help his attorneys go ahead and file an appeal for him.

Until prison corporations are made to pay for torturing inmates, none of them are safe. Most inmates are guilty of the offenses they were convicted for, and we thank the police, prosecutors, judges, and juries for removing them from society and helping us and our property be safer. However, some are innocent, and half of America's inmates are mentally disturbed people who should be in treatment.

Regardless of whether prisoners are innocent or guilty, NONE of them should be subjected to torture while behind bars. Over 90% of inmates have a release date in their future, and it does not serve society well to torture prisoners rather than rehabilitate them.

Hey, Catherine. Thanks for responding. Thank everyone who responds with notes and comments!

Judge Nixon said there was NO PHYSICAL HARM DONE. Mental anguish, which is a legal term, did not count for Mr. Horton in his lawsuit against CCA. Don't ask me why. I can only tell you that I believe some people just don't count.

Mental illness makes citizens eligible for any abuse or even death like my brother, and normal civil rights protections do not apply to the least of these, His brethren.

In the Dark Ages, they used to lock mentally ill people in damp dungeons with rats crawling over them, and they had to contend with rats for food sometimes.

During the 1800's, a human rights advocate named Dorothea Dix visited American and European prisons to conduct Sunday School lessons. The horrible abuse she saw the mentally ill subjected to in 1800's prisons made her go on a lifelong mission to deliver the mentally ill out of prison and into hospitals. Her tireless advocacy established 40 hospitals in the States and some overseas. Ms. Dix recorded her observations as she visited prisons and jails across America and sent reports to Congress and local officials, and they responded by doing the right thing.

Of course, that was before imprisoning people became BIG BUSINESS.

Now, 1 in 30 Americans is either incarcerated or living under the threat of jail as parolees or probationers - some for just having a traffic ticket.

If you would like to help sick people like Dorothea Dix did in the 1800's, please join ASSISTANCE TO THE INCARCERATED MENTALLY ILL, a Care2 human rights group at http://www.Care2.com/c2c/group

Just by joining, you help. Your membership says, "TREATMENT, NOT PRISON FOR MENTALLY DISTURBED PEOPLE IN AMERICA!"

If someone has the ability and willingness to make a comment and make the petitions in this comment strand LIVE LINKS, it could help JEREMY SMITH, SUZY BELL'S SON, improve enrollment at ASSISTANCE TO THE INCARCERATED MENTALLY ILL.

You could possibly help thousands of mentally ill people and their families. So many sick people are either in prisons or live under the threat of jail as they are untreated and might do something any moment that qualifies them for arrest.

Becoming mentally unwell is often caused by society..status obsessed, marginalising, dismissive society..When people become mentally unwell (which happens to a lot of us at times..i've had my own challenges with depression..and i'm not ashamed to say that),they need high quality treatment, researched treatment and most of all care..not dependent on having money to pay for that (lets get a bill for universal health reform passed eh America !?...wealth and the lack of it are integrally linked with mental health ,incarceration, getting a fair trial etc ).Most of all care, love and security prevent mental unwellness and play an enormous part in treating it too..
Frank Horton has been the victim of society..particularly the sort of society controlled by greed..ie private prisons exist to make profits ,not help them to become rehabilitated. Most prisons prior to this market-dogma,failed people and society..but if you add into the mix,the need to maximise profits, then you have the need to fill those prison places for more profit, you have corners cut in terms of staff training ,health and safety etc.
It sounds like Frank Horton shouldn't have been in prison in the first place..but where was the caring society he needed anyway.
The more right wing a society becomes, the less it cares, the more it thinks in terms of "me"and not us..the more it punishes, the less it rehabilitates..this is the Fox News Society ..the post-Reagan society based around the idea that :"I don't give a sh*t about you/black people/working class people ".
Don't get me wrong,i'd happily see more animal/child/any human being abuser's behind bars..but with rehabilitation as part of the package..sometimes really tough rehabilitation ..some people i'd never release at all.
Frank Horton wasn't and isn't one of them..but the words of the Judge re when a greivance should or shouldn't have been filed show up a society that has no understanding ..a world where even judges are as thick as horseshit..
In a decent society this would not be happening..

SuzyBell, I signed your petition to STOP THE REVOLVING DOOR. However, when I looked again to check for my signature, I did not see it. Maybe it will show up since I am writing this, but my signature ordinarily registers immediately when I sign Care2 Petitions, especially for animal rights. There were 53 when I signed, so mine should be 54.

