Why do Republicans talk so much about prosperity, while at the same time always seeking ways to bury, the middle class, women, minorities and the poor in poverty? For who shall be the future wealth they always speak about? Maybe for themselves?

Thankfully, the Senate on Wednesday defeated a Republican-offered measure to drastically cut food stamps.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) excoriated the legislation.

“Hungry children didn’t cause the recession or the deficit, and cutting food stamps will not solve our debt problem,” he said. “But hungry children don’t have lobbyists, so programs like food stamps end up on the Republican chopping block.”

'SHOW SOME HEART" said, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ)

The latest census data shows nearly one in two Americans, or 150 million people, have fallen into poverty -- or could be classified as low income. "There seems to be a bipartisan consensus in Washington that the poor just don't matter." Tavis Smiley

In the last race for the White House, between Obama and McCain, three presidential debates; three presidential debates, the word "poor" or "poverty" does not come up one time.

Why is that?

These child poverty statistics are unacceptable, unforgivable and unforgettable. Please remember them in November.

With regard to those "safety nets" that Mitt Romney will have in place for the poorest among us: since the Republicans plan to continue their removal of threads from the strings that hold that net together, I hope that members of the 1% are standing below those nets when they can no longer bear the weight of the increasingly heavy load they have to bear.

Great quote from Sen. Frank Lautenberg! Thanks for posting it, Dandelion. And thank you, Frank, this excellent post!

From the outside it looks as if the Republican party is only interested in its rich friends. And embryos.

And don't forget, they also want to cut public education, which also put kids at a disadvantage because w/o proper education, a proper income won't happen.

We must not let the Republican LIE machine win this election. Please continue to educate, spread through social media and talk to your friends, relatives & neighbors about these issues so that they do not get a chance to completely sell us all into slavery.

Thank you for noting or commenting on the extremely important subject below. Please feel free to send the story link below to your Democratic Party political action committee; maybe they can use these appalling statistics against the heartless Republicans for the coming election in order to help protect the children of America!
