We hope many of you can make it to Atlanta for what promises to be an engaging and inspiring weekend in the fight for human rights! The 2009 conference theme is "Dignity: All Rights for All People." You'll leave with ideas for activism to take home.

Posted the news at Amnesty International and at Town Crier and AIMI. Sent 200 ecards to friends! This is short notice for some, but many Amnesty members live near or in Georgia. I hope to see you there.

I did not think this would be done to the Amnesty International ecards that announce the Southern Regional Conference, but the ecard copies I received in my email box arrived BLANK.

I assume that those persons who received the cards also got blanks.

There was only the intro line. All the text inside the cards and this Care2 News Network link were gone. It is just like it was with Thomas Arthur's DNA news and with Todd Willingham's petition for exoneration.

Part of the reason may be that I asked card addressees to please sign a petition to help Jeremy Smith. He is a young man who faces life in prison according to his mom (under a third-strike law). Jeremy Smith is said to have spoken insolently to a prison guard and was charged with making terrorist threats. Jeremy is a schizophrenic young man with an IQ of between 50 and 70. He is being criminalized for mental illness in California and lives in solitary confinement.

Amnesty International is one of the largest and most important human rights organizations there is. Members of the Care2 AI group number almost 40,000. I find it very disturbing that announcement of AI's conference was not permitted to reach Care2 members. The ecards I sent do not lead back to this news, and the introduction line is not long enough to add dates of the conference, etc.

Human rights suffers violent attacks.

THIS LINK BELOW SHOWS THE STORIES IN CARE2'S "NEWLY SUBMITTED." AT THIS TIME, THE AMNESTY ANNOUNCEMENT ARTICLE HAS BEEN PUBLISHED FOR 12 HOURS. IT SHOULD APPEAR ON THIS LINK:

http://www.care2.com/news/submitted/?page=5&display=recent

IT DOES NOT APPEAR. THIS WAS DONE TO PREVENT AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL'S ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE SOUTHERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE THIS WEEKEND IN ATLANTA FROM SHOWING. CENSORSHIP WAS EMPLOYED IN THE CARE2 ECARDS ANNOUNCING THIS ARTICLE (THEY WERE SENT EMPTY - NO NEWS OF THE CONFERENCE AND NO LINK TO CARE2 NEWS NETWORK) ALSO, THE ARTICLE IS MISSING IN THE CARE2 NEWS NETWORK ARTICLE LINEUP. THAT PREVENTED PEOPLE WHO KEEP AN EYE ON NEWLY SUBMITTED NEWS FROM NOTING THIS EVENT.