HUMAN RIGHTS SUFFER VIOLENCE! When you try to endorse human rights petitions, sometimes your signature may not register. Always check back. Also, record the number beside your signature and check for it a week later. Sometimes the signatures are stolen! If you launch a HR petition, copy your top page often. If a name was no. 33 on Monday, and that name is no. 23 on Friday, someone took 10 signatures!

Here is what I wrote, SuzyBell:

Rehabilitation through education and job skills training is needed for prisoners, 90% of whom have a release date in their futures. Help them leave prison better equipped to make a contribution to society and live crime-free lives. This will benefit the inmates, their families, and their communities be safer and save money on recidivism!
It would have a positive effect on the economy,to give the inmate a trade an option to have something to do other than back to the life they once lead.I Do think that it would reduce the prison population by putting more people back in the workforce, and
. Keep in mind that NO ONE SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR HAVING A COMMON, TREATABLE HEALTH CONDITION LIKE MENTAL ILLNESS. Inmates who are mentally ill should be relocated to mental hospitals or mandatory community treatment programs, depending on their offenses and their ability to survive outside of a controlled environment. Stop prison profiteering off our sick citizens, please. ~~~ Mary Neal ~~~ Assistance to the Incarcerated Mentally Ill ~~~ http://wrongfuldeathoflarryneal.com

Some people reported to me that their signatures are prevented on my PETITION FOR JUSTICE FOR MARY NEAL.

It is a petition to stop censorship and terrorism against me to curtail my First Amendment rights to free speech and free press. "They" want me to shut up about my mentally ill brother who died under secret arrest in Memphis/Shelby Co. Jail and stop trying to help other helpless sick people who are victimized by the system.

Thank you, PASTOR TIM, for your prayers and for reminding us that we all have a REWARD WAITING IN THE HEREAFTER for what we do to help the least of these his brethren. The Bible says that such as we do unto the least of these, we did unto HIM. Some of the best humanitarians I met have not been Christians, but this is a special message for Christians to BE ABOUT YOUR FATHER'S BUSINESS AND HELP STOP TORTURE IN AMERICAN PRISONS!

The ACLU and other orgs. are working hard to uncover the torture in overseas War on Terror camps, and that is good. But there is lots of torture and UNEXPLAINED DEATHS happening here in the U.S. In many cases, the same people are U.S. prison owners and investors as those who issued torture orders for the overseas camps.

MY PETITION IS NOT ALWAYS ALLOWED TO REGISTER SIGNATURES. SEE ON THE PETITION AN EXAMPLE OF THE MESSAGE THAT COMES BACK TO PEOPLE:

Inquiries into secret prison torture and jail deaths are not appreciated. See what can happen about asking what happened to relatives who died under secret arrest in America -

Noted Mary...
I will forward this article off of Care 2 as well.....I am so disappointed that the justice system has turned into a joke for those left trapped within a system without a voice to speak up for them ALL.

Thanks! If the justice system is a joke like you say, the joke is on us. I was followed by four vehicles and one USDOT truck to a Chevron station last Sept. 27 and waylaid there for an hour making calls to 911 to help, and police never came! I am innocent of any wrongdoing, but they were terrorizing me because I tell about my brother's secret arrest and death and the cover-up that followed and try to help other victims.

The unfortuanate truth is that innocence does not matter as much as it should in our justice system.

If anyone believes innocence matters, they should consider the case of the Caucasian Texas man who was executed in 2004 for an arson murder that happened in 1991. However, the Fire Marshall recently did a review of the fire which indicates that there was probably NO CRIME DONE - NO ARSON - NO MURDER! http://www.care2.com/c2c/share/detail/1234875

This is a Care2 story you should note now, please.

Read the full story here: http://www.star-telegram.com/804/story/1561425.html?storylink=omni_popular

If anyone cared about that man's life, wouldn't they have investigate the fire and made a determination BEFORE ARREST, much less before execution seeing that they had over 12 years?

Thomas Arthur, a Caucasian man in Alabama, has been begging for DNA tests for many years, finally got OK to do tests on the evidence used to convict him this year and tested negative! None of it matched his DNA. Trouble is that Arthur may have induced another prisoner to lie and say he killed the person Arthur is falsely convicted for killing. That guy's DNA test proved negative, too. They are both innocent.

Now Alabama may go ahead and kill poor Arthur for getting the guy to lie. Yes! An AL D.A. said this week that he is seeking the death warrant for Arthur despite the negative DNA evidence. (Every time I write about Arthur, the cyberstalkers delete the post or do some other censorship!)

QUESTION: IF CAUCASIAN MEN ARE TREATED THIS WAY, HOW MANY BLACK AND LATINO INNOCENT MEN ARE AWAITING EXECUTION? HERE IS ONE:

PHOTO - Darrell Lomax - California Death Row
http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/darrell-lomax

My name is Darrell Lomax and I have been wrongly incarcerated on death row at San Quentin State prison for over 14 years. I was convicted even though . . .

1. I passed a gunshot residu test
2. I have an alibi
3. the eye witness said it wasn't me
4. the fingerprints on the gun weren't mine
5. and it was found in someone else's car
6. the footprint wasn't mine
7. my witnesses were never called
8. and I couldn't afford a lawyer so I had to share a public defender with the man who made a deal to testify against me.
9. When the situation with the public defender was discovered he was replaced by a former DA who made no effort to find the witnesses for my defense.

A fact sheet regarding Lomax's case is available at this link (pdf-file): http://www.freedarrell.com/files/fact-sheet.pdf

POLL: Should folks have the right to post-conviction DNA tests?

http://www.votingcentral.com/VotingCentral/displayPoll.do?pollId=12205f3f-bf34-163d-b520-09c7ffffffad

Finally, let us not forget the innocent black men who are killed WITHOUT trial like my brother Larry - http://wrongfuldeathoflarryneal.com

This is why I say that Frank Horton was blessed to get out of that CCA facility alive. They transferred him to a state prison, and he is getting his meds and doing better now.

Noted thanks Mary. It is disgusting the way this poor man was treated. He should receive medical treatment instead of the abuse that he has suffered. Because it is a form of abuse. Will forward to friends.

INCARCERATING PEOPLE "FOR PROFIT" IS IN A WORD....WRONG!
Even if one does not ask or pretends not to see the rope and the flashing red flag draped around the philosophical question standing solemnly at attention in the middle of the room, it remains apparent that the mere presence of a private “for profit” driven prison business in our country undermines the U.S Constitution and subsequently the credibility of the American criminal justice system. In fact, until all private prisons in America have been abolished and outlawed, “the promise” of fairness and justice at every level of this country’s judicial system will remain unattainable. We must restore the principles and the vacant promise of our judicial system. Our government cannot continue to "job-out" its obligation and neglect its duty to the individuals confined in the correctional and rehabilitation facilities throughout this nation, nor can it ignore the will of the people that it was designed to serve and protect. There is urgent need for the good people of this country to emerge from the shadows of indifference, apathy, cynicism, fear, and those other dark places that we migrate to when we are overwhelmed by frustration and the loss of hope.
My hope is that you will support the National Public Service Council to Abolish Private Prisons (NPSCTAPP) with a show of solidarity by signing "The Single Voice Petition"

Mary Neal,
Sounds to me that you are reaching the people that would suppress these stories and hurting their case...to be allowed to kill whoever they want with no legal recourse to justice.
I have had a certifiable illness for twenty years now but I still drive, vote, have my freedom, get medication help, get counselling almost on demand...
But then I live in the UK where compassion drives our legal and health services.
I used to believe in the Land of The Free that was ruled by a just Leader of the Free World...but Nixon condoned illegal acts in his name and then lied about it, Clinton had affairs with his staff interns and the father and son Bush acted as mass murders stalking the entire world to kill at will and kidnap and imprison and torture who they wished...and now as you tell us the American legal system has many innocent people on death row for years and years (a whole life sentence ) before executing them without allowing them to present their evidence to courts...and you tell us about the horrid way that the mentally ill are treated worse than animals in the prisons.
Land of the Free...oh no I have changed my opinion of the USA in the last few years...there is nothing free in your Nazis run country.

But people like you campaign for justice, for compassion, for fairness, for treatment of mental illness...do these concepts even register to the authorities or are they trying to silence you?

Thankfully your stories get out through your friends that forward them onto us.

Mary never give up please for the sake of all those who you support...you have a tiger by his tail and he don't like it one bit...hold on for the ride...as did Rosa Parks, as did Martin Luther King...and they changed the face of your country...one day we will be saying Mary Neal in the same breath.

(and to the cyberstalkers I will say this...get a life and learn to be humane)

Kudos to both YOu Mary & for Suzybell as well.
You both are teachers to the rest of us that need to learn about this abuse of our brothers & sisters in a system that is suppose to protect both we the society, and those with mental illness.

this is one of the most horrible abuses of the mentally ill, and to claim that he should have filed a grievance? the judge is just as crooked as that private prison, he should be thrown in the hole, he should live in his own feces, he should be deprived of common decency and care, I am sick at heart to know that this can happen and the monsters who commit this crime against any human can get away with it. solitary confinement is one thing, but the family should always have a chance to see their loved one to be certain they are not being mistreated this way.

Thank you for CARING! Thank you Care2 News for giving us an avenue to air the horrible abuse to the least of these, His brethren. I appreciate all of you so very much. God called me to this work by allowing my unfortunate brother, Larry Neal, to be secretly arrested and murdered in Memphis/Shelby County Jail in 2003.

It was revealed to me by Larry's death and my family's subsequent denial of justice and open disclosure that there is a class of people who do not count in America - the slave class. Eligibility does not depend on race. Our organization, Assistance to the Incarcerated Mentally Ill, has mostly Caucasian members. Some of them have family members who suffer cruel incarceration for mental illness.

If you read the article at the VIDEO about Horton, you will note that the guard said there are others in the prison who were being treated almost as bad as Horton, but their abuse is kept secret. He said that guards are discouraged from telling investorgators the truth about inmates' living conditions.

Many of our private prisons are owned and operated by the same people who had to do with the torture of detainees in Guantanamo and other camps. American citizens, like my handicapped brother and Frank Horton, are regularly tortured and die behind bars.

When families file suit after such abuse and deaths, their lawsuits are never allowed to get to a jury. The Cochran Firm signed contract to represent us after Larry's secret arrest and murder, but the law firm actually worked against us to hold our case inactive while the statute of limitations was passing. When we sued the law firm for its fraud, the judge declared that NO COCHRAN FIRM OFFICE EXISTS IN GEORGIA to excuse dismissing our lawsuit. When we sued under the diversity rule in USDC, everyone pretended not to know that The Cochran Firm was open for business within sight of the court, and the USDC judge also denied us the right to a jury trial, dismissing our case just as Judge Nixon did in Frank Horton's case. Prisons are protected in their abuse. Too often, our elected officials and members of the judiciary are themselves prison profiteers, such as the Pennsylvania judges who were channeling children into private prisons in exchange for $2.6 million in kickbacks. Immorality and greed lead to many injustices in America and around the world.

If you CARE, please sign Justice for Mary Neal to end my stalking and terroristic acts to silence me.

Sign the petition to end private prisons. If the motivation for abuse is removed, the abuse will end.

Sign the petition for Justice for Jeremy Smith, son of Care2 member Gina Smith. Jeremy is in the hole in a Calif. prison right now for mental illness.

Sign the petition against the revolving door that prisons have become for people who suffer addictions and mental illness, which was presented by SuzyBell.

Take a poll to determine if you believe Thomas Arthur should be executed for telling a fibb. Yes, an Alabama man on death row who has proved his innocence this year is still facing execution. Why? Because he allegedly got another inmate to take the rap and the other inmate was also proved to be innocent by DNA tests. Since both Arthur and Gilbert are innocent, the State of Alabama decided to ignore Arthur's DNA tests proved he is not a murderer and kill him anyway. Here is the poll

http://www.votingcentral.com/VotingCentral/displayPoll.do?pollId=1236f80e-49c4-163d-b520-0cb9ffffffd4

If something happens with the link, just go to Mary Neal's Google Profile and get the link to help Thomas Arthur not be murdered for "perpetuating a fraud on the court" in order to escape WRONGFUL execution on July 31, 2008.

Thank you, David Gould, for recognizing all the hardship I endure to bring these human rights abuses before the public. I am censored, cyberstalked, subjected to in-person stalking, denied police services, etc. We often sang a song in church saying, "Here I am, Lord; send me." Frankly, I expected Him to require that I do something much easier and less dangerous than telling people TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WISH TO BE TREATED!

What kind of world is it that people are persecuted for saying, "Love ye one another"? Answer: It's the same kind it was 2,000 years ago. Many of our leaders are doing their best, I suppose. Nobody knows what others are facing. But there is much room for needed CHANGE.

Mary

Thanks, friends. Yes, Raffi, justice is hard to come by.

Please also help Jeremy Smith! He goes to court this week (from prison, where he is already serving eight years for merely hitting another mental patient in a mental hospital!) Jeremy Smith has been schizophrenic since childhood. Prosecutors want to LENGTHEN his prison term because he talked insolently to a California prison guard! They call it "terrorist threats." California is nearly broke from imprisoning so many people, yet the prosecutors insist on criminalizing mental illness. Prison profiteering is very expensive for taxpayers. The elderly in CA got IOUs instead of live checks this summer! PLEASE go online and get the petition for Jeremy Smith and endorse it. The poor young man LIVES IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT, NAKED. He is the sick son of a Care2 member - Gina.
